- Installation and electrical wiring must be completed by qualified professionals according to applicable codes and standards.
- DO NOT attempt to install this appliance yourself due to potential injury from lack of electrical and technical background.
- Installer should leave these instructions with the consumer for future reference.
- Two-person installation is highly recommended due to the size and weight of the range hoods.
- Use gloves during installation to protect against sharp edges on parts like the hood, chimney cover, and baffle filters.
- The manufacturer is not responsible for damage caused by incorrect installation, improper use, or failure to heed warnings.
- The manufacturer reserves the right to make necessary product changes without affecting essential safety and operating characteristics.
- This appliance is designed for general ventilating use only. DO NOT use to exhaust hazardous or explosive materials and vapors.
- Ensure proper combustion air flow for fuel-burning equipment. Consult standards like NFPA and ASHRAE, and local codes.
- Sufficient air is needed for proper combustion and exhausting of gases to prevent back drafting.
- Disconnect power before servicing or cleaning to avoid electric shock.
- Ducted range hoods MUST be vented outdoors or converted to recirculate air.
- If an external damper exists at the home's exit point, remove the damper in the hood's transition piece to prevent performance reduction.
- Consult an HVAC or installation professional for advice on local regulations and appropriate ventilation.
- Be careful not to damage electrical wiring or other utilities when cutting or drilling into walls or ceilings.
- All electrical wiring must be properly installed, insulated, and grounded. Use the provided grounded 3-prong plug into a dedicated 15-amp circuit. Tampering with the plug or cord voids the warranty.
- Electrical installation must comply with the National Electrical Code (ANSI/NFPA 70) and local codes.
- Clean or replace old ductwork to prevent grease fires. Ensure all ductwork joints are properly taped and secured.
- When air is vented out, it must be replaced (makeup air). Insufficient makeup air can lead to negative air pressure and reduced hood function.
- Vikio does not provide makeup air units. Consult building codes for airflow rates; some states may require makeup air for higher CFM hoods.
- Keep the motor, fans, filters, and grease-laden surfaces clean. Grease accumulation can increase flammability. Clean surfaces frequently.
- Exercise caution when cleaning; never direct spray of water or cleaners onto electrical wiring, motor, button panel, or light bulbs.
- After installation, remove protective film and clean any residues with a stainless steel cleaner.
Electrical Requirements
- Consult a qualified electrician to ensure electrical installation is adequate and conforms to National Electrical Code (ANSI/NFPA 70), CSA Standards (C22.1-94), and local codes.
- A 120-Volt, 60 Hz, AC-only, fused electrical supply is required on a separate 15-amp circuit.
- DO NOT ground to a gas pipe.
- Save this Installation Guide for electrical inspector's use.
- Connect the range hood with copper wire/plug only.
- Connect directly to a fused disconnect or circuit breaker box using flexible armored or non-metallic sheathed copper cable.
- Use a U.L.- or C.S.A.-listed strain relief at each end of the power supply cable.
- Wire sizes and connections must conform to the appliance rating specified on the model/serial rating label and comply with the National Electrical Code or CSA Standards and local codes.
- Use a U.L.- or C.S.A.-listed conduit connector at each end of the power supply cable.
Venting Requirements
- Duct system must terminate outdoors (roof or side wall).
- DO NOT terminate the duct system in an attic or other enclosed area.
- DO NOT use 4" (10.2 cm) laundry-type wall caps.
- Use metal/aluminum duct only; rigid metal/aluminum vent is recommended.
- DO NOT use plastic duct.
- Keep the duct clean for proper airflow.
- Calculate installation figures: floor to ceiling distance, countertop/stove to range hood distance (recommend 24" to 30"), and hood/duct cover height.
- For efficient and quiet operation:
- Maintain a distance of 24" to 30" between the stovetop and the bottom of the range hood.
- Venting vertically through the roof with 6" or larger round metal/aluminum ductwork is recommended.
- Maintain uniform duct size.
- Use no more than three 90° elbows.
- Ensure a minimum of 24" (61 cm) of straight duct between elbows if more than one is used.
- DO NOT install two elbows together.
- Keep the duct system length and number of elbows to a minimum.
- The duct system must have a damper. If the roof or wall cap has a damper, DO NOT use the supplied damper on the range hood.
- Seal all duct system joints with aluminum foil tape.
- Seal exterior wall or roof openings around the cap with caulking.
- Use a 6" round roof or rectangular wall vent cap.
- Use a rectangular to circular transition to connect the range hood to the ducting system.
- A minimum of a 6" round duct is required for maximum airflow efficiency.
- Use rigid metal/aluminum ducts when possible.
- Use long reducers instead of pancake reducers if a reducer is necessary. Reducing duct size restricts airflow and decreases efficiency.
- Install turns or transitions as far away from the opening and from each other as possible.
- Minimum mount height: 24" above stovetop. Maximum mount height: 30" above stovetop.
- Proper mounting height is crucial to prevent heat damage, fire hazards, and maintain performance.
- Refer to the stovetop manufacturer's height clearance requirements and recommended hood mounting height.
- Minimum Duct Size: 6" round.
Calculating Vent System Length
To calculate the required duct system length, subtract the equivalent feet for each duct piece used from the recommended maximum run. The maximum acceptable straight duct run is 50 feet.
Duct Run Calculation:
- Recommended maximum run (6" round duct): 50 ft
- Deductions per duct piece:
- Each 90° elbow: 9 ft
- Each 45° elbow: 7 ft
- Each round to rectangle transition: 7 ft
- Side wall cap with damper: 5 ft
- Roof cap: 7 ft
Example: A system with one roof cap, two 90° elbows, and one 45° elbow uses 7 ft + 9 ft + 9 ft + 5 ft = 30 ft of equivalent run. Subtracting this from the maximum 50 ft leaves 20 ft for the straight ducting.

Preparation
Advanced Preparations:
- Familiarize yourself with the range hood controls by reading the "Range Hood Operations" section.
- Place the range hood on a flat, stable surface.
- Connect the range hood to a designated standard outlet and verify all operations.
- Place all supplied parts and hardware on a flat surface and verify their existence.
- Carefully remove any white or blue plastic protective coating from the range hood.
Preparations:
- Decide on the venting pipe location from the hood to the outside (refer to "Venting Methods").
- A straight, short vent run ensures optimal hood performance. Minimize transitions, elbows, and long runs.
- Using 45-degree elbows is preferable to 90-degree elbows.
- Peel off any white plastic protective coating from the hood.
- Use aluminum tape to seal joints between pipe sections.
Do's and Don'ts for Duct Venting
- DO avoid sharp elbows; use 45-degree elbows when possible.
- DO NOT use reducers; maintain the duct size as specified in the manual to avoid reducing CFM and increasing noise.
- DO NOT use plenum boxes, as they create turbulence and reduce efficiency. Use a smooth elbow to guide air outdoors.
Diagrams illustrating these points are present in the original document.
Note: The hood must be tested before installation. Vikio is not responsible for additional labor costs related to reinstallation due to transportation damage or wiring issues.

CAUTION: Ensure the range hood is secure before releasing!
- Install Mounting Bracket: Apply spackle to seamlessly fill gaps between plywood and drywall. Sand smooth and paint if necessary. Use drywall plastic anchors and metal screws to install mounting brackets. Fasten wood screws to mount onto plywood based on prior measurements.
- Connect Power: Connect the range hood to a designated standard outlet. Check that the fan motor and lights are functioning.
- Safety Warning: Risk of electrical shock. Ensure the range hood is properly grounded by a qualified electrician. Turn off power at the service panel and lock it before connecting wires to prevent accidental power-on.
- Ducting: Cut out holes in the wall and ceiling to accommodate the elbow duct, transition, and exhaust duct. Use 6" round steel pipe to connect the exhaust to the ductwork above. Secure all joints with sheet metal screws and certified aluminum tape. Seal exterior wall or roof openings around the cap.
- Chimney Installation: Fasten screws to hold the chimney to the mounting bracket. Extend the upper chimney to sit flush against the ceiling. Insert both chimneys into the range hood, allowing them to slide into the top housing gap. Carefully extend the upper chimney to the mounting bracket and tighten screws, avoiding scratches.
- Final Checks: Connect the range hood's electrical wiring and verify fan motor and lights are functioning. Be aware of electrical hazards and refer to the product label for the correct voltage.
Charcoal Filters
For ductless installations, install activated carbon charcoal filters. It is recommended to use ducting whenever possible. If you have a recirculating kit, carbon charcoal filters are available to recirculate air.

Note: Charcoal filters cannot be washed and must be replaced when dirty or ineffective (typically every 3-6 months).
Filters
Installation of Baffle Filters:
- Angle the filter and direct the tab inserts toward the aft slot of the range hood opening.
- Lift the lever for the retractable tabs to clear the way for flush insertion.
- Once the filter sits flush within the opening, release the lever to lock it in place.
Diagrams illustrating the filter installation process are included.
Before installing, remove the protective white film.
Venting Methods
This range hood is factory set for venting through the roof or wall. Ductwork can terminate either way. A 90° elbow is needed for wall venting.
- IMPORTANT: NEVER exhaust air or terminate ductwork into spaces between walls, crawl spaces, ceilings, attics, or garages. All exhaust must be vented to the outside.
- Use only metal/aluminum ductwork.
- Fasten all connections with sheet metal screws and tape all joints with certified aluminum tape. Seal exterior wall or roof openings around the cap.
- In colder climates, wrapping insulation around the ducts and optional blowers is required.
- The system must have a Backdraft Damper.
