Stäubli Megawatt Charging System (MCS)

E-Mobility | Multi-pin Connector

Introduction to Stäubli's E-Mobility Solutions

As the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) for long-distance and heavy-duty applications grows, the challenge of charging large batteries within a reasonable timeframe has become significant. To address this, the global Charging Interface Initiative e.V. (CharIN) has collaborated with industry leaders, including Stäubli, to develop the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) standard. This initiative aims to promote interoperability and establish a global standard for charging all types of vehicles.

Stäubli's electrical connectors are engineered to meet the demanding requirements for efficient, safe, and long-lasting EV charging, even under harsh environmental conditions. Key features include a compact design, ease of maintenance, resistance to vibration and shock, and the assurance of permanent electrical contact through Stäubli's patented MULTILAM contact technology. External certifications and rigorous quality testing underscore Stäubli's commitment to delivering superior solutions.

Key Features:

Megawatt Charging System (MCS)

Stäubli's MCS system is designed in accordance with CharIN task force specifications, emphasizing robustness and user-friendliness. This enables fast and intuitive charging, allowing drivers to manually charge large electric vehicles without the need for auxiliary machinery or robots. By increasing the conductor cross-section in compliance with existing standards, the MCS system significantly reduces charging times and enhances flexibility for users. It is an essential element in realizing sustainable transportation.

High Power for Short Charging Times:

Delivering up to 4.5 MW of charging power with a rated current of up to 3000A and a rated voltage of DC 1500V, Stäubli's MCS system substantially increases the output of existing combined charging systems. This high charging capacity drastically cuts charging times, enabling extended operational periods for large vehicles. The exceptional robustness of Stäubli's MCS further enhances its quality and prevents downtime.

Applications:

Stäubli's MCS connectors are suitable for charging a wide range of heavy-duty vehicles. While the CharIN standard primarily targets commercial vehicles in Classes 6, 7, and 8, such as trucks, construction vehicles, and agricultural machinery, MCS connectors can also be used for buses, ships, aircraft, and other large battery electric vehicles (BEVs) equipped with large battery packs that require megawatt charging capabilities.
