Introduction
This trimmer is intended for use by residential homeowners to trim grass outdoors. It is designed for Toro Flex-Force lithium-ion battery packs (Models 88620, 88625, 88640, 88650, 88660, or 88675) and charged by specific Toro battery chargers (Models 88602, 88605, or 88610). Using this product for unintended purposes may be dangerous.
Read this manual carefully for proper operation and maintenance to avoid injury and product damage. You are responsible for safe operation.

Important Safety Instructions
I. Training
- The operator is responsible for any accidents or hazards to others or their property.
- Do not allow children to use or play with the appliance, battery pack, or charger.
- Only responsible, trained, and capable individuals should operate or service this device.
- Read all instructions and cautionary markings before use.
- Familiarize yourself with controls and proper use.
II. Preparation
- Keep bystanders and children away from the operating area.
- Use only specified Toro battery packs and accessories.
- Use only 120V outlets for the battery charger. Use an adapter if necessary for different connections.
- Do not use damaged or modified battery packs or chargers.
- Contact an Authorized Service Dealer if the battery charger supply cord is damaged.
- Do not use non-rechargeable batteries.
- Charge battery packs only with the specified Toro charger.
- Charge battery packs in a well-ventilated area.
- Do not expose battery packs or chargers to fire or temperatures above 100°C (212°F).
- Follow charging instructions and stay within the specified temperature range.
- Operate the appliance only with all guards and safety devices in place and functioning.
- Dress properly: wear eye protection, long pants, slip-resistant footwear, rubber gloves, and hearing protection. Tie back long hair and avoid loose clothing or jewelry. Wear a dust mask in dusty conditions.

- Do not operate the power head without an attachment.
- Avoid dangerous environments like rain or wet locations.
- Use the proper appliance for your application.
- Prevent unintentional starting: ensure the switch is OFF before connecting the battery. Do not carry the appliance with your finger on the switch.
- Operate in daylight or good artificial light.
- Remove the battery pack before adjusting or changing accessories.
- Keep hands and feet away from the cutting area and moving parts.
- Stop the appliance, remove the battery, and wait for all movement to stop before servicing.
- Remove the battery pack when leaving the appliance unattended.
- Do not force the appliance; let it work at its designed rate.
- Do not overreach; maintain proper footing and balance. Walk, do not run.
- Stay alert, use common sense. Do not operate when ill, tired, or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Keep ventilation openings clear of debris.
- Under abusive conditions, battery liquid may eject; avoid contact. Flush with water if contact occurs. Seek medical help for eye contact.
- CAUTION: Mistreated battery packs can cause fire or chemical burns. Do not disassemble, heat, or incinerate. Use only genuine Toro battery packs. Keep away from children.
IV. Maintenance and Storage
- Maintain the appliance with care; keep it clean and in good repair. Keep handles dry.
- When the battery pack is not in use, keep it away from metal objects to prevent shorting terminals.
- Keep hands and feet away from moving parts.
- Stop the appliance, remove the battery, and wait for movement to stop before servicing.
- Check for damaged parts and ensure proper operation. Have damaged parts repaired or replaced by an Authorized Service Dealer.
- Do not replace non-metallic cutting means with metallic ones.
- Service only as indicated. Use an Authorized Service Dealer for parts.
- Store idle appliances indoors in a dry, secure place out of reach of children.
- Do not dispose of batteries in fire; they may explode. Check local codes for disposal.

Operation Details
Starting the Trimmer
- Ensure trimmer vents are clear of dust and debris.
- Align the battery pack cavity with the tongue on the handle housing. [Diagram: Battery pack insertion.]
- Push the battery pack into the handle until it latches.
- To start, press the lockout button, then squeeze the run trigger. [Diagram: Lockout button and run trigger.]
Note: Use the variable-speed switch to change trimmer speed.
Shutting Off the Trimmer
Release the trigger to shut off the trimmer. Remove the battery pack when not in use or when transporting.
Removing the Battery Pack
Press the battery latch on the machine and slide the battery pack out. [Diagram: Battery pack removal.]
Charging the Battery Pack
Important: The battery pack is not fully charged upon purchase. Charge until the LED display indicates it is fully charged. Read all safety precautions.
Important: Charge the battery pack only within the appropriate temperature range (refer to Specifications).
Note: Press the battery-charge-indicator button to display current charge.
- Ensure battery and charger vents are clear.
- Align battery pack cavity with charger tongue. [Diagram: Battery pack and charger connection.]
- Slide battery pack into charger until fully seated.
- To remove, slide battery backward out of the charger.
- Interpret LED indicator lights:

Important: The battery can remain on the charger for short periods. For longer periods, remove the battery.
Advancing the Line Using the Bump Feed
- Run the trimmer at full throttle.
- Tap the bump button on the ground to advance the line. The line advances with each tap. Do not hold the button down.
Note: The line trimming cut-off blade trims the line to the correct length.
Note: If the line is too short, manual advancement may be needed (see Advancing the Line Manually).

Advancing the Line Manually
Remove the battery pack. Push the bump button at the base of the spool retainer while pulling the trimmer line to advance it.
Adjusting the Cutting Swath
The trimmer comes with a 33 cm (13 inch) cutting swath. Adjust to 38.1 cm (15 inches) by removing the swath blade, rotating it 180°, and reinstalling it.

Operating Tips
- Keep the trimmer tilted toward the cutting area.
- Cut from right to left to prevent debris from being thrown at you.
- Use the tip of the string for cutting; do not force the head into uncut grass.
- Avoid fences, walls, curbs, and wood, as they can wear or break the string rapidly.
- Avoid trees and shrubs to prevent damage to bark or surfaces.

Maintenance
After each use:
- Remove the battery from the trimmer.
- Wipe the trimmer clean with a damp cloth. Do not hose or submerge the trimmer.
- CAUTION: The line cutoff blade is sharp. Do not use hands to clean the deflector shield and blade.
- Wipe or scrape clean the cutting head area.
- Check and tighten all fasteners. Repair or replace damaged parts.
- Brush debris away from air intake and exhaust vents to prevent overheating.
Replacing the String
Important: Use only 2 mm (0.080 in) monofilament string (Part No. 88611). Do not exceed 3.9 m (13.0 ft) of string.
- Remove battery pack and clean debris from trimmer head.
- Remove old string by pressing bump button while pulling line from both sides.
- Cut a 3.9 m (13.0 ft) piece of 2 mm (0.080 in) string.
- Align arrows on the knob and string head. [Diagram: Trimmer head disassembled view.]
- Insert one end of the line into the LINE IN eyelet, through the track, and out the other eyelet. Ensure even length on both sides.
Important: Do not disassemble the trimmer head.
- Hold the string head, rotate the bump knob clockwise.
- Wind the line, leaving about 130 mm (5 inches) extending beyond each eyelet.
Storage
Important: Store tool, battery, and charger within specified temperature ranges.
Important: For off-season storage, remove battery, charge to 2-3 green LEDs. Do not store fully charged or depleted. Recharge when ready for use.
- Disconnect product from power supply.
- Do not store the tool with the battery pack installed.
- Clean all foreign material from the product.
- Store out of reach of children.
- Keep away from corrosive agents.
- Do not store battery pack outside or in vehicles.
- Store in an enclosed clean, dry area.
Preparing the Battery Pack for Recycling
Important: Cover battery terminals with heavy-duty tape. Do not disassemble.
Lithium-ion battery packs with the Call2Recycle seal can be recycled at participating retailers or facilities (US and Canada). Find locations at www.call2recycle.org or call 1-800-822-8837. For other locations, contact your local municipality or Toro distributor.
Troubleshooting
Perform only the steps described. Further service must be done by an authorized service center.
