Operating Instructions
Follow these steps for basic operation:
- Power On: Insert a 9V battery and press the power button. The LCD will illuminate.
- Cable Testing:
- Connect one end of the cable to the main unit's RJ45 port.
- If a remote unit is included, connect the other end of the cable to the remote unit's RJ45 port.
- Press the 'Test' button. The unit will automatically cycle through wire mapping and continuity checks.
- Results will be displayed on the LCD, indicating the status of each wire pair (e.g.,
1-1, 2-2
for continuity,1-3, 2-2
for a crossed pair).
- PoE Testing:
- Connect the cable to the main unit's PoE port.
- Press the 'PoE' button. The display will show the detected voltage and polarity (e.g.,

- Loop-Back Test:
- Connect the cable to the main unit's RJ45 port.

- Power Off: Press and hold the power button to turn off the device.
Interpreting Test Results
The NF-488 uses clear indicators for cable faults:
- Correct Wiring: Display shows sequential numbering for each pair (e.g.,
1-1, 2-2, 3-3, 4-4, 5-5, 6-6, 7-7, 8-8
