Descaling
From time to time, depending on the nature of your water supply, boiled scale deposit is naturally formed and can be found mostly adhered to the heating element, thus reducing the heating efficiency. The amount of boiled scale deposited and subsequently the need to clean or descale largely depends on the water hardness in your area and the frequency with which the kettle is used. Boiled scale is not harmful to your health. But if poured into your beverage, it can give a powdery taste to your drink. Therefore, the kettle should be descaled periodically as indicated below.
Descale kettle regularly:
- With normal use: at least twice a year
- Fill the kettle up to "max" with a mixture of ordinary vinegar and water, with the proportion being 1:2. Switch on and wait for the appliance to switch off automatically.
- Let the mixture remain inside the kettle overnight.
- Discard the mixture the next morning.
- Fill the kettle with clean water up to the "max" mark and boil again.
- Discard the boiled water to remove any remaining scale and vinegar.
- Rinse the filter and inside of the kettle with clean water.
- Do not touch the filter when the water is hot.
- To prevent much scale in the filter, use a wet cloth with soap or detergent to wipe the filter. Do not use corrosive detergent.
New bought kettles have a kind of light smell which is caused by mould opening during manufacturing. It is normal and not harmful to your health.
