Thank you for choosing a Jensen product. This owner's manual provides clear and easy-to-follow instructions for your new Jensen receiver, designed to help you maximize your enjoyment.

Precautions

  • Proper Power Supply: Designed for a 12 Volt DC, negative ground battery system (standard in North American vehicles).
  • Disc Mechanism Protection: Avoid inserting foreign objects into the disc slot to prevent malfunction.
  • Authorized Service: Do not attempt to disassemble or adjust; contact a professional for assistance.
  • Moisture Avoidance: Do not expose to rain or moisture to reduce the risk of fire or electric shock.
  • Cleaning: Clean the front of the unit with a slightly damp cloth only. Do not use cleansers.
  • Accessories: Use only recommended accessories to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and interference.
  • Laser Safety: This mobile DVD player is a Class I laser product. Use as instructed. Do not open covers or attempt repair. Refer servicing to qualified personnel.

Disc Notes

Depending on recording status and conditions, some CD-Rs/CD-RWs may not play. For reliable playback, use CD-RWs with speed 1x to 4x (write 1x to 2x) and CD-Rs with speed 1x to 8x (write 1x to 2x). Do not play CD-RWs written more than 5 times. CD-R/RW discs must be finalized to play.

Disc Handling

  • Insert label side up.
  • Do not bend discs.
  • Never touch the underside of the disc.
  • Wipe clean from the center to the edge.
  • Use only round CDs; special shapes may cause malfunction.
  • Do not stick paper or tape on discs.
  • Do not use discs with labels or stickers, or those with sticky residue.
  • Avoid direct sunlight, heat sources, or hot vehicles.

Disc Maintenance

Clean discs with a clean cloth from center outwards. Avoid benzene, thinners, cleaning fluids, anti-static liquids, or solvents.

Installation

It is recommended to have your Jensen JWM40 installed by a reputable RV dealership. Read all instructions before beginning.

Tools and Supplies

  • Four M3x20mm (3/32 x 0.75") screws

Disconnecting the Battery

To prevent a short circuit, turn off the ignition and remove the negative (-) battery cable prior to installation. NOTE: If the JWM40 is installed in a vehicle with an onboard computer, do not disconnect the battery cable, as computer memory may be lost. Use extra caution during installation in such cases.

Selecting the Mounting Location

Select a mounting location, avoiding:

  • Places exposed to heat-radiating appliances.
  • Adjacent to other equipment that radiates heat.
  • Poorly-ventilated or dusty places.
  • Moist or humid locations.

Preparing the Opening

Use the mounting hole diagram (approx. 7.323±0.023 inch width by 3.465±0.023 inch height) to measure and cut a mounting hole. Ensure the area behind the mounting location is clear of wires, fuel, vacuum, or brake lines. Mount the unit using four M3x20mm screws.

Wiring

The wiring diagram shows all connections required for proper operation. WARNING: Insulate any unused speaker wire ends.

Connections

The diagram shows available audio/video connections: AUDIO OUTPUT, AUDIO INPUT, WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR, RCA VIDEO OUTPUT, AM/FM ANTENNA SOCKET.

Basic Operation

Power

Press the POWER button (16) to turn the unit on or enter standby mode. The unit will resume at the last mode (Tuner, Aux, etc.) after turn on.

Volume Control

Rotate the VOL encoder knob clockwise to increase or counter-clockwise to decrease volume. The maximum setting is "40".

Audio Menu Setting

Press the AUDIO button (22) to access audio adjustments. Rotate the VOL/ENTER encoder knob to adjust:

  • BAS: Bass level from "-7" to "+7".
  • TRE: Treble level from "-7" to "+7".
  • BAL: Speaker output balance between "L7" (left) and "R7" (right). "BAL 0" indicates equal balance.
  • FAD: Speaker fade between "R7" (rear) and "F7" (front). "FAD 0" indicates equal balance between front and rear speakers.

System Menu Setting

  1. Press the SETTING button (23) to enter the system menu.
  2. Use SETTING or |<< / >>| buttons (2, 5) to navigate the menu list.
  3. Adjust options with the volume encoder knob within 10 seconds.
  4. Press the ENTER knob button (4) to confirm and exit. The unit exits automatically after 10 seconds of inactivity.

Adjustable items include:

  • Beep On/Off: Toggle audible beeps for button presses. (Note: Beep tone off does not affect alarm clock.)
  • LCD Brightness: Adjust from "BRI 0" (off) to "BRI 9" (brightest).

Loudness

Press the LOUD button (22) to toggle the loudness function on/off.

Mute

Press the MUTE button (3) to silence audio output. Press again to restore the previous volume level.

Liquid Crystal Display (LCD)

The LCD panel (20) displays frequency, time, and activated functions. Adjust brightness using the BRIGHT UP (34) and BRIGHT DOWN (32) buttons.

NOTE: In cold temperatures, the LCD may take longer to illuminate and visibility may decrease temporarily.

Bluetooth Setup

Setting the Bluetooth

  • Bluetooth (On/Off): Choose "Bluetooth On" or "Bluetooth Off".
  • Bluetooth Device: View, lock, unlock, disconnect, connect, or delete paired mobile devices.
  • Bluetooth Pair: Press ENTER knob to automatically pair a device.
  • PRESET Volume (PVOL): Select an automatic turn-on volume.

Reset

Press the RESET button (21) for initial installation, if function buttons do not operate, or if an error symbol appears. Use a ball point pen or similar object.

Auxiliary Input Function

Press the AUX button (14) to toggle between AUX IN1 (front) and AUX IN2 (rear). Connect a portable audio device (3.5mm cable) to the front AUX A/V IN connector (36) or rear AUDIO IN.

Auxiliary Input Connector

The front panel A/V input can connect to external audio/video sources like game players or cameras using a proper A/V cable adapter. RCA audio input is also available via the rear AUX AUDIO INPUT.

USB Interface Connector

Connect a USB mass storage device to connector (19) for playback. The unit powers on automatically and switches to USB mode. Playback resumes where paused. NOTE: USB does not support Apple device playback. It provides up to 1A charging current.

Clock Display

Press the VIEW button (25) to alternate between playback time and clock time.

Clock Setup

Press and hold the HOUR (28) or MINUTE (30) buttons to access clock setup mode. Adjust hours and minutes. The time saves five seconds after the last adjustment.

Sleep Mode

Press the SLEEP button (26) to set an automatic turn-off timer (0, 15, 30, 45, or 60 minutes).

Alarm Setting

Press and hold the ALARM button (24) for 2 seconds. Adjust hour (28) and minute (30). Press ALARM SET or ENTER knob to save. Press ALARM (24) to turn the alarm function on or off.

Remote Sensor

The infrared receiver (18) is located on the upper left of the front panel to receive signals from the remote control.

Speaker Output

Buttons (15, 17) control Zone A and Zone B speaker outputs. SPK A (Zone A) or SPK B (Zone B) will appear on the display.

Tuner Operation

Automatically Store / Preset Scan (AS/PS)

  • Automatically Store: Select a band, then press and hold the AS/PS button (6) for over 3 seconds. The unit scans and stores up to 12 or 18 stations for all bands. Press AS/PS again to stop.
  • Preset Scan: Select a band, then press the AS/PS button to scan stored stations. The unit pauses for 10 seconds at each station. Press AS/PS again to stop scanning.

Select a Band

  1. Press the AM button (7) repeatedly to select AM1 or AM2.
  2. Press the FM button (8) repeatedly to select FM1, FM2, or FM3.

Manual Tuning

Press the >>| or |<< buttons (5, 2) to seek stations up/down step by step.

Auto Seek Tuning

Press and hold the >>| or |<< buttons (5, 2) to automatically seek the next or previous strong station.

Preset Stations

Six numbered preset buttons store and recall stations for each AM and FM band. To store a station, select a band (if needed) and press a preset button (1-6).

Disc Operation

Track Select

Press the >>| or |<< buttons (5, 2) to advance to the previous or next track on the disc. Press and hold for fast forward/reverse. Press the ►|| button (3) to resume normal playback.

Fast Forward/Reverse

Press and hold the >>| or |<< buttons (5, 2) or use the remote's >>/<< buttons. Press the ►|| button (3) to end fast forward/reverse and resume normal playback.

Repeat (RPT)

Press the 4 button (33) during disc play to access repeat functions: RPT ONE (repeat track), RPT ALL (repeat all tracks), or RPT OFF.

Random Shuffle (RDM)

Press the 3x button (31) during disc play to play all tracks in random, shuffled order (RDM ON). Press again to stop random play (RDM OFF).

CD Operation

Inserting a CD

Insert a CD label-side up into the disc slot (11). The disc will begin to play automatically.

Ejecting a CD

Press the EJECT button (13) to stop CD play and eject the CD.

Pausing Playback

Press the ►|| button (3) to suspend or resume disc play.

Stop Playback

Press the 1 button (27) to suspend disc play ("PRE-STOP"). Press ►|| to resume. Press 1 button twice for "STOP".

Remote Control Direct Track Entry

Use the number pad (9) on the remote control. For single digit entries, press the number. For two digit entries, press the 10+ button followed by the last digit (e.g., for track 16, press 10+ then 6).

GOTO Direct Track/Chapter Access

Use the GOTO function to access a track (chapter) directly:

  1. Press the GOTO button (25) on the remote control. The On Screen Display will show the track number highlighted.
  2. Use the number keys on the remote control to enter the 3-digit track number directly (e.g., for track 10, enter "010").
  3. Press the ENTER button (5) to confirm and begin playback.

CD Playback Information

The screen displays folder/file information and track time (remaining/total) during CD playback.

DVD Operation

DVD Title Menu

Press the MENU button (1) to go to the DVD title menu while in DVD mode.

Inserting a Disc

Insert a disc label-side up into the disc slot (11). The disc will begin to play. Press the DISC or USB button (9, 12) to alternate between USB and DVD sources.

Ejecting a DVD

Press the EJECT button (13) to stop DVD play and eject the DVD.

Pausing Playback

Press the ►|| button (3) to suspend or resume disc play.

Stop Playback

Press the 1 button (27) to suspend disc play ("PRE STOP"). Press ►|| to resume. Press 1 button twice for "STOP".

Track Select

Press the >>| or |<< buttons (5, 2) to advance to the next or previous track on the disc.

Enter/Select

While in menu mode, press the ENTER button (4) to select a menu option.

Language Selection

While playing a DVD, press the 6/FOLDER UP button (37) to change the DVD audio language.

Fast Forward/Reverse

Press and hold the >>| or |<< buttons (5, 2) or remote >>/<< buttons. Press the ►|| button (3) to end fast forward/reverse and resume normal playback.

Repeat Chapter/Title

Press the 4 button (33) or RPT button (20) on the remote control multiple times during playback to select repeat options: DVD: RER Chapter, RER Title, RPT ALL, RPT OFF.

DVD Playback Features

The remote control offers features for DVD playback:

  • LANG: Choose alternate audio language, if available.
  • SUBTITLE: Select alternate subtitle language, if available.
  • ANGLE: Select alternate viewing angle, if available.
  • ZOOM: Zoom the picture (ZOOM 2, ZOOM 3, ZOOM 4, ZOOM 1/2, ZOOM 1/3, ZOOM 1/4) or select OFF to return to normal view.

DVD Playback Information

The screen displays DVD playback information, including Title (current/total) and Chapter (current/total).

Use the number pad (9) on the remote. For single digit entries, press the number. For two digit entries, press 10+ then the last digit.

Use the GOTO function to access a track (chapter) directly:

  1. Press the GOTO button (25) on the remote control.

MP3/USB Operation

Connecting a USB mass storage device automatically powers on the unit and switches to digital file playback. Playback resumes where paused. NOTE: Smart phone playback is not supported via USB; use Bluetooth. 1A charging is supported.

MP3 Monitor Display

The screen shows a file list with icons for Audio, Photos, and Video.

Inserting a USB Device

Connect a USB device to connector (19). The LCD displays "LOADING" and "USB". Playback begins. Press the USB button (12) to enter USB playback mode directly. NOTE: MP4 video format is not supported.

Play/Pause

Press the ►|| button (3) to suspend or resume disc play.

Track Select

Press the >>| or |<< buttons (5, 2) to search for the previous/next file. The selected file number appears on the display.

Folder Up/Down

Press and hold the 6/FOLDER UP button (37) to access a higher folder level. Press and hold the 5/FOLDER DOWN button (35) to access a lower folder level.

Repeat (RPT)

Press the 4 button (33) or RPT button (20) on the remote control multiple times for repeat options: RPT 1 (track), RPT DIR (folder), RPT ALL (disc), RPT OFF.

Random Shuffle (RDM)

Press the 3x button (31) during song playback to play all files in random, shuffled order (RDM ON). Press again to stop random play.

Fast Forward/Reverse

Press and hold the >>| or |<< buttons or remote >>/<< buttons. Press the ►|| button (3) to end fast forward/reverse and resume normal playback.

Bluetooth Operation

The JWM40 includes built-in Bluetooth technology for streaming audio playback from Bluetooth-enabled devices.

About Bluetooth Technology

Bluetooth is a short-range wireless radio protocol operating in the 2.4 GHz range, transmitting audio and data at speeds up to 2.1 Mbit/s over a range of up to 10 meters.

Bluetooth Menu Options

NOTE: Some options are available only when the unit is in Bluetooth Audio mode.

Press and hold the BT button (10) to enter menu adjustment mode. Use >>| or |<< buttons (5, 2) or SETTINGS button (23) to access "Bluetooth On/Off". Rotate the volume encoder knob to select BLUETOOTH ON, then press ENTER (12) to turn the function On or Off.

Pairing a Bluetooth Device

Before pairing, consult the owner's manual for your Bluetooth device.

  1. Press the BT button (10) to enter Bluetooth mode.
  2. Press and hold the BT button to start pairing (approx. 120 seconds). The JWM40 will display "PAIR".
  3. On your device's Bluetooth settings, select "JWM40" to connect.
  4. If prompted for a password, enter "0000".

After successful connection, you can listen to audio from your Bluetooth device through the JWM40.

Bluetooth Audio (A2DP)

A2DP music is available for Bluetooth-enabled phones. Press the BT button (10) to enter Bluetooth mode and play songs. "BT PAUSE" will display on the LCD.

Selecting Tracks

During playback, press the >>| or |<< button (5, 2) to play the previous or next track.

Pausing Playback

Press the ►|| button (3) to pause Bluetooth audio playback. "BT PAUSE" will appear on the LCD. Press ►|| again to resume playback. Changing modes pauses playback. Press the BT button (10) to return to Bluetooth mode and resume playback. NOTE: If a Bluetooth device disconnects due to power off or out of range, the unit will automatically search for the device when power is restored.

DVD Settings

Press the (setup) button (10) on the remote control to access the Settings menu and adjust system settings:

  • Audio Language: English, Chinese, Japanese, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Latin, or German.
  • Subtitle Language: On/Off.
  • Menu Language: English, Chinese, Japanese, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Latin, or German.
  • Password: 4-digit password.
  • Rating: Select parental control level (Kid Safe > Adult). Security password required for changes.
  • Aspect Ratio: 4:3 PS, 4:3 LB, 16:9.

Care and Maintenance

  • Keep the product dry. Wipe immediately if it gets wet.
  • Keep away from dust and dirt, which can cause premature wear.
  • Handle the product gently and carefully. Dropping it can damage components.
  • Wipe with a dampened cloth occasionally. Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong detergents.
  • Use and store the product only in normal temperature environments. High temperatures can shorten the life of electronic devices and damage parts.

Ignition Noise

Ignition systems are a common source of reception noise, varying with engine speed. Use radio suppression type high voltage ignition wire and suppressor resistors for suppression.

Interference

Radio reception in moving environments differs from stationary ones. AM reception can be affected by bridges or high voltage lines but has better long-distance reception.

Troubleshooting
