Overview

The Kahuna Release Notes include lists of new features and enhancements, bug fixes, as well as known issues and limitations associated with the latest version of the Kahuna software.

Kahuna Software Version 9.7 Release 1 is a major release that adds many new features to Kahuna. This release also includes bug fixes that were resolved to improve the product.

The following is a list of Kahuna features and enhancements. The most recent items are marked with a star (⭐) symbol.

9.7 Release 1

This release adds the following enhancement(s) and corrects the following issue(s) that are separated out as follows:

New Features and Enhancements

  • ⭐ New K-Manager Pro option to run stand-alone on a PC rather than as a shared service. This can be used when there are certain local IT restrictions for running Windows Services. In this mode, the Watch and Mirror instances would only run when the KMP application is running. Select required mode during installation on PC.
  • ⭐ K-Manager Pro: The Clip Preview Player can now upload directly into Store RAM.

Bugs Fixed

  • ⭐ Resource Link, Substitution Tables can now incorporate a cut delay.
  • ⭐ Substitution table copy/paste function added along with the ability to change the "Crosspoint Link" settings for large blocks of Crosspoints.
  • ⭐ ME based HDR/WCG settings now have their own Enable in User Config files. (Note: Existing User Config files will still recall the saved HDR/WCG settings, but the Enable will be inoperable on old files.)
  • ⭐ Enabled access to Ross Talk protocol.
  • ⭐ Double-clicking a value field on the external GUI Menu will bring up the pop-up to change the setting.
  • ⭐ On IP fins, the RTP payload settings can now be set in RollCall.
  • ⭐ IP fin software updated to version 17.3.
  • ⭐ Panel warning message now shows when the selected Fixed LUT conversion file is missing or corrupted.
  • ⭐ Menu tracking added to MSP Soft Panel.
  • Local Trans on Keyers when using primary and secondary transitions could trigger unwanted change of key state. (Note: Only one Local Transition is possible per keyer at any moment. If two are triggered, the second transition will be queued and will happen once the first has completed.)
  • Multiviewer time-of-day clock display could fail to update on some M/V heads. To use this feature delete all text from a Tile's Title field and turn on the Title. The clock can be positioned outside tile area.
  • Button Maps Edit menu now shows user entered names instead of input names which could be confusing when using Tie-Line inputs.
  • Fade-to-Black panel button not flashing when FTB is active.
  • Incorrect enables indication on MSP.
  • Crosspoint buttons showed unshifted source colours when latched in Shift-Mode.
  • Format Fusion Pan settings could be wrong on sources upscaled to UHD.
  • Store file "Save frame to Icon" function exceedingly slow to operate.
  • .mov files with embedded alpha channels converted using K-Manager Pro could exhibit key level discrepancies.
  • ATM User Function modules could show incorrect ME display on DMEM pages.
  • Switcher States saved on MSP could be incorrectly time-stamped.
  • HDR conversion Lift & Gain settings still operable when using a Fixed LUT conversion.
  • Macro Editor unable to change the clip on some replay peripherals.
  • IP fins could report erroneous loss of reference.
  • MSP User Function cut & paste does not work.
  • MSP Misc file import/export does not work.
  • Sources on the ME busses menu do not display correctly on MAV GUI.

9.6 Release 5

This release adds the following enhancement(s) and corrects the following issue(s) that are separated out as follows:

New Features and Enhancements

  • It is now possible to resize and reposition ME & DVE feeds in Output Format Fusion (Menu 8773). (Note: This will add 2 fields (2 frames of 50-60 fps or 1 frame for slower progressive standards) of additional delay. There will be no extra delay if there is no zoom or pan applied.)

Bugs Fixed

  • Macro Creator tool could fail to show the correct files for the selected project when inserting file load actions.
  • Some Knob titles were missing from the Panel GUI popups.
  • Input list popups on the Panel GUI: Sources could appear in the incorrect sub-groups on certain Switcher configurations.

9.6 Release 4

Bugs Fixed

  • KMP: When converting content with a key channel, any chroma data is now removed from the key channel.
  • When Key Layer Resize is used in Dual Tile mode, the second tile could fail to apply the correct HDR conversion.
  • KMP-Pro: Creating a clip from a sequence of stills could fail to embed associated audio file.
  • Second GUI could show erroneous "incorrect password" error when logging in.
  • Cloning certain pop-up menus on MAV GUI could cause unresponsive behaviour.
  • Incorrect enables indication on Load/Save pad.
  • IPO Stream Sync settings not saved in Eng Config.

9.6 Release 3

This release adds the following enhancement(s) and corrects the following issue(s) that are separated out as follows:

New Features and Enhancements

  • Added 256 more virtual GPIs to connect macros to and 256 more virtual GPOs to trigger them from. Giving a total of 512 GPIs and GPOs.

Bugs Fixed

  • The Rolling Switcher State popup could fail to display the files correctly.

9.6 Release 2

This release adds the following enhancement(s) and corrects the following issue(s) that are separated out as follows:

New Features and Enhancements

  • K-Manager Pro, Watch now converts ProRes444 HDR clips to Kahuna Store format.
  • "Active LUT" entries added to Input and Output HDR tables to show if a 3D LUT conversion is active (Menus 8768 & 8778).
  • K-Manager Pro, Clip Preview now plays and trims Kahuna .SWS files with audio.

Bugs Fixed

  • Kahuna Manager Pro, Watch services could continue even when paused.
  • Changes to Audio Packet timing & Channels on IP fins not reflected in Rollcall.
  • Some Stream-Sync Settings on IP fins not being saved in Eng Config (when enabled).
  • Outputs on IPO fins running Single Stream 12G UHD firmware could not be set to downconvert UHD to HD in some fin slot positions.
  • Some Network settings inoperable in K-Manager Pro.
  • Clip-Wipe transitions could glitch on Mainframes without a Format Fusion license.

9.6 Release 1

New Features and Enhancements

  • MSP updated to version 4.1 incorporating an expanded new-look K-Manager Pro which now includes a Clip player giving a function to trim clips and forward them to a K-Watch service for conversion and direct uploading to a Mainframe (where licensed).
  • MSP 4.1 also includes a new HDR LUT feature which translates .cube LUT files and uploads them to a Kahuna mainframe for HDR / SDR conversions using pre-defined LUTs (where licensed).
  • Panel Operating System update.
  • On User Function Pads set to the ME or DVE NumPad page type, double hitting the Page Delegate button will bring up an Enables & Effects Dissolve popup on the external GUI to allow the user to set Enables & Effects Dissolves when saving DMEMs or DVE Mems on the NumPad single-push save feature.
  • MAV fader modules can now be used on a Panel in AMPP control mode.
  • MSP now creates unique Panel name based on PC and User names. It is still possible to rename an MSP panel (logged off menu 02) and MSP panels which have already been given a name will retain their names.
  • MSP now supports multiple IP addresses on network interfaces.
  • Improvements to Visca camera control menus, giving easier control of Multi Visca Camera setups plus more control of camera parameters.
  • Visca control menu can now set the Video Standard of GRASS VALLEY PTZ 35X HD cameras.
  • Kahuna rear Reference fins can now output “Slow” Tri-Level syncs locked to the Kahuna timing.
  • On a Kula Panel, it is now possible to clone the current Joystick delegation and attach it to a panel button.

Bugs Fixed

  • When performing an HDR/SDR conversion from input to output, some adjustments did not work.
  • Kahuna menus could fail to set flow types on IPI and IPO spigots.
  • On systems configured to save IP fin data in Eng Config, some parameters did not reacall correctly, especially when a system uses a default Eng Config on power up.
  • Macro Edit page was unable to display or edit Macros containing User Defined Protocol commands. For new Macros created using the Macro Creator tool, this is now possible. Older Macros, or those recorded using the Peripheral Menu pages do not have this fix.
  • On MSP Soft Panel, in some video standards, or if the time was below 1sec, the transition durations could occasionally be displayed incorrectly.
  • Users with limited Project Access could be unable to Copy and Paste Keyer settings.
  • Saving a Button Map file could corrupt Button Maps on Unclustered Panels connected to the same Mainframe.
  • IP Aux Panels could fail to load Macro & Clone attachments at login.

9.5 Release 4

Bugs Fixed

  • If a panel network connection needed to failover to a redundant ethernet connection, the panel could lose the Gateway.
  • Unable to change Button Colour settings from external GUI.
  • Menu 10: Event T/L Enable pop-up could sometimes fail to show buttons.

New Features and Enhancements

  • Support added for ELO 1502L-2UWC-1-G Touch Screen.
  • If a Panel has previously been running Kula or Masterpiece software, a new system now added on logged-off Menu 08 allows switching between different products or the previous version of Kahuna software. (Note: If a previous version does not have this feature you will not be able to change back.)

Bugs Fixed

  • In certain circumstances you could experience a problem logging in due to spurious "Upgrade in Progress" message.
  • Macro Cache did not work and deleted a Macro and then re-created a new file that would lose the attachment on a panel.
  • Clip-Wipe feature required reboot following a Power Cycle.

9.5 Release 2

This release adds the following enhancement(s) and corrects the following issue(s) that are separated out as follows:

New Features and Enhancements

  • Multiple audio channel support added to IPO50 and IPI50 fins allowing spigots to be configured in either 1x16 channels, 2x8 channels or 4x4 channels. IPIs in 2 or 4 flow mode can subscribe to more than one audio sender. Input and Output channels can be shuffled in any order on each spigot.
  • Kahuna Input and Output spigot names can now be read by NMOS devices.
  • Automatic failover when NMOS enabled on primary and secondary media ports.
  • K-Manager Pro now supports Backup and Restore.
  • The panel's Log Off button location can now be configured from menu 8730, so that it can be present in the Home menu (1) tree or only in the Defaults menu (80). This setting is stored locally within the panel and then applies to any mainframe the panel logs into.

Bugs Fixed

  • The RTC battery drained faster than expected with the updated version of the RTC chip.
  • Super Keyers corrupted video at bottom of frame in <25Hz frame rates.
  • Buttons Maps cleared and User Function attachments lost when making MAV layout changes.

New Features and Enhancements

  • The Current Action field was added to K-Manager Pro Status.
  • GUI now gives a warning to show if IP Mav modules require an update. Go to menu 8871 to update an IP Mav module.
  • Overall Lock was added to MAV Layout enable in Panel Config to avoid MAV Layout changes when loading Panel Configs, following layout changes.
  • K-Manager Pro now supports multiple project uploads.
  • MSP now allows Macro and Clone attachment to crosspoint buses on the virtual panel.
  • New AMPP Control mode on Panels and Mav Remote units to allow Mav modules to be connected as IP Mavs.
  • Master Return Path Gateway was added to Panels.

Bugs Fixed

  • Panel Link Latency control now not saved in Panel Config.
  • Button Info buttons not working on MSP.
  • Clones & Macro attachments on IP Aux Panels sometimes fail to reload.
  • Redundant Mainframe failed to sync all files when 'On Connection' selected.
