Parts List

  • 1x LED projection head light assembly
  • 1x Sub-harness
  • 8x Cable ties

Tools Used for this Installation

  • 4mm and 5mm Allen (hex) tool
  • 8mm and 10mm socket with ratchet
  • Standard Philips screwdriver
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Small/thin flathead screwdriver
  • Wire cutter (to cut cable ties)

Installation Steps

Step 1: Remove Lower Side Fairing

Remove the lower side fairing. Remove the center forward and lower bottom plastic fasteners using a flathead screwdriver that holds the 2 lower fairings together. Then remove two 4mm Allen bolts and one 5mm Allen bolt per side. The 5mm bolts have a shouldered washer. There are 3 tabs that interface with the painted section of the fairing. Repeat on the other side.

Step 2: Remove Center Wheel Well Panel

Remove the center wheel well panel. Remove 3 plastic fasteners per side, 1 plastic fastener at the upper middle, and 1 bolt on each side using a 10mm socket. Release the several tabs on each side and pull forward to remove the panel.

Step 3: Remove Painted Side Panel

Remove the painted side panel. Remove 1 bolt using a 4mm Allen and pull towards you to remove it; it is held on by 4 friction fasteners. Repeat on the other side.

Step 4: Remove Long/Thin Plastic Panel

Remove the long/thin plastic panel that runs up the side of the gas tank. Remove 1 Phillips screw near and below the seat and 1 bolt up top right below the handlebars using a 4mm Allen. Push down the rearmost end to clear the locking tab catch on the tank, then outwards and upwards to release the 3 friction fasteners. Repeat on the other side.

Step 5: Remove Upper Side Fairing Assembly

Remove the upper side fairing assembly. Remove 1 bolt right up front below the headlight using a 4mm Allen. Remove 1 bolt at the rearmost fairing using a 5mm Allen; this bolt has a shouldered washer. Remove 1 bolt at the lower (8mm socket) and uppermost (10mm socket) of the fairing. Support the fairing on the last bolt. Carefully remove the fairing, un-clipping the 4 locking tabs and 1 plastic fastener in the area below the handlebar. Unplug the turn signal. Repeat on the other side.

Step 6: Remove Mirrors and Windscreen

Remove mirrors and windscreen. Remove 4 bolts using a 4mm Allen.

Step 7: Remove Nose Fairing/Headlamp Assembly

Remove the nose fairing/headlamp assembly. Cut both cable ties securing the low and high beam /DRL harness to the head light sub-frame. Remove 2 bolts on each side using a 10mm socket: 1 on the upper side and 1 on the lower bottom.

Step 8: Detach Fairing/Headlight Assembly

Place a towel on the front fender. Lift up on the front nose fairing at the mirror standoffs and pull forward on the assembly to detach it from the sub-frame.

Step 9: Unplug Harness Connectors

Reach in and undo the 2 wire management clips, slide off the boots, and unplug the low beam, high beam, and 2 DRL connector plugs. At this time, the entire nose fairing/headlight assembly can be removed.

Step 10: Separate Nose Fairing from Headlight

Separate the nose fairing from the headlight, using 3 bolts removed with an 8mm socket.

Step 11: Swap Mount Collars and Grommets

Swap over both the metal collars and rubber grommets at the lower mount to the new LED head light. The collars insert from front to back.

Step 12: Connect Subharness

Connect the subharness. Locate the 'R' side and plug in the 4-pin main connector to the corresponding 4-pin connector on the right side of the head light. This right side has an off-white and white connector for the low beam input and right side DRL. Locate the 'L' side and plug the 4-pin main connector into the corresponding 4-pin connector on the left side of the head light. This left side has an off-white connector and white connector for the high beam and left side DRL. Route and secure the center of the harness following the curvature of the housing using 2 cable ties.

Image shows the back of the headlight assembly with wiring connectors labeled 'L' (blue/black wire) and 'R' (white/black wire), and red arrows indicating connection points.

Step 13: Mount Headlight to Nose Fairing

Mount the head light back onto the nose fairing using the same 3 bolts.

Image shows the headlight assembly being mounted to the nose fairing with red arrows pointing to bolts.

Step 14: Mount Assembly Back onto Bike

Mount the head light/nose fairing assembly back onto the bike. While keeping the towel on the front fender, carefully position and rest the assembly on the towel, then plug in the low beam, high beam, left DRL, and right DRL plugs. Cover with rubber boot. Install Intelliflash here (see video skip to 28:18). Secure the harness and any slack to the wire management clips, then position the assembly back onto the sub-frame and secure using the same 4 bolts. Use the cable ties to additionally secure the low/DRL and high/DRL harness to the sub-frame (same location as cut in step 7).

Step 15: Perform Systems Check

Perform systems check.

Step 16: Reinstall Components

Reinstall windscreen, mirrors, upper side fairings, plastic side trim, painted side panels, center wheel well panel, and lower side fairings.
