Identifying Your Motherboard Revision

The revision number on your motherboard looks like this: "REV: X.X." For example, "REV: 1.0" means the revision of the motherboard is 1.0. Check your motherboard revision before updating motherboard BIOS, drivers, or when looking for technical information.

2-3 Installing the CPU

Guidelines for CPU installation:

Installation Steps:

  1. Lift the CPU socket locking lever.
  2. Locate the pin one on the CPU socket and the CPU (marked by a small triangle).
  3. Position the CPU into the socket, ensuring correct orientation.
  4. Gently press down on the CPU and lower the locking lever to secure it.

Warning: Do not force the CPU into the socket if the locking lever is not lifted.

2-4 Installing the Memory

Guidelines for memory installation:

Dual Channel Memory Configuration:

This motherboard supports Dual Channel Technology, which doubles memory bandwidth. The four memory sockets are divided into two channels (Channel A: DDR4_A1, DDR4_A2; Channel B: DDR4_B1, DDR4_B2).

Note on Dual Channel Mode:

Recommendation: When installing a single memory module, install it in the DDR4_A2 or DDR4_B2 socket.

2-5 Installing an Expansion Card

Guidelines for installing an expansion card:

Installation Steps:

  1. Locate an expansion slot and remove the corresponding chassis back panel slot cover.
  2. Align the card with the slot and press down until it is fully seated.
  3. Secure the card's metal bracket to the chassis back panel with a screw.
  4. Replace the chassis cover(s).
  5. Turn on the computer and configure BIOS Setup if necessary.
  6. Install the driver provided with the expansion card.

2-6 Back Panel Connectors

Important Note: When removing cables from back panel connectors, first remove the cable from the device, then from the motherboard. Pull cables straight out to prevent damage.

Guidelines before connecting external devices:

1/2) ATX_12V/ATX (2x4 12V Power Connector and 2x12 Main Power Connector)

Description of the ATX 12V and ATX power connectors, including pin definitions. Recommends a power supply of 500W or greater for expansion requirements.

3/4) CPU_FAN/SYS_FAN1/SYS_FAN2 (Fan Headers)

Description of the 4-pin fan headers. Supports CPU fan speed control. Recommends installing a system fan for optimum heat dissipation.

Important Note: Connect fan cables correctly to prevent CPU or system overheating. Do not place jumper caps on fan headers.

5) D_LED1/D_LED2 (Addressable LED Strip Headers)

Headers for connecting standard 5050 addressable LED strips (5V, max 1000 LEDs). Specifies power rating and connection details.

6) LED_CPU (CPU Cooler LED Strip/RGB LED Strip Header)

Header for connecting CPU cooler LED strips or 5050 RGB LED strips (12V/G/R/B, max 2A, 2m). Specifies power rating and connection details.

7) LED_C1/LED_C2 (RGB LED Strip Headers)

Headers for connecting standard 5050 RGB LED strips (12V/G/R/B, max 2A, 2m). Specifies power rating and connection details.

8) SATA3 0/1/2/3 (SATA 6Gb/s Connectors)

Description of SATA 6Gb/s connectors, compatible with SATA 3Gb/s and 1.5Gb/s. Supports RAID 0, RAID 1, and RAID 10. Refer to Chapter 3 for RAID configuration.

9) M2A_CPU/M2B_SB (M.2 Socket 3 Connectors)

Description of M.2 connectors supporting M.2 SATA SSDs or M.2 PCIe SSDs and RAID configuration. Notes that M.2 PCIe SSD cannot be used in a RAID set with SATA SSD or HDD. Refer to GIGABYTE's website for RAID configuration instructions.

Installation Steps for M.2 SSD:

  1. Install the mounting clip.
  2. Slide the M.2 SSD into the connector at an angle.
  3. Secure the M.2 SSD by pressing the clip's tab into the mounting hole.

10) BAT (Battery)

Provides power to CMOS for BIOS settings when the computer is off. Instructions for clearing CMOS values by removing the battery.

Warning: Always turn off the computer and unplug the power cord before replacing the battery. Replace with an equivalent battery. Consult place of purchase or local dealer if unsure.

Note the positive and negative terminals when installing the battery. Handle used batteries according to local environmental regulations.

11) F_AUDIO (Front Panel Audio Header)

Header for connecting the chassis front panel audio module. Emphasizes matching wire assignments to motherboard header pin assignments to prevent damage.

If the chassis has separated connectors, contact the chassis manufacturer for information.

12) F_PANEL (Front Panel Header)

Connects power switch, reset switch, speaker, chassis intrusion switch/sensor, and system status indicator. Notes positive and negative pins.

PLED/PWR_LED (Power LED): Indicates system status (On when operating, Off in sleep/off states).

PW (Power Switch): Connects to the chassis power switch. Configuration options available in BIOS Setup.

SPEAK (Speaker): Connects to the chassis speaker for system startup beep codes.

HD (Hard Drive Activity LED): Indicates hard drive activity.

RES (Reset Switch): For restarting the computer if it freezes.

CI (Chassis Intrusion Header): Connects to chassis intrusion switch/sensor.

NC: No connection.

13) F_U32 (USB 3.1 Gen 1 Header)

Conforms to USB 3.2 Gen 1 and USB 2.0 specifications. Provides two USB ports. Contact local dealer for optional 3.5" front panel.

14) F_USB1 (USB 2.0/1.1 Header)

Conforms to USB 2.0/1.1 specification. Provides two USB ports via an optional USB bracket. Contact local dealer for optional USB bracket.

Warning: Turn off computer and unplug power cord before installing USB bracket.

15) COM (Serial Port Header)

Provides one serial port via an optional COM port cable. Contact local dealer for cable purchase.

16) TPM (Trusted Platform Module Header)

For connecting a TPM module.

17) CLR_CMOS (Clear CMOS Jumper)

Clears BIOS configuration and resets CMOS values to factory defaults. Can be done by shorting the two pins with a metal object.

Warning: Always turn off computer before clearing CMOS values. Load optimized defaults or manually configure BIOS settings after restart.

18) QFLASH_PLUS (Q-Flash Plus Button)

Allows BIOS update when the system is off. Save BIOS to a USB drive, plug into Q-Flash Plus port, and press the button. QFLED indicates flashing status.

Chapter 3 BIOS Setup

BIOS Overview: The BIOS (Basic Input and Output System) records hardware parameters in the CMOS. Its functions include POST, saving system parameters, and loading the operating system. The BIOS Setup program allows modification of basic system configuration settings.

The motherboard battery supplies power to the CMOS when the computer is off.

Accessing BIOS Setup: Press the <Delete> key during POST.

Upgrading BIOS: Use GIGABYTE Q-Flash or @BIOS utility.

For instructions on Q-Flash and @BIOS, refer to the "Unique Features" page on GIGABYTE's website and search for "BIOS Update Utilities."

Warning: BIOS flashing is risky. Only flash the BIOS if necessary. Inadequate flashing may cause system malfunction. Avoid altering default settings unless required, as it may lead to system instability or boot failure. If issues occur, clear CMOS values and reset to defaults.

Chapter 4 Installing the Operating System and Drivers

4-1 Operating System Installation

With correct BIOS settings, you are ready to install the operating system. Some operating systems include RAID drivers, eliminating the need for separate installation during Windows setup. After OS installation, install drivers from GIGABYTE APP Center for optimal performance and compatibility.

Installing RAID Driver (if required):

  1. Go to GIGABYTE's website, download the AMD RAID Preinstall Driver from the Support\Download\SATA RAID/AHCI page.
  2. Unzip the file and copy the files to a USB thumb drive.
  3. Boot from the Windows setup disc and follow OS installation steps.
  4. When prompted to load a driver, select Browse.
  5. Insert the USB thumb drive, browse to the driver location, select "AMD-RAID Bottom Device", click Next.
  6. Then select "AMD-RAID Controller" and click Next.
  7. Continue the OS installation.

4-2 Drivers Installation

After OS installation, a dialog box may appear asking to download and install drivers and GIGABYTE applications via APP Center. Click Install to proceed. Ensure "APP Center Download & Install Configuration" is enabled in BIOS Setup.

Accept the End User License Agreement to install APP Center. Select desired drivers and applications in APP Center and click Install.
