Immergas MODBUS Room Temperature and Humidity Sensor Probe Kit

Immergas MODBUS Room Temperature and Humidity Sensor Probe Kit

Product Code: 3.030992 | Part Number: 1.044286 - Rev. ST.004798/001-12/21

Introduction

The MODBUS room temperature and humidity sensor kit is a device designed to detect the temperature and humidity within an environment. It is intended for installation with compatible systems and products, such as those detailed in product data sheets. This kit utilizes an RS485 serial connection, offering significant advantages in installation cost reduction, fewer connections, and simplified wiring. It supports connecting up to 32 units on the same serial channel, subject to controller limitations. The 8 DIP switches (DP1-8) allow for configuration of the serial signal transmission mode and the peripheral's address, as illustrated in Figure 6.

  • Address Selection (DIP 1-5): Configured using 5-bit binary code. Example: Off-Off-Off-Off-Off = 128; On-Off-On-Off-Off = 128+5=133.
  • Protocol: Modbus supervisor protocol.
  • Serial Speed: Selectable between 9600 and 19200 Bit/sec.

Detailed switch settings are found in the instruction booklet of the device connected to the sensor kit (e.g., Magis Pro V2, Magis Combo V2 instruction booklets).

Installation and Assembly

Follow the steps below for installation and assembly:

Opening the Probe

To open the probe, proceed as shown in Figure 2.

Figure 2: Illustration of the wall probe with key dimensions indicated: 127mm length, 83mm width, 22mm depth.

Mounting

For mounting, refer to Figure 1.

Figure 1: Illustration showing how to open the sensor probe cover and mounting considerations.
  • The probe can be housed in a 3-gang switch box (recessed) using 3.5x45 screws.
  • For wall mounting, use plugs (S5) and 3.5x45 screws. For metal walls, use M3x25 screws.

Warning: To prevent damage to the sensor and connections during assembly, and to avoid earthing the sensor's shield, use the provided spacers (as shown in Figure 1). The sensor and its metal protector must not be removed during installation. Note: Exercise extreme caution not to remove the connector linking the sensor to the base board.

Connections

Refer to Figure 6 for connection diagrams. Figure 4 provides a typical wiring diagram with a generic controller (consult the appliance's instruction manual for specifics).

Wiring Warnings:

  • For serial connections, use a shielded cable with twisted wires (2 wires + shield). The shield must be connected to earth. The serial GND reference can be connected for optically-isolated versions. For non-isolated versions, it may not be necessary if all probes share the same power supply and are connected to the controller's serial reference. Consult the general probe manual for more details.
  • Install serial cables with extreme care, ensuring they do not run near 230-400 Vac power cables or contactor control cables to minimize electromagnetic interference.
  • Ensure basic insulation from the mains power supply for the controller to which the probe is connected. An additional power supply from an external transformer (Figure 7) can be used to avoid errors due to power supply current.
  • For electrical power connections, use cables with a cross-section of 0.5 to 1.5mm². For longer connections (> 10m), the maximum cross-section is recommended.
  • For installations with a large number of probes (> 5 units), it is recommended to use a single, suitably-rated transformer in the electrical panel to power all probes. In this case, the secondary (G-G0) can be earthed (G0). Avoid using a single general transformer for the entire panel, including the probes.
