B Installation
Standard Rack Mount
- Position the switch in the rack. A second person loosely screws the front brackets to the rack.
- While the first person holds the switch, the second person slides the L-brackets into the side mounting brackets from the rear until flanges contact the rack, then screws the L-brackets to the rack.
- After securing the L-brackets, tighten the front bracket screws.
Note: Allow at least 5.1 cm (2 inches) of clearance on each side for ventilation and at least 12.7 cm (5 inches) at the back for cables.
For detailed instructions on other rack mount options, download the user manual from www.aten.com.
(Optional) Front-L Bracket Mount
Install Front-L brackets (from the extension kit) for a more comfortable and secure posture. These brackets extend the front of the rack, allowing the unit to slide further out and the LCD screen to tilt more. Refer to the Front-L Bracket / Extension Kit Installation Guide for details.
Connecting the Device
- Grounding: Connect one end of the provided grounding wire to the grounding terminal and the other end to a suitable grounded object. This prevents damage from surges or static electricity.
- External Console (Optional): Connect your keyboard, monitor, and mouse to the console ports on the switch's rear panel. Ports are color-coded and marked with icons.
- KVM Connection: For each computer, use a Cat 5e cable to connect an available KVM port to a KVM adapter cable suitable for the computer. Maximum distance is 50m.
- KVM Adapter Cable: Connect the KVM adapter cable to the computer, plugging connectors into respective ports.
- LAN/WAN Connection: Plug the LAN or WAN cable into the KL1508Ai / KL1516Ai's LAN port.
- PON Connection (Optional): Use a Cat 5e cable to connect the KL1508Ai / KL1516Ai PON port to a serial adapter. Connect the adapter to the PON input port of a PDU unit. Refer to the user manual for serial adapter pin assignments.
- Power Connection: Connect the power cord to the switch and an AC power source.
After cabling, turn on the switch, then turn on the servers.
C Operation
OSD (On Screen Display)
The OSD is a menu-driven interface for computer control and switching. All procedures start from the OSD main screen. Tap the KVM OSD invocation key on the keyboard module to display the main screen.
Upon entering the OSD menu, you will be prompted for a username and password. The default is 'administrator' / 'password'. You will be prompted to change the password immediately.
Hotkeys
All hotkey operations require invoking Hotkey mode first. Refer to the user manual for more information on unit operation.
