The Quell Q301 Photoelectric smoke alarm features a sleek, low-profile design for easy DIY installation. It includes a 9V replaceable battery that should be changed annually. Photoelectric alarms operate by directing a light source (LED) through a sensing chamber to a receiver. When particles enter the chamber, they alter the light pattern, which is detected by the receiver, triggering an alarm. These alarms are particularly effective at detecting smoldering fires, such as those caused by burning foam, rubber, and synthetic materials commonly found in modern homes.
