1. Brief Introduction
The NF-168V/NF-168S is an updated multi-functional device for cable tracing, mapping, and Visual Fault Location (VFL function is only for NF-168V). It utilizes the same casing as the NF-168 emitter and receiver. Key highlights compared to previous series products include three tracing modes, three mapping modes, and the Visual Fault Locator.
- Tracing Modes: Ordinary tracing, Anti-interference, PoE switch.
- Cable Mapping Modes: Fast mode, Slow mode, Manual mode.
- Visual Fault Locator Modes: Continuous mode, Pulse mode (NF-168V only).
Diagram Description: Images show the Emitter and Receiver units for both NF-168V and NF-168S models.
2. Product Interface and Keypad Functions
Receiver Components: Probe, LED indicator, Toggle button, STATUS indicator, SCAN/VFL OFF button, TEST button, VERIFY button, Scan/VFL indicator, DIP switch, Wire sorting indicator, Signal indicator, LED indicator, Function switch, Sensitivity knob, Spotlight switch, Earphone jack.
Emitter Components: PWR/Signal LED indicator, AC filter LED indicator.
Diagram Description: Visuals depict the layout of buttons and indicators on the NF-168V Emitter and Receiver units.
3. Operation Instruction
(1) Cable Tracing
Basic Tracing
Emitter: Press the "SCAN" button to enter basic tracing mode (blue indicator flashes). Connect one end of the network cable/telephone cable (BNC cable only for NF-168S) to the RJ45/RJ11 port (BNC cable only for NF-168S) of the launcher.
Receiver: Set the switch to "Basic". The brightness of the indicator and the sound of the speaker change dynamically with signal strength. Even with no signal, there will be a weak change. Hold the receiver to find the target line.
AC Filter Tracing
Emitter: In basic mode, short press the "SET" button to enter AC filter mode (blue indicator flashes). Connect the cable to the launcher's port.
Receiver: Set the switch to "AC Filter". The indicator brightness and speaker sound change dynamically with signal strength. Hold the receiver to find the target line.
PoE Switch Tracing
Emitter: In AC filter mode, short press the "SET" button to enter POE scan mode (red and blue indicators flash). Connect one end of the network cable to the RJ45 port of the launcher.
Receiver: Set the switch to "AC Filter" to enter PoE switch mode. The indicator brightness and speaker sound change dynamically with signal strength. Hold the receiver to find the target line.
Low Voltage Indicator: Emitter low battery: red light flashes. Receiver low battery: red light flashes. Users can adjust sensitivity using the knob for optimal scanning.
Diagram Description: A graphic illustrates the sequence for switching between tracing modes: Power on -> Basic tracing (short press SET) -> AC filter tracing (short press SET) -> PoE switch tracing.
(2) Cable Mapping
Operation: Connect the two ends of the network cable to the RJ45 ports of the launcher and receiver separately. Set the switch to "TEST". The wire sort indicators will flash, indicating the transmitter is working.
Normal Wiring: If the wire is normal and GND is not connected, all 8 indicators flash one by one. If GND is connected, indicators 1-8 and G flash one by one.
Miswires:
- Open Circuit: If line "2" is open, the "2" indicator on both emitter and receiver will not flash. If multiple lines are open, corresponding indicators won't flash. If fewer than 2 lines are connected, no lights turn on.
- Crossed Wires: Example: line "2" and line "3" are crossed. Transmitter: 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-G. Receiver: 1-3-2-4-5-6-7-8-G.
- Short Circuit: Example: line "2" and "3" are shorted. The "2" and "3" indicators on the receiver will not flash, while others do.
Mapping Modes:
- Fast Mode (0.5 second): Set to "TEST". Wire sort indicator flashes. LED indicator flashes one by one every 0.5 seconds.
- Slow Mode (1 second): In fast mode, short press "SET" to enter slow mode. Wire sort indicator flashes. LED indicator flashes one by one every 1 second.
- Manual Mode: In fast/slow mode, long press "SET" to enter manual mode. Short press "SET" to advance through stages.
Notice: Only connect the cable to be tested to the RJ45 port of the emitter and receiver for mapping. LED light status shows cable continuity.
Diagram Description: A graphic shows the sequence for switching mapping modes: Power on -> Fast mode (short press SET) -> Slow mode (short press SET) -> Manual mode (long press SET).
(3) Visual Fault Detector (VFL) (NF-168V Only)
This function inspects fiber failures via an optical interface. It has two modes:
Continuous Mode
In any cable tracing mode, long press the "SET" button to enter continuous mode (default). A red laser emits from the optical interface, and the upper red light flashes. Caution: Do not stare directly at the beam to avoid eye damage.
Pulse Mode
In continuous mode, short press the "SET" button to enter pulse mode. The LED synchronizes with the light emission (pulse frequency 1-2 Hz). The upper red light also flashes.
Notice: Emitter low battery: indicator below flashes. VFL mode switching graphic shows sequence: Tracing mode -> Long press SET -> Continuous mode -> Short press SET -> Pulse mode.
4. Other Functions
- Low-Voltage Hint: When battery is low (below 6V), the scan indicator and wire sorting indicator flash when "SCAN" or "TEST" is pressed, indicating battery replacement is needed.
- Earphone Function: Use earphones in noisy environments to avoid external interference.
- Sensitivity Adjustment: Turn the sensitivity knob on the receiver while tracing to adjust for optimal signal detection.
- Floodlight Function: The side floodlight can be activated at night or in dark conditions to aid operation.
- Wire Sorting with Switch: Connect the line to be tested to the transmitter and switch; results are indicated by flashlights.
