La Crosse Technology Wireless Weather Station

Model Number: S81120

This document provides instructions for setting up and operating the La Crosse Technology Wireless Weather Station with Temperature, Wind, and Humidity.

BASICS

Initial Setup

Power Up

The weather station requires power via a 5V AC adapter and can optionally use 2 AA batteries for backup.

Breeze Sensor Setup:

• Locate the Breeze Sensor (Model No. TX145WSDTH).
• Remove the insulation tab from the battery compartment.
• Ensure the power switch on the sensor is turned ON.

Station Setup:

• Insert the 5V Power Adapter into an outlet.
• Plug the adapter into the Power Jack on the back of the station.
• Insert 2 AA batteries for backup (optional).

Note: It may take up to 10 minutes for sensor data to appear on the station's screen.

Station Settings

When the station is first powered on, it will enter the Settings Menu. To re-enter the Settings Menu after initial setup, hold the SET button.

The Settings Menu order is:

• Greeting Language
• 12/24 Hour Time
• Hour
• Minutes
• Year
• Month
• Date
• Month/Date or Date/Month Order
• Fahrenheit/Celsius
• Wind Speed Units (MPH or KMH)
• Wind Direction (Letters or Degrees)
• Rain Units (IN or MM) *

Use the [+] and [-] buttons on the side of the station to adjust values.

Press the SET button to confirm a selection and move to the next step.

You can exit the Settings Menu at any time by pressing the LIGHT button.

Notes: Weekday sets automatically after year, month, and date settings. Rainfall data requires a compatible rain sensor.

Buttons

The station has several buttons for operation:

1. LIGHT: Press to adjust backlight. Hold to enter Auto-Dim Settings.
2. WIND: Press to view Wind Speed History. Hold MINUS to reset history.
3. RAIN*: Press to view rain history. Hold RAIN to search for Rain sensor. Hold RAIN and SET together to return to Time display.
4. SET: Hold to enter Settings Menu. Press to toggle weekday/month-date-year display.
5. PLUS (+): Press to toggle indoor/outdoor readings. Use to adjust values in Settings Menu.
6. MINUS (-): Hold to reset history readings. Use to adjust values in Settings Menu. Hold to delete add-on TH sensor.
7. TEMP: Press to view HI/LO temperature and humidity records. Hold to search for add-on TH sensor.
8. ALERTS: Hold to enter Alerts Settings. Use [+/-] to activate alerts and ALERTS to confirm.

*Rainfall data requires a compatible rain sensor. **Add-On Temperature & Humidity data requires a separate TH sensor.

LCD Display

Adjusting LCD Display Brightness:

Press the LIGHT button to cycle through 4 brightness levels, plus an off option.

Auto-Dim Settings:

Program your display to automatically dim during preselected times.

1. Hold the LIGHT button to enter the Auto-Dim Settings Menu.
2. Press [+/-] to turn the Auto-Dim feature on or off. Press LIGHT to confirm.
3. Press [+/-] to adjust the starting hour. Press LIGHT to confirm.
4. Press [+/-] to adjust the stopping hour. Press LIGHT to confirm and exit.

The [Auto-Dim Icon] will appear on the LCD when Auto-Dim is active.

Custom Calendar Display:

Press the SET button to select either the Full Weekday or Month/Date/Year display.

Positioning the Breeze Sensor

For Accurate Measurements:

• Mount the Breeze Sensor horizontally and level.
• Ensure wind cups are on top.
• The sensor should be the tallest object in the area to avoid reduced wind speed readings.
• Mount with the solar panel facing South for optimal performance.
• Ensure all screws on the mounting bracket, wind cups, wind vane, and battery compartment are securely fastened.
• Ensure the knob on the mounting bracket is secure.

Avoid areas that may obstruct wind gusts, such as eaves, rooflines, or trees [Cross Mark Icon].

The Breeze Sensor should be the tallest object in the area; an unobstructed rooftop is ideal [Checkmark Icon].

The sensor can be mounted on a pole away from objects that may cause inaccurate readings [Checkmark Icon].

WIND

Viewing Your Wind Data

The wind display includes:

1. COMPASS ROSE: Displays cardinal direction with animated arrows (16 directions total).
2. TOP WIND SPEED: The highest wind speed in the past 60 minutes.
3. WIND DIRECTION: Cardinal points (letters) or degrees.
4. [Low Battery Icon]: Indicates if the sensor battery needs replacement.
5. [Wind Speed Alert Icon]: Appears if a wind speed alert is set and active.
6. "NOW" WIND SPEED: The wind speed in the past 31 seconds.
7. WIND SPEED TREND INDICATOR: Shows wind speed trends over the past 60 minutes.
8. [Reception Indicator]: Indicates if the station is receiving data from the sensor.

Wind Speed Records & Alerts

Viewing Wind Speed Records:

Press the WIND button to cycle through wind speed records with time and date stamps. Records include past 24 hours, 7 days, 1 month, and 1 year.

Setting the Wind Speed Alert:

1. Hold the ALERTS button to enter the Alert Settings Menu.
2. Use the [+/-] buttons to turn alerts on/off and adjust alert values. Press ALERTS to confirm.
3. Your wind speed alert is active when the [Wind Speed Alert Icon] is on.

Activate/Deactivate Wind Speed Alert:

The [Wind Speed Alert Icon] will appear in the compass rose section of the LCD when the alert is active.

Important Notes:

• Alerts are defaulted to be off.
• When the armed alert value is reached, the station will beep and the icon will flash. Press any button to stop the alert sound.
• The Alert Icon will remain flashing until conditions are no longer within the set alert range.

TEMPERATURE & HUMIDITY

Viewing Your Temperature & Humidity Data

Indoor/Outdoor Readings:

Press the [PLUS (+)] button until the [Cycle Mode Icon] appears to toggle between indoor and outdoor data, or have it alternate automatically.

1. OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE: Current outdoor temperature.
2. [TH Sensor Icon]: Appears if readings are provided by an add-on TH sensor.
3. Cycle Mode Icon: Indicates if indoor/outdoor data is set to cycle.
4. HI/LO OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE ALERTS: Appears if a temperature alert is set and active.
5. OUTDOOR HUMIDITY: Current outdoor humidity.
6. HI/LO OUTDOOR HUMIDITY ALERTS: Appears if a humidity alert is set and active.
7. "FEELS LIKE" TEMPERATURE: Based on current outdoor temperature and wind speed (heat index & wind chill).

*An add-on Thermo-Hygro (TH) Sensor must be connected to view readings separate from your Breeze Sensor.

"Feels Like" Temperature:

This reading indicates either Wind Chill or Heat Index values:

• Wind Chill: When temperature is below 50°F and there is 5+ MPH sustained wind speed.
• Heat Index: When temperature is above 80°F.
• Current Temperature: When the temperature is between 41°F and 79°F, the reading remains the same as the outdoor value regardless of humidity or wind speed.

Temperature & Humidity Records and Alerts

Viewing Records:

Press the TEMP button to cycle through indoor/outdoor temperature & humidity records with time and date stamps.

Records Viewing Order:

• Outdoor High Temperature
• Outdoor Low Temperature
• Outdoor High Humidity
• Outdoor Low Humidity
• Indoor High Temperature
• Indoor Low Temperature
• Indoor High Humidity
• Indoor Low Humidity
• "Feels Like" High Temperature
• "Feels Like" Low Temperature
• Dew Point

Resetting Individual Temperature and Records:

1. Press the TEMP button to view the individual temperature & humidity value you wish to reset.
2. Hold the [MINUS (-)] button.
3. The reading is now reset to your current temperature or humidity value.

Setting the Temp. & Humidity Alerts:

1. Hold the ALERTS button to enter the Alert Settings Menu.
2. Use the [+/-] buttons to turn alerts on/off and adjust specific alert values. Press the ALERTS button to confirm.
3. Your alert is active when the [High Alert Icon] (HI alert) and/or [Low Alert Icon] (LO alert) is on.

Important Notes:

• The alert is defaulted to be off.
• When the armed alert value is reached, the station will beep and the icon will flash. Press any button to stop the alert sound.
• The Alert Icon will remain flashing until the current conditions are no longer within the set alert range.

EXTRA SENSORS

Add-On Temperature & Humidity Sensor

If temperature & humidity readings are not as desired from your Breeze Sensor, you can add a separate Thermo-Hygro (TH) Sensor.

Search for compatible sensors using the station's model number (S81120).

Add-On Sensor TH Set Up:

1. Insert 2 “AA” Batteries into the sensor battery compartment.
2. Press the [MINUS (-)] button on the station. The outdoor temperature/humidity readings will flash.
3. Hold the [MINUS (-)] button to delete readings from the Breeze Sensor. The station will begin searching for the new TH Sensor.
4. Press the TX button inside the sensor battery compartment to transmit a signal. Once connected, the [TH Sensor Icon] will appear on the LCD.

Note: Your station will only show temperature/humidity readings from one sensor. If readings are lost, your station may pick up readings from the other sensor automatically.

Lost Connection

• If the sensor loses connection, the station will show NO after 30 minutes.
• The [Reception Indicator] will disappear from the LCD, and the station will search for up to 3 minutes every hour.
• Dashes will show while searching, and the [Reception Indicator] icon will flash for up to 3 minutes or until the sensor is connected.
• If no signal is received, the [Reception Indicator] icon will disappear, and NO will show in the sensor area.

Low Battery

The [Low Battery Icon] will appear when the sensor batteries need replacement.

Add-On Rain Sensor

This station is also compatible with an add-on rain sensor.

Search for compatible rain sensors using the station's model number (S81120).

Add-On Rain Sensor Set Up:

1. Insert 2 “AA” Batteries into the sensor battery compartment.
2. Hold the RAIN button on the station. NO will appear on the LCD. Hold the RAIN button again to search for the rain sensor.
3. Allow up to 5 minutes for the station to receive the signal.

Viewing Your Rain Data: Your rain data will appear in the time section of the LCD. Hold the RAIN button to view rain data. To return to the time display, hold the RAIN and SET buttons together.

Rainfall Records

When viewing rain data, press the RAIN button to view different rainfall records:

• 1 HOUR: Represents the past hour of rainfall data.
• 24 HOURS: Accumulated total from the last 24 hours. Updates every hour.
• 7 DAYS: Running total from the last 7 consecutive 24-hour rainfall readings. Updates daily at midnight.
• 1 MONTH: Accumulated total defined by the calendar month. Press [PLUS (+)] to view past 11 individual monthly totals.
• 1 YEAR: Current month plus the past 11 monthly totals.
• TOTAL: Total rainfall since the rain sensor was setup or last reset.

Resetting Individual Rainfall Records:

1. Press the RAIN button to view the individual rain records you wish to reset.
2. Hold the [MINUS (-)] button until dashes appear on the LCD.

*The Breeze Sensor operates accurately down to -40°F. The solar panel needs sunlight to maintain the super capacitor charge. Transmission interval may be reduced in low sunlight/cold to extend operation time.

**Using a non-rechargeable coin cell battery can damage the sensor. Ensure replacement batteries are ML2032 Rechargeable.

Factory Reset

If you're still experiencing issues, press and hold the LIGHT and ALERTS buttons down together until the display beeps. Note: All alerts and history records will be reset as well.
