GROHE Thermostatic Mixer Installation and Safety Guide
Brand: GROHE
Model Numbers: Grohtherm Special, 14048, 14055, 49003
Safety Information
Avoiding Scalding
For points of discharge where outlet temperature requires special attention (hospitals, schools, nursing and retirement homes), it is recommended to use thermostatic devices that can be limited to 43 °C. This product is equipped with a temperature end stop.
For shower systems in nurseries and specific areas of care homes, it is generally recommended that the temperature should not exceed 38 °C. Use Grohtherm Special thermostats with special handles for easier thermal disinfection and appropriate safety stops.
Observe applicable standards (e.g., EN 806-2) and technical regulations for potable water.
Temperature Limitation
The safety stop limits the temperature range to 38 °C. To achieve a higher temperature, the 38 °C limit can be overridden by pressing the button.
Temperature End Stop
If the temperature end stop is to be set at 43 °C or 46 °C, the supplied temperature stop must be inserted into the corresponding position (see pages 10-12).
Danger of Frost Damage
When draining the domestic water system, thermostats must be drained separately, as non-return valves are installed in the cold and hot water connections.
Technical Data
Flow Pressure
- Minimum flow pressure without downstream resistances: 0.5 bar
- Minimum flow pressure with downstream resistances: 1 bar
- Recommended: 1.5 - 5 bar
Minimum Flow Rate
5 l/min
Temperature
- Hot water supply: max. 70 °C
- Recommended for energy saving: 60 °C
- Thermal disinfection possible
- Hot water temperature at supply connection: min. 2 °C higher than mixed water temperature
Flow rates without downstream resistances are detailed on page 2. These must be observed when dimensioning the outlet!
Special Accessories
- Extension 25mm (prod. no.: 14 048)
- For combination with bath fillers and pop-up overflows, an approved safety device according to EN 1717 is required (prod. no.: 14 055)
- Isolating valves (prod. no.: 14 053)
- Thermostat compact cartridge for exchanged water channels: Reversed connections, hot on right and cold on left, replace compact cartridge (prod. no.: 49 003)
Installation Steps
The installation involves several steps illustrated by diagrams. Key actions include:
- Preparation (Fig. [4]): For flushing, remove the plugs (Y).
- Initial Assembly (Figs. 1-14): Assemble the main unit components, ensuring correct connections.
- Valve Measurement (Fig. [18]): Measure valves and use the 25mm extension (prod. no.: 14 048) if the dimension exceeds 18mm.
- Alignment: The functional unit can be aligned by 6°.
- Temperature Adjustment (Fig. [15]): Adjust the temperature control before initial use if the measured mixed water temperature differs from the set temperature, or after maintenance.
- Setting Temperature Limits (Figs. 16-17): The safety stop limits the temperature to 38 °C. This limit can be overridden by pressing the button. For 43 °C or 46 °C limits, insert the provided temperature end stop (see pages 10-12).
- Final Assembly (Figs. 19-38): Complete the installation by fitting handles, covers, and connecting to the water supply, following the visual sequence.
