Product Overview

Thank you for purchasing the BT DieselWorks AutoSync. This patent-pending module offers a revolutionary, easy-to-install solution to add enhanced functional and comfort features to your GM K2xx truck or SUV. For initial setup, please follow the quick-start guide available on the 'AutoSync installation guides' page on the BT DieselWorks website. Registering your AutoSync and connecting it to your WiFi network is crucial for receiving the latest firmware updates and new feature additions.

NOTE: These instructions are for AutoSync firmware v2.20 and above. To verify your firmware version, navigate to the AutoSync menu, go to page 4, and select 'AutoSync info'.

IMPORTANT: Please read through all instructions carefully. Many technical support inquiries arise from misunderstanding or not following the provided guidance.

NOTE: Vehicles from 2017 onwards may have feature limitations and require an additional minor wiring modification at the Serial Data Gateway module connector. Refer to the supplementary 2017+ document on the website for detailed instructions on this wiring change/pin swap.

NOTE: Some menu items may appear or disappear based on the vehicle's state ('key on engine off' or 'key on engine running'). If a menu button seems missing, confirm the vehicle is in the correct mode (engine running or not running) before proceeding.

Installation and Basic Operation

The AutoSync module features two momentary push-buttons ('A' and 'B'), a row of DIP switches (typically covered by a sticker and not used), and a status LED. The AutoSync must remain plugged into the OBD port for all features to function. An OBD port splitter can be used for simultaneous operation with other scan tools (e.g., Edge Insight, EZ Lynk), though compatibility is only guaranteed with the BT DieselWorks OBD splitter.

The AutoSync will not drain your vehicle's battery when plugged in with the ignition off, nor will it cause harm if unplugged or plugged in while the vehicle is running.

Inline DIP switches (if present): ALL MUST BE SET TO "OFF". You should not need to adjust these, as they are pre-configured from the factory.

Module Installation:

Installation is straightforward: plug the AutoSync into your truck's OBD port, typically located under the dashboard. Ensure the vehicle's ignition is OFF during installation. The AutoSync will not void any powertrain or bumper-to-bumper warranties and is undetectable by dealers. Once unplugged, all traces are removed.

Status LED Indicators:

If the LED does not illuminate when plugged in, check the 'DLC/DSM' fuse.

NOTE: By default, AutoSync displays data in US/SAE units. To switch to metric units, use the vehicle's factory Driver Info Center (DIC) controls to set the units to 'metric'. The AutoSync will automatically detect this change and reconfigure itself.

Accessing the AutoSync Menu

To display the AutoSync main menu:

To navigate:

If the menu display appears frozen or does not draw correctly, press the 'back' button to refresh. Allow a moment for the system to respond, especially when the vehicle is busy.

Feature Descriptions

ECM Tune Switching (Diesel) / Active Fuel Management (AFM) Disable (Gas)

For Diesel Vehicles: This menu option, found on AutoSync main menu page 1, allows control over EFILive DSP or EZ Lynk SOTF tune levels. Select your desired tune, and the mode will change instantly. The active tune is indicated by parentheses '()' around its number.

NOTE: Requires the separate AutoSync DSP/SOTF tune control wiring kit. See page 17 for installation details.

For Gas Vehicles: The 'ECM Tune Switching' icon is replaced with 'AFM: Enabled/Disabled'. Set this to 'DISABLED' to turn off Active Fuel Management. This setting is remembered permanently.

Strobe Lights

Found on page 1 of the AutoSync main menu, this mode activates exterior strobe lighting, rapidly flashing all exterior lights (headlights, turn signals, CHMSL, reverse, fog lights) in an alternating pattern. CHECK LOCAL LAWS regarding the use of this feature, as it may be considered impersonating a police officer on public roadways.

For 2017+ vehicles, this feature currently only operates with the key on, engine off. An update is in progress to enable engine-running strobes for 2017+ models.

Work Lights

Also found on page 1, this mode activates exterior work lights, turning on all cargo/bed lighting and reverse lights. It's useful for illuminating the rear of the vehicle for tasks like hooking up trailers or checking cargo. Unlike the factory cargo light button, this feature works while driving. For 2017+ vehicles, it currently operates with key on, engine off; a fix is being developed.

Reverse Work Lights / Spot Lights

Accessible on page 3 of the AutoSync main menu (only visible with key on, engine OFF), this feature automatically activates cargo lights and tow-mirror spot lights when shifting into reverse. This provides additional illumination for backing up without manual switch operation. The setting is saved permanently. For 2017+ vehicles, this also operates only with key on, engine off.

Viewing Live Engine Data (Powertrain Data)

The 'Powertrain Data' feature on page 1 displays live engine and transmission information.

Diesel PIDs include: Boost, EGT, Coolant Temp (ECT), Oil Pressure, Current Gear, Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) status (locked/unlocked), DSP/SOTF Tune, Turbocharger Vane Position, Actual Fuel Rail Pressure (aFRP), Desired Fuel Rail Pressure (dFRP), Main Injection Fuel Rate, Main Injection Timing.

Gasoline PIDs include: Spark Advance, Knock Retard, MAF, MAP, Engine Load, Coolant Temp (ECT), Oil Pressure, Current Gear, Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) status (locked/unlocked).

NOTE: The 'EGT' reading uses the factory 'EGT-1' sensor (LML) or 'EGR-1' sensor (L5P). If this sensor is unplugged or removed (e.g., with an aftermarket downpipe), EGT will default to '1832°F'. For 'deleted' trucks, the EGT sensor wiring can be extended and relocated to the exhaust manifold for a more accurate 'pre-turbo' reading.

The Powertrain Data screen includes 'RECORDS' and 'Minimize' icons. The 'RECORDS' icon shows peak recorded values for each PID, stored permanently. Press 'ERASE' to clear these records. The 'Minimize' icon shrinks the display to a bar at the bottom, allowing view of navigation or radio. Two PIDs are visible in minimized mode; cycle through pages using the driver's door lock button.

Minimized data can also be mirrored on the Driver Info Center (DIC). To view engine data in the DIC, use steering wheel controls to select the 'NAVIGATION' page. The 'Dismiss' icon on the radio/nav screen hides the minimized data while keeping the DIC display active. 'Show Maneuver' returns to the full data page and cancels the DIC display.

If the minimized view is dismissed or cleared, press the rear defrost button four times to re-access the AutoSync main menu.

Viewing Backup Camera While Moving

Found on page 2, pressing the 'View Rear Camera' icon momentarily displays the backup camera for about 5 seconds before returning to the AutoSync menu. Requires a camera wiring modification on 2017+ vehicles.

Turn-Signal-Activated Backup Camera

This feature, found on page settings, automatically activates the backup camera for several seconds when a turn signal is used, aiding in blind spot checks. Requires a camera wiring modification on 2017+ vehicles.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: The 'RVC Backup Lights' menu item (page 3, key on engine OFF) requires the reverse lights to briefly activate to power the camera. If this is undesirable, re-wire the backup camera for constant power by cutting/splicing a wire at the tailgate harness. If you choose not to rewire, setting 'RVC Backup Lights' to ON will cause the reverse lights to flash briefly. If 'RVC Backup Lights' is set to OFF without the wiring modification, the radio screen may show 'service rear vision system' when manually activating the camera while driving. Always check this setting first.

High Idle Mode

Found on page 2, this mode raises the engine to approximately 1200 RPM. It is beneficial for warming the engine in cold weather, improving AC performance when parked in hot conditions, or jump-starting vehicles. The vehicle must be stopped, in Park, with the foot off the brake pedal. Applying the brake will disengage high idle. It may take up to 15 seconds for high idle to reach 1200 RPM.

Read/Clear Engine Codes (DTCs)

On page 2, this function reads and displays current or pending Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). DTC reading starts automatically upon selecting 'Current DTCs'. Wait several seconds for codes to appear before pressing 'Read DTCs' again if necessary. Press 'Clear DTCs' to clear all codes.

SecurIdle (Theft-Deterrent Shifter Lock, 2015-2016 Only)

Accessible on page 2 (key on, engine off), this feature locks the shifter in 'Park' even when the brake pedal is depressed. This prevents unauthorized driving. When set to 'ON', SecurIdle activates when the truck is locked with the remote keyfob while running. If the vehicle is broken into, attempting to shift out of Park will trigger continuous stereo beeping and keep the shifter locked. SecurIdle disarms automatically when unlocked with the remote keyfob. Unplugging the AutoSync disables SecurIdle within ~5 seconds.

Torque Converter Lockup Controller

(Optional extra-cost feature, diesel/Allison transmission only) Found on page 2, this option is visible only with the engine running. It offers two modes:

For safety, the controller suspends if the brake pedal is applied or stability control intervenes. Settings are not remembered across key cycles.

NOTE: Manual mode is best suited for specific applications like sled-pulling and is not recommended for constant daily driving.

Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Manual Regeneration Function

This function performs a cleaning procedure for diesel vehicles with a clogged DPF or those not completing normal regeneration. If the truck is in Park when 'DPF force regen' is selected (Main-Menu-Page-3), a 'service/stationary DPF regen' is initiated. If NOT in Park, a 'mobile/driving' regen is commanded. Follow on-screen instructions.

NOTE: For stationary/parked regens, ensure at least ½ tank of fuel, the hood is open, the truck is outside, and the exhaust area is clear. Exhaust gases during regen are extremely hot and can ignite combustible materials.

Parked service regens can take up to 45 minutes; mobile/driving regens may take up to 30 minutes of highway driving.

Launch Control

(Optional feature) Found on page 3, visible only with the engine running. This feature uses the ABS module for a 'smart' line-lock/automatic launch control. The vehicle should be in 4-wheel-drive with the brake pedal firmly applied before activation. Press the cruise control 'SET' button to activate. You may hear the ABS motor, feel brake pedal vibration, and see an ABS warning light, which is normal. Once the ABS motor stops, launch control braking is charged. An on-screen countdown (5-1) will appear. Release the brake pedal and bring engine RPMs to ~2200. At zero, brake pressure is released to launch the truck. Brake pressure can be manually released during the countdown by pressing 'RESUME'.

NOTE: Avoid repeated use of launch control; allow several minutes for ABS pump and solenoid cool-down to prevent premature wear.

Transmission Learn Functions (Diesel/Allison Transmission Only)

Found on page 3, this function provides Allison transmission TAPS reset and fast learn procedures. TAPS reset clears adaptive shifting values. Fast learn performs a clutch fill and release timing/volume learn procedure.

TAPS reset can be used after significant ECM tuning changes or power increases that cause harsh shifting. Fast learn is for initial installation of a new or rebuilt transmission and involves a three-stage process requiring driver input for shifting between gears.

DO NOT use TAPS reset or Fast Learn without consulting your tuner or transmission builder.

Vehicle Dynamics Info

On page 3, this displays live chassis dynamics data from stability and traction control systems. PIDs include: Longitudinal acceleration (forward/backward G-force), Lateral acceleration (side-to-side G-force), Oversteer/understeer, Yaw rate, TCS torque request, and Brake apply pressure.

Similar to engine data, peak records can be viewed via the 'RECORDS' icon and cleared with the 'RESET' icon.

TPMS Reprogramming / Disable

Within the 'Module Setup' menu (page 4), this function resets TPMS warning threshold pressure or disables the TPMS system entirely, suppressing warning messages. The 'Current setting' shows the BCM's programmed parameters, and 'Desired setting' is what will be programmed.

To disable TPMS, scroll to 'TPMS setting: DISABLED'. The 'current setting' will show 147psi. Press 'Program' to update the BCM. The display clears within 10 seconds. Cycle the key OFF after clearing.

NOTE: The 'Load range' parameter is for reference and scaled by AutoSync. It does not need to match the tire's actual load range.

NOTE: When TPMS is disabled, a temporary 'TPMS DISABLED' message may appear on the radio/navigation screen after startup. This message self-clears within 5 seconds and does not require user interaction ('Show Maneuver' or 'Dismiss').

Remote Keyfob Learn

Found in 'Module Setup' (page 4), this function learns additional remote keyfobs. New keyfobs can be purchased online and programmed without dealer visits. Each vehicle supports up to 8 keyfobs. Press the 'LEARN' icon and follow instructions.

NOTE: This procedure adds new keyfobs without affecting existing ones.

NOTE: This function only works for vehicles with keyed ignition, not keyless push-to-start.

Module Programming (BCM, HMI, Radio)

This menu option allows module reprogramming, including flashing custom third-party tuning into the BCM, HMI, and radio. Custom BCM tuning can unlock features like speed limiter disable, extended remote-start timer, and disabling LED turn signal hyperflash.

For tuning purchases, contact BT DieselWorks or White Auto & Media at www.whiteautoandmedia.com.

Fuel System Tests (Diesel Only)

On page 4, this feature is accessible only with the engine running and transmission in Park. It allows checking injector balance rates and running performance tests on the high-pressure fuel injection pump. Acceptable injector balance rates are generally +/-4.00 mm³ in Park with a warm engine.

The 'Injection pump test' checks the pump's ability to generate and maintain maximum rail pressure. The vehicle must be in Park with a warm engine and foot off the brake. The test takes about 10 seconds, during which the pump increases to hold maximum rail pressure. The engine may sound rough. Upon completion, the screen shows the differential between desired and actual rail pressure; a large differential or 'FAIL' indicates a weak pump or other fuel system issues.

For further diagnosis, contact your local diesel shop.

Performance Timer

Found on page 4, this function measures the vehicle's 0-60 mph time. The status will show 'NOT READY' if moving, 'READY' when stopped, and 'RUNNING' when accelerating. 'COMPLETE' is shown at 60 mph, displaying the time. The fastest time is stored permanently, even if AutoSync is unplugged. Faster times update the 'Best time'. Press 'Clear Records' to reset.

NOTE: Test accuracy depends on correct tire size settings. If larger-than-stock tires are installed and the speedometer/ECM tune is not corrected, the 0-60 mph time will be inaccurate. Verify speedometer accuracy using GPS.

Daytime Running Lights (DRL) Settings (2015-2016 Only)

Within 'Module Setup' (page 4), the 'DRL Setting' menu item is visible with key on, engine off, and in Park. It allows modification of DRL configurations. Options include: Stock, Fog lights, Fog lights w/LED, Disabled, Disabled w/LED. The 'w/LED' descriptor indicates factory LED DRLs vs. using low beam headlights as DRLs.

For example, GMC pickups and loaded SUVs often have factory LED DRLs. Chevrolet pickups from 2014-2015 and HD pickups from 2015-2019 typically do not have factory LED DRLs. Select 'w/LED' if your truck has factory LED DRLs.

You can select 'fog lights' to have fog lights and factory LEDs on simultaneously during DRL operation. If the truck's Ambient Light Sensor (ALS) has issues, the menu button will display 'ALS Invalid!', and AutoSync will disable DRL features for safety.

NOTE: Your truck's ALS wiring and all other BCM wiring MUST be STOCK. Do not wire in resistors, 'ALL 6 ON HIGH' diodes, or cut any wires going to the ALS.

Fog Lights with High Beam Settings (2015-2016 Only)

This feature is always activated automatically; there is no on/off setting.

Remote Keyfob Window Control

This function allows opening and closing side windows via remote keyfob. Ensure 'remote window operation' is set to 'ON' in the factory radio/nav settings. Hold 'UNLOCK' on the keyfob to open all windows; hold 'LOCK' to close them (truck off). Sunroof and rear sliding window control are not supported.

Video-in-Motion Override

AutoSync can disable factory video lockout features that prevent use when the vehicle is not in Park. To activate, ensure the vehicle is in Drive and press-hold the cruise control ON/OFF button for ~4 seconds. A chime and 'Video In motion active!' message will appear. This override must be re-initiated each time the vehicle is restarted or shifted into Park. Navigation destination entry cannot be overridden. THIS FUNCTION IS ILLEGAL TO USE ON PUBLIC ROADWAYS. DISTRACTED DRIVING IS DANGEROUS.

Radio / HMI VIN Clear

AutoSync can clear and reset the VIN lock on radios and HMI modules, useful for swapping components. Dealers cannot perform this. When a new radio/HMI is installed, it may show a 'theftlock' message. To unlock, with key on/engine off and AutoSync plugged in, press the accelerator pedal to the floor and hold. While holding the accelerator, press and hold the brake pedal. Then, press and hold the cruise control set/coast button. The screen should show 'NO VIN'. Release pedals and button. The radio will reset. Cycle the key OFF for 30 seconds, then back on, to store the truck's VIN.

EFILive DSP-5 / EZ Lynk SOTF Switching Installation (2015-2016 LML Only)

AutoSync provides an alternative to traditional rotary knobs for engine tune switching. The 'DSP/SOTF signal' wire is a required accessory.

BE SURE TO TRIPLE CHECK WIRING. Incorrectly splicing to the ground wire or other wires will destroy the AutoSync and void warranties.

AutoSync Info

This screen displays current AutoSync firmware version, unit serial number, and internal system information. The 'Firmware Update' icon initiates Over-The-Air software updates via WiFi. 'Fetch Purchases' is for additional BCM tuning bought separately.
