Orthophosphate Measurement

Method

The Molybdate-Vanadate method (also known as the Yellow method) detects orthophosphate (dissolved PO43-). A color reagent containing molybdate and vanadate is added to the sample. In an acidic environment, the PO43- ions are incorporated into the resulting polyanions. Depending on the concentration of PO43- ions, a yellow color develops, the intensity of which is proportional to the PO43- amount. The colored sample is then analyzed in a photometer at approximately 420 nm.
