1-3 Installing the CPU
Follow these guidelines for CPU installation:
- Ensure motherboard compatibility with the CPU (check GIGABYTE website).
- Turn off the computer and unplug the power cord before installation.
- Locate the CPU's pin one or alignment notches and match them with the CPU socket's keys. The CPU cannot be inserted if oriented incorrectly.
- Apply an even, thin layer of thermal grease on the CPU surface.
- Do not turn on the computer without a CPU cooler installed to prevent overheating and damage.
- Set the CPU host frequency according to CPU specifications. Avoid setting it beyond hardware specifications.
CPU Socket and CPU Alignment: The LGA1151 CPU socket has alignment keys. The LGA1151 CPU has corresponding notches. Align these keys and notches to correctly insert the CPU. The CPU socket cover may pop off automatically when the lever is re-engaged after CPU insertion.
1-4 Installing the Memory
Follow these guidelines for memory installation:
- Ensure motherboard compatibility with the memory (check GIGABYTE website for supported speeds and modules). It is recommended to use memory modules of the same capacity, brand, speed, and chips.
- Turn off the computer and unplug the power cord before installation.
- Memory modules have a foolproof design; they can only be installed in one direction. If insertion is difficult, try reversing the module's orientation.
Dual Channel Memory Configuration: This motherboard has two memory sockets (DDR4_1 and DDR4_2) supporting Dual Channel Technology. Installing two memory modules in the correct slots enables Dual Channel mode, doubling memory bandwidth. For Dual Channel mode with two modules, it is recommended they be identical in capacity, brand, speed, and chips.
