- Install the round rods to the quick release plate. Screw tight the round rods with an M2.5 wrench to secure the setup. (Illustration shows round rods being attached to a plate using a wrench).
- Loosen the locking screws for the support brackets, then install the brackets to the round rods. Ensure the first two support brackets are pressed tightly to the quick release plate. Finally, install two more round rods to the support brackets and tighten the screws for the support brackets. (Illustration shows attaching brackets to rods and then adding more rods).
- Loosen the locking screws for the motors (Lite and Max). Insert the motors to the appropriate positions on the round rods and tighten the screws. (Illustration shows motors being mounted onto the rod system). For cinema cameras, extend the round rods with additional rods from the CRANE 3S package to allow more adjustment space for the motors. The specifications of round rods are the same.
- Install the lens support and lens support base plate to the round rods. Adjust the lens support to an appropriate position. Install the lens support base plate to secure the whole setup. (Illustration shows attaching lens support components to the rod system). For cinema cameras and long-focus lenses, extend the round rods with additional rods from the CRANE 3S package to allow more adjustment space for the lens support. The specifications of round rods are the same.
- Fit the gear rings to the appropriate positions on the focus ring and zoom ring of the camera lens, then tighten the gear ring. (Illustration shows gear rings being placed around camera lens rings).
Gear Ring Synchronization:
- The control gears of the Servo Focus Motor and Servo Zoom/Focus Motor should fit the gear rings on the camera lens to ensure the two rings move synchronously and smoothly.
- To avoid interference from the gear ring tails with motor rotation, manually rotate the gear rings before clamping the control gears to confirm the start and end positions of the focus or zoom range. Adjust the tail positions of the gear rings accordingly.
6. Loosen screws for the bracket to adjust the position of motors and the lens. Ensure the gear rings fit the control gears. Tighten the screws. When the positions of motors and lens support are fixed, the motors are able to control the focus and zoom. (Illustration shows final adjustments and connections).
7. Mount the quick release plate with the camera and motors onto CRANE 3S. Follow the instructions to balance the setup.
8. Connect the motors and the stabilizer with USB-C cables. (Illustration shows USB-C cables connecting motors to the stabilizer).
How to Use
In default situations, motors will automatically turn on when the stabilizer is powered on, provided they are properly connected. Rotate the focus wheel to adjust the Servo Focus Motor (Lite). Press the zoom button on the CRANE 3S to adjust the Servo Zoom/Focus Motor (Max). (Diagrams show a hand operating a focus wheel and pressing a zoom button on a gimbal handle).
Firmware Update:
The firmware for the motors is included in the CRANE 3S firmware. If updates are available for both the stabilizer and motors, you can update the motor firmware directly through the CRANE 3S SmartSling Handle.
Connect the Lite (CMF-03) or Max (CMF-04) motor to the stabilizer correctly. Note that motors can only be updated one by one. Enter the menu to select: focus > Lite > Max > upgrade
. After selection, the motor's status indicator will blink fast. Complete the update by restarting the stabilizer. (Diagram shows a motor connected via USB-C cable to a stabilizer for firmware updates).
⚠️ When updating the motor, please ensure the name of the motor corresponds to the one in the menu. Otherwise, the performance of the motor may be affected or malfunction may occur.
