Intended Use
This appliance is designed for preparing coffee-based drinks from ground coffee beans or for dispensing hot water. Any other use is considered improper and may lead to hazards. It is intended for domestic and similar applications, such as in staff kitchens, offices, hotels, and residential premises. It is not suitable for use in restaurants, bars, or cafeterias.
General Safety Warnings
- Never immerse the appliance, power cord, or plug in water or any other liquid.
- Do not operate the appliance if the power cord or plug is damaged, or if the appliance has been dropped or damaged.
- Repairs should only be carried out by qualified technicians or authorized service centers.
- Keep the power cord away from hot surfaces and sharp edges.
- Ensure the power outlet is easily accessible for immediate disconnection.
- Never attempt to repair the appliance yourself.
- Keep packaging materials out of reach of children.
- In case of fire, do not use water; extinguish the appliance, unplug it, and cover the flames with a fire blanket.
- Always unplug the appliance when not in use, unattended, or in case of malfunction.
- Unplug the appliance before assembling or disassembling components.
- Turn off and unplug the appliance before removing accessories or accessing internal parts.
- Do not use the appliance in combination with parts or accessories from other manufacturers.

- Allow the machine to cool down before cleaning.
- Maintain a minimum clearance of 3 cm around the sides and back of the machine, and 15 cm above.
- Do not touch hot surfaces after use.
- Do not place the appliance near sinks or taps.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Regular cleaning is essential for maintaining the quality of your coffee and the proper functioning of the machine.
- Always unplug the appliance and allow it to cool before cleaning.
- Do not use steam jets for cleaning.
- Avoid cleaning products containing chlorine, ammonia, or bleach on metal parts.
- Do not use abrasive or corrosive cleaners, or metallic scouring pads.
- Do not use rough, abrasive materials, or sharp metallic scrapers.
- The drip tray (24) and the coffee grounds container (25) can be washed in the dishwasher.
- Clean the filter holder (20) and filters (30a, 30b, 31a, 31b) by rinsing them under running water.
- Clean the steam wand (22) immediately after use.
- Clean the water tank (7) and bean hopper (3) regularly.
Descaling
Descaling is important to maintain coffee taste and prevent damage to the machine. The machine will indicate when descaling is necessary.
- Follow the descaling procedure as described in the manual.
- The descaling cycle may take approximately 40 minutes, including rinsing.
- Use only Smeg-recommended descaling products.
- The descaler contains acids that can irritate skin and eyes. Follow safety instructions on the packaging.
Troubleshooting
Refer to the troubleshooting table for solutions to common problems.
- Coffee not dispensing: Check water level, clean filter holes, ensure water tank is correctly inserted, descale if necessary, adjust grind size, or check for excessive tamping.
- Coffee flowing around portafilter: Ensure portafilter is correctly attached, clean it, or check the group head seal.
- Machine not working, all lights flashing: Unplug and contact technical support.
- Coffee is light or dispenses quickly: Check coffee tamping, coffee quantity, or grind size.
- Coffee is too dark or dispenses slowly: Reduce tamping, reduce coffee quantity, or adjust grind size.
- Machine not dispensing steam: Ensure the machine has reached the correct temperature or descale if necessary.
- Water leak at the base: Check drip tray insertion, water tank insertion, or clean the bean hopper.
- Coffee dispenses from only one spout: Ensure coffee is pressed horizontally or clean the spouts.
- Spouts are blocked: Clean the spouts.
- Manometer not indicating pressure: Check coffee quantity and tamping, or contact service if it's a circuit problem.
- Coffee not hot: Increase coffee temperature via programming menu, or preheat the cup with hot water.
- Foam quality not optimal: Clean the steam wand, check milk type, temperature, and user technique.

Operation
Preparation of Espresso Coffee (Fig. A, B, C, D)
- Preheat cups with hot water or by dispensing hot water into them.
- Rinse the dispensing unit (21) and portafilter (20) by dispensing a double coffee without coffee.
- Check water level and fill if necessary.
- Ensure the bean hopper (3) contains coffee beans.
- Select the appropriate filter (30a, 30b, 31a, 31b) and insert it into the portafilter (20).
- Insert the portafilter (20) into the portafilter support (19).
- Press the grind button (11 or 12) for the desired amount of coffee.
- Distribute the ground coffee evenly and tamp it using the tamper (23).
- Clean excess coffee from the portafilter and attach it to the dispensing unit (21).
- Place cup(s) under the portafilter spouts.
- Select the desired beverage and press the dispensing button (13 or 14).
- The manometer (16) indicates optimal coffee extraction (Fig. D).
- Remove and clean the portafilter after use.
- The machine enters energy-saving mode after 5 minutes of inactivity.
Steam Distribution and Cappuccino Preparation (Fig. A and E)
- Use cold milk in the milk jug.
- Insert the steam wand (22) into the milk and activate steam.
- Clean the steam wand after each use.
- For multiple cappuccinos, prepare all coffees first, then froth the milk.
Hot Water Dispensing
- Place a container under the steam wand (22).
- Turn the lever (15) to dispense hot water.
Personalization of Quantity
- Press and hold buttons (11, 12, 13, or 14) for 3 seconds to personalize quantities.
- Follow on-screen prompts to adjust and save settings.
Machine Settings
You can adjust settings such as auto-off time, water hardness, coffee temperature, and pre-infusion profiles via the programming menu.
- Access the menu by pressing buttons (11) and (14) simultaneously for 5 seconds.
- Use the respective buttons to select and adjust settings.
- The machine will confirm settings with button flashes and an audible signal.
Water Hardness Adjustment
- Use the provided test strip to determine water hardness.
- Select the corresponding setting (soft, medium, hard, very hard) in the programming menu.
Coffee Temperature Adjustment
- Access the programming menu and select button (13) to adjust coffee temperature.
Pre-infusion Profiles
- Access the programming menu and select button (14) to adjust pre-infusion profiles (short, standard, pulse, constant).
Audible Signals
- Audible signals can be activated or deactivated by pressing buttons (11) and (12) simultaneously for 5 seconds.
Restore Factory Settings
- Press buttons (12) and (13) simultaneously for 10 seconds to restore factory settings.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and longevity of your coffee machine.
- Use cleaning capsules available on the market for domestic coffee machines.
- Follow the cleaning cycle instructions carefully.
- Descale the machine as indicated by the machine or regularly based on water hardness.
- The descaling cycle involves several steps, including pauses for the descaler to act.
- Rinse the machine thoroughly after descaling.
