1. Functional Statement
CarPlay / Android Auto
The built-in vehicle machine interaction system of iPhone cooperates with the central control knob button to provide voice command and control of phone, information, navigation, and music. It allows operation of Siri voice interaction to obtain more information. Supports wireless and wired connection for CarPlay and Android Auto, including voice control of phone, information, and navigation.
Reversing Video Input
This smart module can decode video and can be equipped with a rear-view video input. The intelligent module can decode video and facilitate the installation of a rear view camera.
Mirroring
Supports wired and wireless mirroring functions for iPhone and Android phones.
USB Video Playback
Features an automatic media playback function, allowing video and audio media to be played directly from a USB drive.
2. Toggle Switch Setup
2.1 Choose the toggle switch setup by the size of your car's screen
This section guides users to select the correct toggle switch setup based on their car's screen size. It presents a table with Car Models (1 Series, 5 & 7 Series, 3 & 5 Series, 6 Series, X1, X3, X5/X6, Z4) and corresponding screen sizes (6.5 inch, 8.8 & 10.2 inch), illustrated with images of the respective car dashboards and infotainment screens.
2.2 Where to find the toggle (DIP) switches?
The toggle (DIP) switches are located on the CarPlay decoder box. The image shows the decoder box with ports labeled CAN, POWER, USB VIDEO, TOGGLE SWITCH, IN LVDS, OUT LVDS, with the TOGGLE SWITCH port highlighted.
2.3 Set the toggle switch settings according to the size of your car's screen
Two DIP switch setting diagrams are provided: 'for 6.5 inch screen' and 'for 8.8 / 10.2 inch screen'. Each diagram shows 'dial setup 2' and 'Smart Link System' switches (1-8), indicating which switches should be set to 'On' (✓) or 'Off' (✓) for each screen size.
3. Wireless CarPlay Connection Method
Wireless Connection Method:
Step 1: Select 'Bluetooth' on your smartphone.
Step 2: Check the Bluetooth Device name, ensuring it is 'CAR-xxxx'.
Step 3: Turn on Wi-Fi and keep it on, then return to Bluetooth to connect CarPlay.
Step 4: Select the Bluetooth Device name 'CAR-XXX' and pair. A request window will pop up; confirm to use CarPlay.
4. Apple Wireless Screen Mirroring
Step 1: Select 'AirPlay' on your smartphone.
Step 2: Turn on the phone, select the 'Wireless LAN' option. The search bar will show 'CAR-WIFI-XXX'; click the link. The password is 66668888.
Step 3: After successful Wi-Fi connection, return to the phone's main interface, open the shortcut menu, select 'Screen Mirroring', and turn it on.
Step 4: With mobile phone 'Screen Mirroring' turned on, select 'AirPlay' to complete the wireless screen mirroring.
5. Wireless Android Auto Connection Method
Wireless Connection Method:
Step 1: Select 'Bluetooth' on your smartphone.
Step 2: Check the Bluetooth name starting with 'CAR-xxx' in the Bluetooth interface.
Step 3: Click on the Bluetooth name beginning with 'CAR-xxx'. A pairing request will pop up; click 'Pairing'. After successful Bluetooth pairing, follow the Android Auto connect process on screen.
Step 4: Click the Bluetooth name at the beginning of 'CAR-xxx' and click pairing. Turn on the Android Auto app on the mobile phone, and the system will connect automatically.
6. Android Wireless Screen Mirroring
Step 1: Android phone scan and download the Auto Link app using the browser.
Step 2: Switch the WIFI Auto Link to 'ON' in the Settings page.
Step 3: Open the downloaded Auto Link software, search for 'CAR-WIFI-XXXX' and connect, then click 'START NOW' on the phone prompt box.
Step 4: The media sound of AutoLink needs to connect with Bluetooth.
7. Audio Settings
Call Echo Cancellation:
Steps: Navigate to Settings > Audio > AEC Delay, then click the 'Start Auto AEC' button. This will generate a beep. Wait 20 seconds for estimation. If there is an echo during a phone call, use this button for echo correction. When correcting echo:
- Keep quiet in the car.
- Turn the volume to a moderate position, and then click 'Start Auto AEC'.
- Wait 20 seconds for estimation to complete.
8. Kit Contents
8.1 Cables and accessories
The kit includes the following components: CarPlay decoder box, Power cable harness, LVDS cable, WiFi antenna, USB-AV cable, and Mic cable.
8.2 Cable connection chart
This diagram illustrates the overall cable connections. It shows the Head Unit, CarPlay box, and various cables including original LVDS cable, new LVDS cables, MIC, USB cable, CarPlay low CAN, CarPlay high CAN, and AUX. After all cables are connected, users can switch between the original BMW and CarPlay interfaces by long-pressing the 'MENU' button on the iDrive knob.
8.3 LVDS cable connection
1) The ORIGINAL LVDS cable connects from the HEAD UNIT to the 'LVDS IN' port of the CarPlay box.
2) The NEW LVDS cable connects from the 'LVDS OUT' port of the CarPlay box to THE SCREEN.
Note: Connecting the LVDS cables incorrectly will result in a black screen!
8.4 WiFi antenna and USB-AV cable connection
The WiFi antenna connects to the 'WIFI' port on the decoder box. The USB-AV cable connects to the USB and VIDEO ports on the decoder box.
8.6 The CarPlay interface decoder box should be installed in an appropriate space near, or on, the OEM head unit.
The decoder box can be installed either on the OEM head unit or beside the OEM head unit, in an appropriate space.
9. CarPlay Decoder Sound Setup
9.1 Bluetooth settings
If your phone already has a Bluetooth connection to your car, disconnect it before proceeding.
9.2 AUX Connections
There is no need to connect the EXT-AUX cable to your car's AUX port, unless your car is a BMW 3/4 series or a 1/2 series.
9.3 AUX Settings
Before using the CarPlay system, you need to set the sound input on your OEM interface to 'AUX'. Otherwise, the CarPlay / Android Auto system will not produce sound.
9.3.1. On the original BMW System, navigate to the 'Multimedia' menu and click 'External devices'.
9.3.2. Click on 'AUX front' to activate it.
9.3.3. Keep the setting in the original BMW system on 'AUX front'.
9.3.4. Long press the 'MENU' button from the iDrive knob to enter the CarPlay Decoder main interface.
9.3.5 Which steering wheel control buttons work?
The CarPlay interface decoder box supports the voice control button, the telephone button, the next song, previous song buttons, and the volume '+' and '-' buttons. Other buttons are not supported.

Before contacting support, please help by collecting the following information:
- The order ID
- The car model
- The year of the car
- The screen size of the car
- The toggle switch setup
- Pictures about the LVDS cable connection
- The software version (found in the CarPlay decoder menu: navigate to 'Setting', choose 'System Version').
