KENO Railing Installation Instructions for Photovoltaic Modules
This document provides detailed instructions for installing KENO photovoltaic modules horizontally onto balcony railings. The system is designed for modules with widths ranging from 1134 mm to 1140 mm and lengths up to 2278 mm.
Introduction and General Information
The installation system described is used to fix photovoltaic modules to balcony railings in a horizontal orientation, parallel to the railing. The design is compatible with modules from 1134 mm to 1140 mm wide and up to 2278 mm long.
KENO strives to ensure a top-quality and easy-to-install product. These instructions serve as a guide for the correct installation of structure components but do not replace a professional design. The installer must be suitably trained and qualified, bearing full responsibility for correct installation and choosing the appropriate construction type.
Installation Steps
-
Step 1: Protect Railing
As a first step, it is recommended to cover the elements K-74-03 and K-74-02 with an EPDM pad to protect the railing from damage.

Step 2: Pre-screw K-74-01 and K-74-03
Pre-screw the components K-74-01 and K-74-03 together. Use one of the two prepared holes to select the mounting height for the module on the railing. Bolt these components together using a K-76-20 carriage bolt and a K-21 nut.
Diagram 3: Bolting of elements K-74-01 and K-74-03. Shows K-74-01 (a vertical mounting bracket) being attached to K-74-03 (a U-shaped bracket) using a K-76-20 carriage bolt and a K-21 nut. Two possible mounting heights are indicated by different holes. -
Step 3: Attach Flat Bar K-74-02 to Hook K-74-01
Pre-bolt the flat bar K-74-02 to the hook K-74-01 using the carriage bolt K-76-20 and nut K-21. Use the appropriate hole to fit the assembly to the railing.
Diagram 4: Bolting of flat bar K-74-02 with hook K-74-01. Shows K-74-02 (flat bar) being attached to K-74-01 (vertical bracket) using a K-76-20 carriage bolt and a K-21 nut. Two views (A and B) show the connection points. -
Step 4: Bolt Module to Hooks
Bolt the module to the two pre-screwed hooks according to points 1 and 2. Use four K-18-20 Allen screws, four K-51-M8 washers, and four K-21-M8 nuts.
NOTE: Use the manufacturer-prepared holes in the module frame to screw the module in place.
Diagram 5: Installation of module (view I). Shows a photovoltaic module being attached to two K-74-01 brackets. The connection uses K-18-20 Allen screws, K-51-M8 washers, and K-21-M8 nuts. Diagram 6: Installation of module (view II). Shows a close-up of the module frame attachment points. -
Step 5: Tighten Allen Bolts
The Allen bolts must be tightened to a torque of 18 [Nm].
-
Step 6: Position Structure on Railing
Place the structure over the railing in such a way that the K-74-03 element leans against the railing.
Diagram 7: Installation of the structure on the railing. Shows the assembled module and brackets being placed onto a railing, with the K-74-03 element leaning against the railing. -
Step 7: Pre-screw K-74-01 Elements to Railing
Pre-screw the K-74-01 elements to the railing using the flat bars K-74-02. This is done using four K-76-100 carriage bolts and K-21 nuts.
NOTE: It is permissible to use any two holes in the flat bar and to arrange the flat bars at an angle if the design of the railing requires this.
Diagram 8: Installation of flat bar K-74-02 on the other side of the railing (view I). Shows K-74-01 elements being attached to the railing using K-74-02 flat bars, K-76-100 carriage bolts, and K-21 nuts. -
Step 8: Install Safety Bolt
Place the K-28-60 hexagonal bolt in the prepared hole in the K-74-03 element and screw it on the opposite side with the K-21 nut. The purpose of this bolt is to protect the structure from falling.
Diagram 9: Installation of the safety bolt. Shows a K-28-60 hexagonal bolt being inserted through K-74-03 and secured with a K-21 nut to prevent falling. -
Step 9: Final Torque Specification
All bolts with M10 threads must be tightened to a torque of 30 [Nm].
