Setup
Setup Example
The diagram shows two DMX controllers (A and B) connected to the DMX Split/Boost 8 PRO's inputs (AMBER and BLUE respectively). The eight outputs of the splitter are then connected to multiple lighting fixtures, forming DMX chains.
Installation
Place the unit on a flat surface or install it in an equipment rack. Racks should have front and rear access and a cooling fan. Ensure adequate space for ventilation to prevent overheating. The device can be secured with four M6 screws in a rack.
Suspended Installation
WARNING! Risk of Injury from Falling Objects:
Overhead installations require secure mounting by a qualified specialist. The rigging structure must support at least 10 times the weight of all fixtures. Work from a stable platform and block access below. Use appropriate rigging hardware and a secondary safety bond attached to the safety eyelet, ensuring a maximum drop distance of 20 cm if the main attachment fails. Regular inspections are required.
Operation
DMX512 Connection
The DMX inputs are isolated. Outputs are isolated transmitters with RDM bias network. Each output is optically isolated. Use special DMX cables for high data flow.
- Connect DMX consoles to signal inputs A and B. Front and rear XLR inputs are parallel; use either set exclusively.
- Each DMX output (1-4) can connect to a DMX chain of up to 32 devices. The last device in each chain must be terminated with a 120 Ω resistor.
Connection to the Power Supply
- Connect the provided mains cable to the POWER IN jack and a grounded mains socket. The device powers on.
- Use the POWER OUT jack to supply power to other DMX fixtures. This output is wired in parallel with the input and supports a maximum load of 16 A.
Viewing Connection Status
Use input port buttons (5) and (7) to display input status. Turn the encoder to view incoming DMX values.
Assigning Input Signals to Outputs
Use the output port buttons (9) or navigate the menu. Press buttons repeatedly to cycle through input sources (Amber, Blue, or Merge). The LED indicator shows the assigned input (Green for A, Blue for B, Purple for Merge). Confirm selection with the encoder.
Mode Settings
Select the DMX mode from the list. The current mode is marked with an asterisk (*).
Available DMX Modes:
- DMX and RDM: Functions as a bidirectional RDM splitter.
- Classic DMX: Receives and forwards DMX data; RDM is disabled.
- DMX 40Hz Frame Int.: DMX at 40 fps, frame integrity ON.
- DMX 30Hz Frame Int.: DMX at 30 fps, frame integrity ON.
- DMX 20Hz Frame Int.: DMX at 20 fps, frame integrity ON.
- DMX 10Hz Frame Int.: DMX at 10 fps, frame integrity ON.
- DMX 40Hz: DMX at 40 fps, frame integrity OFF.
- DMX 30Hz: DMX at 30 fps, frame integrity OFF.
- DMX 20Hz: DMX at 20 fps, frame integrity OFF.
- DMX 10Hz: DMX at 10 fps, frame integrity OFF.
Notes on Frame Integrity:
- Frame Integrity ON: Ensures well-defined timing and processes DMX packets as whole units, guaranteeing uninterrupted operation at the cost of a slight delay.
- Frame Integrity OFF: Shorter delay, but partially updated DMX frames may be sent out.
- In Classic DMX and DMX 10-40Hz modes, the splitter is not RDM-identifiable.
Status Display
Shows DMX signal presence, channel, frame rate, port mode, and assigned outputs. Incoming DMX values can be viewed by turning the encoder.
Merge
Configure merging options for the two DMX universes. Four operating modes are available.
Merge Modes:
- HTP (Highest Takes Precedence): Highest DMX value has priority. Combines signals, allowing channels from both inputs to be active.
- LTP (Latest Takes Precedence): Latest DMX value has priority. Ideal for intelligent lighting control.
- A+B: DMX channel is split. Input A for the first part, Input B for the second. Packets are not combined (e.g., A up to channel 36, B from channel 37). Start address for B is programmable.
- Backup: Input A has priority. If Input A signal is lost, Input B takes over.
Frame Rate
Select the desired DMX refresh rate after configuring the merge mode (DMX 40Hz, 30Hz, 20Hz, 10Hz).
Outputs
Configure the eight output ports. Each output can be assigned to one of the two inputs. Output port buttons (9) offer quick access.
To configure an output, select it, then repeatedly turn the encoder to change the input source (Amber, Blue, or Merge). Confirm with the encoder. The LED indicator shows the assigned input.
DMX Error Alarm
Configure the sound alarm for errors. Options are ON or OFF. When ON, a short circuit between pins 1+2 and 2+3 triggers an alarm sound and a red status light on the output channel.
Settings
Change the device name and view system information.
Label (Device Name)
Edit the device name using the encoder and button. Navigate character by character, select new characters, and confirm. Save changes or discard them.
Information
View device parameters: Model name, RDM Identifiers (UID A/B), Boot SW version, and Firmware version.
Default Settings
Reset the device to factory default settings. This restores the device name, DMX mode (DMX and RDM), error alarm (OFF), and port assignments (Input A: 1-4, Input B: 2-8). Confirm reset with the encoder or cancel with the ? button.
Screen Saver
The OLED display turns off automatically after 30 seconds of inactivity to improve durability. Press the encoder to turn it back on.
RDM
The device is RDM discoverable and works as an RDM-capable splitter when the universe is set to "DMX and RDM" mode. RDM capabilities are disabled in other modes.
