2-3 Installing the CPU
Guidelines:
- Ensure CPU compatibility with the motherboard (check GIGABYTE's website).
- ⚠️ Always turn off the computer and unplug the power cord before installation.
- Locate the CPU's pin one (small triangle) for correct orientation; it cannot be inserted if oriented incorrectly.
- Apply an even, thin layer of thermal grease on the CPU surface.
- ⚠️ Do not turn on the computer without a CPU cooler installed to prevent overheating and damage.
- Set CPU host frequency according to specifications; avoid exceeding hardware limits to ensure peripheral compatibility.
Installation Steps:
- Locate pin one on the CPU socket and the CPU (marked by a small triangle).
- Completely lift the CPU socket locking lever.
- Align the CPU's pin one with the socket's pin one and gently place the CPU into the socket.
- ⚠️ Do not force the CPU into the socket if the locking lever is not lifted; this can damage the CPU and socket.
2-4 Installing the Memory
Guidelines:
- Ensure memory compatibility (capacity, brand, speed, chips). Refer to GIGABYTE's website for supported modules.
- ⚠️ Always turn off the computer and unplug the power cord before installing memory.
- Memory modules have a foolproof design; if insertion is difficult, try rotating the module 180 degrees.
Dual Channel Memory Configuration:
The motherboard supports Dual Channel Technology with four memory sockets divided into two channels (Channel A: DDR4_2, DDR4_4; Channel B: DDR4_1, DDR4_3). Enabling Dual Channel mode doubles memory bandwidth. For optimal performance, use memory modules of the same capacity, brand, speed, and chips. For two modules, install them in DDR4_1 and DDR4_2 sockets.
Recommended Dual Channel Memory Configuration:
Configuration | DDR4_4 | DDR4_2 | DDR4_3 | DDR4_1 |
---|---|---|---|---|
2 Modules | DS/SS | DS/SS | - - | DS/SS |
4 Modules | DS/SS | DS/SS | DS/SS | DS/SS |
(SS=Single-Sided, DS=Double-Sided, "- -"=No Memory)
Dual Channel mode requires at least two memory modules. For optimum performance with two modules, install them in DDR4_1 and DDR4_2 sockets.
2-5 Installing an Expansion Card
Guidelines:
- Ensure the expansion card is compatible with the motherboard. Refer to the card's manual.
- ⚠️ Always turn off the computer and unplug the power cord before installing an expansion card.
