Advanced Product Features
100% Jam Proof System
Eliminates paper jams and powers through tough jobs. The system electronically measures paper thickness to prevent jams:
- Up to RED: Too many sheets inserted.
- Up to YELLOW: Productivity is optimized.
- Up to GREEN: More sheets can be added.
If a misfeed occurs, all indicators light up, and the shredder pauses for 3-6 seconds. Remove sheets until the indicator is below red. Continue shredding.
SafeSense® Technology
Automatically stops shredding when hands touch the paper opening. The SafeSense® indicator illuminates.
Auto Oil™ Operation (425Ci and 485Ci models only)
Automatically oils the cutters to enhance performance and extend shredder life.
Energy Saving System
Reduces energy consumption by up to 70% compared to conventional shredders during normal usage.
Sleep Mode Operation
The energy-saving feature shuts down the shredder after 2 minutes of inactivity. To exit sleep mode, touch the control panel.
Product Maintenance
Cleaning Auto-Start Infrared Sensors
Sensors may become blocked by paper dust. To clean:
- Turn off and unplug the shredder.
- Lift the CD flap.
- Locate the Auto-start infrared sensor.
- Dip a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol.
- Wipe away contamination from the paper sensors.
Auto Oil™ Refilling (425Ci and 485Ci models)
The low oil indicator will signal when refilling is needed.
- Fill the oil reservoir with up to 12 oz. (355 ml) of Fellowes shredder oil (e.g., #35250).
- Once refilled, automatic oiling will resume.
Note: All cross-cut shredders require oil for peak performance. Failure to oil may result in diminished sheet capacity, intrusive noise, or the machine stopping.
Shipping: If shipping the shredder, drain the oil reservoir. Open the cabinet door, remove the basket, place a container under the drain plug, remove the plug, let oil drain, and replace the plug.
Troubleshooting
- Low Oil Indicator: Refill oil. Use Fellowes oil (35250).
- Bin Full Indicator: Empty the waste bin. Use Fellowes waste bag 3605801.
- SafeSense® Indicator: Hands are too close. If active for 3 seconds, press the power button to resume.
- Remove Paper Indicator: Press Reverse (◄◄), remove paper, reduce quantity, and refeed.
- Door Open Indicator: Close the cabinet door.
- Straight Feed Indicator: Remove paper and feed straight into the entry.
Disabling SafeSense® Feature
- Press and hold the Auto and Reverse (◄◄) buttons simultaneously. The blue Auto light will no longer be illuminated.
- To re-engage, repeat step 1.
Note: Shredding can continue without SafeSense®, but jams may occur more easily. If a jam occurs, press and hold Forward (►) until the document is through. If the jam persists, use Reverse (◄◄) briefly. If still unresolved, reverse all the way out, remove several sheets, and refeed.
