Copyright

Recording and playback of any material may require consent. For further information, refer to the Copyright Act 1956, Dramatic and Musical Performers Act 1958, Performers Protection Acts 1963 and 1972, and any subsequent statutory enactments and orders.

Location Recommendations

To ensure long-lasting use, do not locate the PM6002 where it is:

  • Exposed to direct sunlight.
  • Near sources of heat such as heaters.
  • In highly humid or poorly ventilated areas.
  • Dusty.
  • Subjected to mechanical vibrations.
  • On wobbly, inclined, or otherwise unstable surfaces.
  • Where radiated heat is blocked, such as in cramped audio racks.

Clearance Requirements

Diagram showing required clearance around the Marantz PM6002 unit. A minimum of 0.2 meters (or more) is recommended on the left, right, above, and rear sides of the unit to ensure proper heat radiation.

Object Placement

Keep objects off the PM6002. Blocking the vents can result in accident and damage. ⚠️

Hot Spots Warning

Do not touch hot spots during and immediately after use. During and immediately after use, the PM6002 is hot in areas other than the controls and rear panel connection jacks. Do not touch hot spots, and especially the top panel. Contact with hot areas can cause burns. ⚠️

Remote Controller Usage

Operate the unit with the remote controller within the range shown below.

Diagram illustrating the steps for loading batteries into the remote controller: 1. Remove the battery cover. 2. Insert batteries with correct +/- orientation. 3. Close the battery cover until it clicks shut.Diagram showing the operatable range of the remote controller. The unit should be operated from approximately 5 meters away, within a 60-degree angle. ?

Cautions on Handling Batteries:

  • Misuse of batteries can result in electrolyte leakage, rupturing, or corrosion.
  • Remove batteries if the unit will not be used for a prolonged period (a month or more).
  • Do not use an old battery with a new one.
  • Ensure batteries are inserted with correct +/- orientation.
  • Do not use different types of batteries together.
  • If electrolyte leaks, wipe the compartment clean before inserting new batteries.
  • Dispose of used batteries according to local regulations.

Remote Controller Cautions:

  • Avoid direct sunlight, inverter fluorescent light, or other strong light sources shining on the infrared receptor window, as this may disable operation.
  • Be aware that operating the remote controller might accidentally operate other infrared-controlled devices.
  • Ensure there is no obstruction between the controller and the player's infrared receptor window.
  • Do not place objects on top of the remote controller, as this may cause buttons to be held down and drain the batteries.

Wiring Speaker Cable

Proper speaker wiring is crucial for performance and safety.

  • Be careful not to short circuit speaker cables.
  • Peel approximately 1 cm of cable coating, then twist the conductors.
  • Connect the Right channel speaker to the R terminals and the Left channel speaker to the L terminals.
  • Ensure correct polarity: connect positive (+) terminals to positive (+) and negative (-) to negative (-).

Speaker System Requirements:

  • If using 1 set of speakers, total impedance must be 4 ohms or more.
  • If using 2 sets of speakers, total impedance must be 8 ohms or more.
  • Recommended speaker impedance is 8-16 ohms. Connecting speakers with less than 8 ohms may activate protection circuitry.

Basic Operation

Operation Procedures

To Play an Analog Disc:

  1. Set INPUT SELECTOR to PHONO.
  2. Play the disc on the turntable.
  3. Adjust volume with VOLUME control and tone with BASS/TREBLE controls.

Notes:

  • Set VOLUME to minimum before placing the stylus or replacing the cartridge.
  • Avoid shock or vibration during play.
  • Ensure adequate space to prevent howling if the turntable is too close to speakers.
  • Do not switch power OFF while the stylus is on the disc.

To Listen to FM/AM Broadcasts:

  1. Set INPUT SELECTOR to TUNER.
  2. Tune to the desired station.
  3. Adjust volume and tone controls.

To Play a CD:

  1. Set INPUT SELECTOR to CD.
  2. Play the CD player.
  3. Adjust volume and tone controls.

To Play a DVD or Component Connected to AUX/DVD Jacks:

  1. Set INPUT SELECTOR to AUX/DVD.
  2. Play the connected component.
  3. Adjust volume and tone controls.

Recorder Operation

Playback:

  1. Set INPUT SELECTOR to RECORDER 1 (CD-R) or RECORDER 2 (MD/TAPE).
  2. Play a prerecorded disc or tape on the recorder.
  3. Adjust volume and tone controls.

Recording:

  1. Set the REC SELECTOR switch to the desired program source.
  2. Play the program source.
  3. Operate the recorder(s) to record the playback sound.

Using the REC SELECTOR Switch:

  • OFF: No signal output at REC OUT jacks; signal path is shortened.
  • SOURCE: Records the selected input source.
  • COPY: Allows copying between RECORDER 1 and RECORDER 2, or monitoring the selected source.

Troubleshooting

If the unit malfunctions, check the following before contacting service personnel. Many issues are due to simple operational mistakes.

  • Amplifier does not operate, indicators do not light: Check power cord connection.
  • Indicators light, but amplifier does not operate: Check SELECTOR, SPEAKER switches, and VOLUME control settings.
  • Sound heard from only one speaker: Check BALANCE control. If the issue persists after swapping speaker cords, check the cord or speaker itself.
  • Hum noise when playing turntable: Check PHONO jack connection and turntable grounding wire. Try removing the grounding wire if already connected. Ensure the phono cartridge is securely attached. Try inverting the power cord plug orientation.
  • Remote control operation not possible: Ensure the remote transmitter is pointed correctly at the sensor, with no obstructions. Check battery level. Avoid strong ambient light on the sensor. Ensure no RCA cord is connected to the "REMOTE CONTROL OUT" jack.

Others

Cleaning of Equipment External Surfaces

To maintain the unit's finish:

  • Wipe external surfaces with a soft, lint-free cloth.
  • For heavy soiling, use a damp cloth slightly moistened with a diluted mild detergent solution (1 part detergent to 6 parts water).
  • Dry with a dry cloth.
  • Avoid using scouring pads, steel wool, harsh chemicals, alcohol, thinners, benzine, or insecticide, as these can damage the finish.

Repairs

Only qualified service technicians should service the equipment. After the warranty period expires, repairs are available for a charge. For service, contact your dealer or Marantz Authorized Service Station. Include model and serial number, and a detailed description of the issue when writing.
