Introduction
Fiber optic network deployment is increasingly vital for modern broadband communication, supporting cloud applications and high-demand multimedia streaming. Fiber optic transmission offers superior advantages over copper wire, including lower attenuation and interference. While fiber optic technology is generally more expensive and complex to deploy than copper, it is essential for core networks in telecommunications, campuses, and hospitals, as well as for fiber switches, media conversion, and GEPON passive optic devices. PLANET provides various methods for efficient fiber connectivity network deployment.
Through decades of experience, PLANET has developed comprehensive fiber connectivity solutions to help ISPs and telecoms build robust broadband services and achieve fast edge connectivity. PLANET offers a wide array of fiber-related products suitable for commercial, carrier-grade, and industrial environments, ensuring stable networking across a broad temperature range. A notable example of PLANET's solution was its use in the 2010 Chile miners' rescue mission, providing vital visual and voice communication.
Metro Fiber Switches
PLANET's Optical Fiber Ethernet technology offers high flexibility, extendibility, and ease of installation, with data exchange speeds up to 10Gbps and Gigabit Optical Fiber distances up to 120km. PLANET provides Point-to-Multi Point Managed Fiber Switches and CPE for Metro Ethernet applications. These switches feature advanced management technologies like IPv6/IPv4 Dual-Stack, Q-in-Q VLAN, Multicast, QoS, Security, and High Availability, supporting Optical Ethernet up to 10Gbps for high-bandwidth multimedia needs. PLANET's Metro Ethernet Switch Solution is ideal for connecting enterprises, communities, and campuses in metropolitan areas to service provider backbone networks.
Advantages of Metro Ethernet:
- Long distance and superior transmission quality for Optical Ethernet (up to 120km).
- Lower installation costs for Gigabit and 10Gigabit Ethernet.
- Simplified and unified protocol architecture from LAN to MAN.
- Flexible bandwidth management tailored to customer demands.
- Meets the requirements for high-bandwidth triple-play services.

Metro Core Multi-Layer IPV6 / IPV4 Routing Switches:
PLANET offers Chassis Switches (e.g., XGS3-42000R) and Stackable/Multi-Layer Switches (e.g., XGS3-24242, SGS-6340 series) with detailed specifications for port capacity, hardware features, layer 3/2 functions, security, and management. These switches support advanced routing protocols, VLANs, QoS, and robust security features.
Industrial Fiber Switches / Media Converters
PLANET Industrial Ethernet Solutions provide high reliability and security for continuous industrial operation in harsh environments. They upgrade traditional factory-floor networks to a cost-effective, high-performance, and scalable architecture. PLANET Industrial Ethernet switches and converters utilize 100/1000 Fiber technology for reliable, long-reach data transmission, offering products for information, control, and device levels.
Fiber-Optic Link Capability:
The SFP slots are compatible with 100BASE-FX or 1000BASE-SX/LX/WDM transceivers, enabling extended Gigabit Ethernet distances from 550 meters (multi-mode fiber) up to 120 kilometers (single-mode or WDM fiber).

PLANET offers Managed/PoE Switches (e.g., IGS-10080MFT, WGS-4215 series) and Industrial Media Converters (e.g., IFT-802T, IGT-1205AT series) with detailed specifications for hardware, power, environment, and management features.
Media Converters
Media conversion is a cost-effective solution for extending fiber networking rapidly and overcoming distance limitations between Ethernet and LANs. PLANET's media converter chassis, supporting up to 16 converters, can extend wiring distances from 2 to 120 kilometers. These solutions are ideal for FTTH and FTTC deployments, offering managed chassis and converters with hot-plug capabilities for easy management and monitoring.
Managed Media Converter Chassis:
The MC-1610MR series is designed for telecom and corporate applications requiring centralized management of fiber links. It allows remote monitoring and configuration via web browser or CLI, providing status and statistics for all connected converters.
Standard Media Converter Chassis:
The MC-1500 series offers high-density, flexible, and cost-effective media conversion with 15 slots. It supports various PLANET converters (Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, VDSL2) and features hot-swappable bays for easy installation and maintenance. The chassis are available in different models (MC-700, MC-1500, MC-1500R, MC-1500R48) with varying slot counts and power options.
Various types of media converters are detailed, including Smart Gigabit Ethernet Media Converters (GST series), Smart Fast Ethernet Media Converters (FST series), PoE Gigabit/Fast Ethernet Media Converters (GTP/FTP series), Video over Fiber Media Converters (VF series), and Serial over Fast Ethernet Media Converters (ICS series), each with specific port configurations, optical interfaces, distances, and operating parameters.
Passive Optical Network - GEPON
Passive Optical Network (PON) technology is a leading NGN technology for high-bandwidth demands in HDTV, IPTV, VoIP, and multimedia applications. PON supports Point-to-Multi-Point applications, offering cost reduction by sharing equipment and fiber at the CO, and easier maintenance compared to active equipment.
PLANET's GEPON OLT and ONU solutions provide competitive advantages, including long-term fiber infrastructure life, lower operating costs, support for up to 20km distances, easy installation, and greater bandwidth. These solutions are ideal for Triple Play or Surveillance applications, enabling high-speed internet, VoIP, and IP surveillance over a point-to-multipoint FTTx network.
