AP4000-1 Overview

The AP4000-1 is a high-performance 802.11ax Wi-Fi 6E indoor access point designed for high-density environments. It supports 6 GHz, 5 GHz, and 2.4 GHz bands and IEEE 802.11ax OFDMA multi-user access. Installation options include ceiling rails, non-standard ceilings, walls, junction boxes, or beams.

Key Features:

  • One multicolor LED status light (see "Status LED Activity Description")
  • One light sensor at the top
  • Two Ethernet ports (Eth0 and Eth1) with auto-negotiation for half/full-duplex. Eth0 supports 100/1000/2500 Mbps and PoE 802.3at. Eth1 supports 10/100/1000 Mbps. Both ports auto-sense straight-through and crossover Cat5e or better cables. Power is supplied via Eth0 from 802.3at compatible PSE.
  • One USB port for connecting USB-based beacons (e.g., iBeacon) and IoT devices. Access via removing a protective cover screw.
  • One micro USB console port for serial management connections.
  • One reset button.
  • One Kensington lock slot for physical security.

Status LED Activity Description

The AP4000-1 features a single status light on top of the chassis, indicating operational states:

  • Dark: Power is off.
  • Steady white: Successfully established a Control And Provisioning of Wireless Access Points (CAPWAP) connection to ExtremeCloud IQ and operating normally.
  • Slow-blinking white: CAPWAP connection to ExtremeCloud IQ established, but operating on 802.3af power instead of 802.3at.
  • Steady amber: Initializing, rebooting, or operating without a CAPWAP connection.
  • Slow-blinking amber: No CAPWAP connection to ExtremeCloud IQ, and operating on 802.3af power instead of 802.3at.
  • Fast-blinking amber: Upgrading IQ Engine firmware.

Micro USB Console Port

The console port allows for a serial connection between your management system and the access point. A VT100 emulation program (e.g., Tera Term Pro, Hilgraeve HyperTerminal) is required on the management station.

Installation

Electrical Hazard: Only qualified personnel must perform installation procedures.

Positioning the Access Point

Align the red dot on the back of the access point with the red dot on the mounting bracket for correct positioning during installation.

Install the Access Point on a Standard Ceiling Rail

The AP4000-1 includes a mounting bracket for standard 15/16 in. dropped ceiling grids. For non-standard installations, consult the relevant accessories guide.

Steps:

  1. Remove ceiling tiles.
  2. Align the accessory on the ceiling rail with its metal hinges nearly parallel to the rail sides.
  3. Rotate the accessory clockwise until the metal hinges hook onto the rail edge and the white tabs click into place. (Refer to Figure 2 for AH-ACC-BKT-AX-TB bracket details and Table 3 for bracket parts).
  4. Attach the Ethernet port cap to the access point's Ethernet port.
  5. Align the red dot on the access point with the bracket's red dot. The accessory's circular tip fits into the back of the access point.
  6. Press and rotate the access point 1/8th turn clockwise until it clicks securely onto the accessory. (Refer to Figure 3 for ceiling installation view).
  7. Attach the Cat6 RJ45 cable to the Eth0 or Eth1 port.
  8. If desired, place the cable cover over the Ethernet cable for a cleaner look.
  9. Replace the ceiling tiles.

Install the Access Point on a Non-Standard Ceiling Grid or a Wall

Refer to the 802.11ax and Cloud Access Points Accessories Guide for detailed instructions. The AP4000-1 supports various mounting accessories for different ceiling types and wall installations:

Note: The ACC-BKT-AX-JB is the default for wall installation. The AH-ACC-BKT-AX-WL is for users with existing -WL brackets.

Lock the Access Point after Installation

Secure the access point using the Kensington lock slot to prevent removal from the mounting accessory.

The access points feature internal antennas:

  • 2 Dual-band 2.4G/5G antennas
  • 2 6G band antennas
  • 2 scanning 2.4G/5G/6G antennas

Safety Guidelines

Qualified Personnel:

Electrical Hazard: Installation procedures must be performed by qualified personnel. Qualified persons are authorized to commission grounding devices, systems, and circuits according to safety practices and standards, understanding the risks involved with installing electrical equipment.

Federal Communication Commission (FCC) Interference Statement

FCC regulations restrict this device to indoor use only. It has been tested and complies with Class B digital device limits (Part 15 of FCC Rules) for reasonable protection against harmful interference in residential installations. If interference occurs, users are advised to reorient/relocate the antenna, increase separation, connect to a different circuit, or consult a technician.

Device Restriction: Restricted for indoor use only. Outdoor operation violates 47 U.S.C. 301 and may result in legal penalties. Operation is prohibited on oil platforms, cars, trains, boats, and aircraft (except large aircraft above 10,000 ft). Operation in the 5.925-7.125 GHz band is prohibited for control of unmanned aircraft systems.

FCC Radiation Exposure Statement: Complies with FCC radiation exposure limits for uncontrolled environments. Install and operate with a minimum distance of 44 cm between the radiator and your body.

Caution: Unauthorized modifications may void the user's authority to operate the equipment.

Japan Indoor Use Statement

For Japan, the AP4000-1 is restricted to indoor use in the 5150-5350 MHz band.

European Union (EU) Radiation Warning Statement

Brazil:

This product is homologated by ANATEL according to Resolution No. 242/2000 and meets technical requirements. It does not have protection against harmful interference and must not cause interference to authorized systems. Consult ANATEL's website (www.anatel.gov.br) for more information.

Mexico Compliance Statement:

Operation is subject to two conditions: 1) the equipment/device may not cause harmful interference, and 2) it must accept any interference received, including undesired operation.

UK Statement and CE Statement

Indoor Use Restriction: For indoor use only.

IC Compliance: Complies with ISED's licence-exempt RSSs. Operation is subject to two conditions: no harmful interference, and acceptance of received interference. This radio transmitter [IC: 4141B-AP4000] is approved by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada for use with specified antenna types and maximum gain. Use of other antenna types with higher gain is prohibited.

IC Radiation Exposure Statement: Complies with IC RSS-102 radiation exposure limits for uncontrolled environments. Install and operate with a minimum distance of 27 cm between the radiator and your body.

Caution: Devices operating in the 5150-5250 MHz band are for indoor use only to reduce potential interference to mobile satellite systems.
