A line drawing of a Human Touch HT-121 massage chair, showing its reclined position with a headrest and armrests, and a foot and calf massager extended.
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for diagnosing and resolving customer issues with the HT-121 massage chair. Follow these steps carefully to ensure accurate diagnosis and appropriate repair actions.
Getting Started
- Turn the power switch on the back of the chair to the 'Off' position. Wait approximately five seconds, then turn it back 'On'.
- Wait 30 seconds for a system check to complete. Verify if the problem persists.
- If the problem continues, select the relevant issue from the table below:
To Troubleshoot This Issue: | Do The Following: |
---|---|
There is no movement on the chair when powered on. | The backrest massage mechanism and the foot and calf massager paddles should move upon powering on the chair. If they do not move, refer to the 'Power' section on page 2. |
My remote control is not working. | Refer to the 'Remote' section on page 3. |
My chair is not massaging properly. | For issues with Percussion, Compression, Kneading, or Rolling massage, replace the backrest. For issues with the Stretch feature, ensure the Stretch button is pressed and held until the chair beeps twice, as it takes several seconds to prepare for the Stretch function. |
My foot and calf massager is not working. | Refer to the 'Foot and Calf Massager' section on page 3. |
My chair won't recline/incline. | Press and hold the recline or incline button for at least five seconds. The actuator may take several seconds to activate. If this does not resolve the issue, the backrest actuator may not be working properly. Replace the backrest actuator. |
My chair won't swivel or the pedestal is broken. | Replace the chair. |
Power
Step 1: Check the power cord.
Ensure the power cord is securely connected to the power panel and that the cord is not damaged. If the power cord is damaged, replace the backrest cover. Note the serial number on the back of the backrest cover before replacement, as it will be lost after the cover is replaced.
Step 2: Check the wall outlet.
Plug a different device into the AC outlet used by the chair. If the device does not receive power, the outlet is likely faulty. Plug the chair into a different AC outlet to confirm it receives power.
Step 3: Replace the backrest if the chair still has no power.
A recent electrical surge might have damaged the main circuit board. Replace the backrest. Remember to note the serial number on the backrest cover before replacement.
Remote
If one or more remote control LEDs do not light when a button is pressed, but the function works:
The remote control may not be functioning correctly. Verify the remote control cable connection to the backrest cover is secure. If the issue persists, replace the remote.
If the remote control LED lights but the function does not work:
The problem is likely with the function itself, not the remote. If the malfunctioning function is in the backrest, replace the backrest. If it is in the foot and calf massager, replace the foot and calf massager.
Foot and Calf Massager
If the foot and calf massager hesitates when changing directions:
This is a normal occurrence due to gear shifting.
If the foot and calf massager will not deploy or retract:
- Press the foot and calf button on the remote control and wait 30 seconds.
- Perform one of the following actions:
- If the foot and calf massager does not activate and all related LEDs flash after 30 seconds, replace the backrest. (DEALER NOTE: Consider replacing the choke coil instead of the entire backrest assembly.)
- If a clicking sound is heard and the foot and calf massager actuator hums, the foot and calf massager bracket might be obstructing the chair seat. To correct this, remove the front foot and calf actuator hinge pin, allow the bracket to swing down to its proper position, and then reinstall the hinge pin. Refer to the Foot and Calf Massager Actuator repair instructions for details. If this procedure does not resolve the problem, replace the foot and calf massager actuator.
If the foot and calf massager massages only on one side:
Replace the foot and calf massager.
If the foot and calf massager paddles do not move and all related LEDs flash when the button is pressed:
- If the serial number is prior to A21061221, replace the backrest. (DEALER NOTE: Consider replacing the choke coil instead of the entire backrest assembly.)
- If the serial number is A21061221 or later, replace the foot and calf massager.
