Tuning Procedure

Meter Mode

Use the VU-style meter in the display to tune your instrument.

  1. Connect your instrument or microphone to the INPUT jack. If using the built-in mic, do not connect anything to the INPUT jack and place the instrument close to the mic.
  2. Press the power switch. The tuner will automatically turn off after 20 minutes of inactivity to conserve battery.
  3. Press the [GUITAR/BASS] switch to select GUITAR or BASS mode.
  4. Play a single note on your instrument. The display will show the nearest note name. Tune your instrument to match the displayed note.
  5. Tune your instrument so the meter needle is centered and the center tuning guide indicator is lit (for A=440 Hz reference pitch). The left indicator lights if flat, the right if sharp. Each meter marking represents 2 Hz.

A quiet environment is recommended for precise tuning with the built-in mic.

Sound Mode

Tune while listening to a reference pitch.

  1. Set up as described in steps 2-3 of Meter mode.
  2. Press the [SOUND] switch to enter Sound mode.
  3. Press the [SOUND] switch until the desired reference note appears in the display.
  4. Listen to the reference pitch from the GA-1 and tune your instrument accordingly.

Flat Tuning

Tune to a pitch lowered by 1-5 semitones.

  1. In Meter or Sound mode, select the note you wish to flatten.
  2. Press the [FLAT] switch to select the number of semitones (1-5) to lower the note. The display will show ♭ to ♭♭♭♭♭.
  3. Tune your instrument.
