Operation
Before First Use
Unpack the appliance and remove all packaging material. Wash removable parts (water tank, lid, drip tray) with lukewarm water. Ensure all parts are intact before use. Place the appliance on a level surface and attach the drip tray. Connect the power cable.
Switching On
Press the ON/OFF button (8). The display will show temperature progression, and buttons will blink. The machine is ready when all buttons are lit and the display shows the set temperature.
First Use (Rinsing)
It is recommended to run a rinsing cycle for the internal circuits. Insert a filter (without coffee) into the filter holder (9), place it under the brew group (12), and lock it. Place a cup under the brew group. Activate the coffee dispensing lever (6) to fill the cup halfway, then stop the dispensing. Repeat this process. Rinsing is also advised after periods of non-use.
Preparing Espresso
For optimal taste: Preheat cups by rinsing with hot water or dispensing hot water into them. If using a Smeg coffee grinder (CGFO2), set it to "VERY FINE".
Steps:
- Check water level in the tank (5) and refill if necessary, not exceeding the MAX level.
- Insert the appropriate filter (21a/b or 22a/b) into the filter holder (9).
- Distribute ground coffee evenly and press it with the tamper (16). The tamper's rim should align with the filter holder's rim for correct dosage and pressure.
- Clean excess coffee from the filter holder and insert it into the brew group (12), turning counter-clockwise until it locks.
- Place cups under the dispensing spouts.
- Manual Preparation: Lift the lever (6) to start dispensing.
- Pre-set Preparation: Press one of the dispensing buttons (3a or 3c).
- Fill the cup to the desired level.
- The pressure gauge (14) indicates brewing pressure.
- Caution: Do not release the filter holder during dispensing. Wait a few seconds after dispensing stops.
- After dispensing, turn the filter holder clockwise to remove and clean it.
- Caution: Wait about 30 seconds before removing the drip tray after dispensing.
The machine enters energy-saving (Eco Mode) after 10 minutes of inactivity.
Adjusting Coffee Quantity
You can set the dispensed coffee quantity individually for each type of beverage. Place a cup under the spout. Press and hold a dispensing button (3a or 3c) for at least 3 seconds until the indicator light is steady. Press the button again to stop dispensing when the desired quantity is reached. The setting is saved permanently.
Recommendations
- Use freshly ground coffee for the best aroma.
- Ensure consistent coffee dose and pressure.
- Fast flow (light espresso): Grind finer, maintain dose.
- Slow flow (dark espresso): Grind coarser, maintain dose.
Steam Output & Milk Frothing
Steps:
- Ensure the drip tray (11) is correctly inserted.
- Select the "Steam" function using button (3b). Wait for the machine to reach the correct temperature (indicated by an LED).
- Position the steam pipe (15) at the correct height.
- Open the steam/hot water knob (13) briefly to release residual water.
- Close the knob (13), position the steam pipe into the milk jug (23) filled with cold milk, and tilt the jug slightly.
- Turn the knob (13) clockwise to dispense steam.
- Once the desired milk temperature is reached, turn the knob (13) counter-clockwise to stop.
- Caution: After heating milk, briefly dispense steam to clean the nozzle. Clean the steam nozzle after each use.
- Pour frothed milk into the espresso.
Milk frothing quality depends on milk type, temperature, and technique.
Hot Water Output
Steps:
- Place a container under the steam pipe (15).
- Select the "Hot Water" function using button (3b). Wait for the machine to reach the correct temperature.
- Turn the hot water dispensing knob (13) clockwise to dispense hot water.
