Overview
This section provides a general overview of the Dash Cam's functionality and components.
How a Dash Cam Works
Camera: The 385GW features a front-facing camera. The 385GWX includes a front-facing camera and an optional rear-window camera to record around your vehicle.
Power Source: When connected to your vehicle using the Hardwire Kit, the 385 Dash Cam automatically turns on and starts recording when the engine starts. Refer to the Hardwire Instruction Sheet for details.
Recording: The camera continuously records video footage while you're driving. Video is typically recorded in short segments (a few minutes long) for easier file management.
Storage: Recorded video footage is stored on a memory card inserted into the dash cam, similar to an SD card in a digital camera.
Loop Recording: When the memory card fills up, the Dash Cam uses "loop recording" to overwrite the oldest footage with new recordings. This ensures continuous recording. Important files should be manually saved to prevent overwriting.
Event Recording: Built-in G-sensors detect sudden movements or impacts. In case of a collision or sudden braking, the Dash Cam automatically saves the surrounding footage as an important file for review.
Playback and Accessing Footage: View recorded footage using the 385 app (Nextbase Sync recommended), a USB-C cable (not supplied) to connect to a computer, or by using an SD card with a card reader. Footage can be reviewed, edited, or shared.
Nextbase Sync: Download the Nextbase App to manage your library, view videos, and receive update notifications.

Installation
Follow these steps to install your Dash Cam.
Notes Before Installing
- Do NOT mount the Dash Cam in front of the driver.
- Place the device securely against the windscreen and conceal the power cable under trim where possible.
- Ensure the power cable does not interfere with operating controls (steering wheel, pedals, gear levers).
- Do NOT mount in front of an airbag deployment zone or where it obscures mirrors.
- Clean the windscreen at the chosen location before fitting.
Step 1: Insert Battery
Remove the mount by sliding it towards the lens and lifting up. Remove the battery cover, insert the battery correctly oriented, and replace the cover.
(Diagram Description: Series of illustrations showing how to remove the mount, open the battery compartment, insert the battery, and close the compartment.)
Step 2: Insert SD Card
With the mount removed, slide open the SD card slot cover. Insert the SD card, ensuring correct orientation as shown in the graphic. Slide the cover closed once the card is inserted.
(Diagram Description: Illustrations showing how to open the SD card slot cover, insert the SD card, and close the cover.)
Step 3: Connect Power Cable
Connect the supplied Car Power cable to the Mini USB socket on the mount. Ensure the connector is oriented correctly with the curved edge facing down. Do not connect to the power supply until the Rear Cam is attached (if applicable).
(Diagram Description: Illustration showing the car power cable being plugged into the mount.)
Step 4: Re-attach the Mount
With the power cable connected, place the mount back onto the Dash Cam, aligning the pins with the holes. Slide the mount away from the lens until it clicks securely into place.
(Diagram Description: Illustrations showing the mount being re-attached to the dash cam.)
Step 5: Attach Rear Cam Cable (GWX only)
Plug the USB-C end of the connector cable into the port at the rear of the Dash Cam.
(Diagram Description: Illustration showing the USB-C cable connecting to the rear of the dash cam.)
Step 6: Route the Cable Through Vehicle's Interior Lining
Run the Rear Camera Connector Cable through the vehicle to the rear window, stowing it within the headlining using the Nextbase™ Cable Tidy Tool. The cable end should emerge at the rear window for connecting the Rear Window Camera.
(Diagram Description: An interior view of a car showing the path for routing the rear camera cable along the headliner.)
Hiding the Cable: Ensure the cable does not obstruct rear window view and has no kinks.
Step 7: Attach the Rear Cam to the Connector Cable
Once the cable is routed, attach the Rear Window Camera to the connector cable. Do not attach the camera to the window yet; ensure the cable can reach comfortably.
(Diagram Description: Illustration showing the rear camera being connected to the cable.)
Connect to Power
After connecting the Rear Camera, install the Hardwire Kit. The Dash Cam powers on with the vehicle. For setup, ensure the Dash Cam is powered on and use Live View for optimal placement.

FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)
- Video Image is blurred: Remove the protective lens cover, clean the lens, and ensure the windshield is clean and free of grease or dirt.
- I cannot insert the MicroSD card: MicroSD cards require delicate handling. Align the card with the diagram on the dash cam and insert until a slight spring resistance is felt. Push gently with a fingernail or coin until a small click is heard.
- I cannot remove the MicroSD card: Push the card in until a small click is heard, then release pressure. The card should spring out enough to be held. Use the edge of a coin if needed.
- Video Files cannot be played on my computer: Dash Cam video files are in .MP4 format. Ensure your PC has compatible playback software installed.
- Video File playback is jumpy: Format the SD card and try recording again. Use a Nextbase branded SD card up to 512GB. If the issue persists, try a different PC or copy files directly to the PC/Mac for playback.
- Video has no sound: Ensure the 'Audio' setting is turned ON in the Video Menu.
- Photograph is blurred: Ensure the Dash Cam is stationary while taking photos. Objects closer than 2 meters may appear blurred.
- I can only record a few minutes of video on my MicroSD card: Change the 'Video Length' setting to a smaller size. Increase the MicroSD card size (up to 512GB). Ensure 'Recording History' is set to 'Maximum' in the Setup Menu.
- My Dash Cam shuts down by itself after a while: This could be due to a flat battery, no power to the dash cam, the Auto Power Off period being triggered, or Parking Mode being active with no vehicle movement detected for 5 minutes.
- No power to my Dash Cam but it works upon my computer: Inspect the fuse in the Car Power Cable plug. If blown, inspect the power cable for damage. Replace the fuse with one of the correct size.
- I can't delete files on my SD card within the Dash Cam: Check if the files are 'protected'. If so, follow instructions to 'un-protect' them.
- The screen blanks after a few minutes upon my Dash Cam: Remove the protective lens cover, clean the lens, and ensure the windshield is clean and free of grease or dirt.
- The battery will not charge: If Parking Mode is frequently used while the ignition is off, it may drain the battery. Charge the dash cam indoors using a mains charger for 3 hours. A fully charged battery should provide 10-15 minutes of recording. If it fails in less than 5 minutes, the battery may need replacement. Contact support.
- Downloading files from www.nextbase.com using Google Chrome results in a Malicious Software message: This message may appear when downloading software. Temporarily disable Chrome's malicious software protection in settings to download and install the playback software, then re-enable it.
- My Camera feels warm when it is operating: It is normal for the camera to feel warm during typical use, especially when recording high-definition video or communicating via Wi-Fi.
- The Mount will not stay in place: Ensure the red protective cover (plastic film) is removed from the mount pad. Make sure the glass is smooth and clean. Press the mount firmly to the glass, ensuring 100% contact (indicated by the pad turning a darker color). If the pad loses stickiness, use a spare pad.
- Unresolved Issues: Reset the Dash Cam to default settings via the Setup Menu. If the problem persists, contact the UK helpline (02920) 866429 or your local support centre at www.nextbase.com, or email support@nextbase.com.
