Examples of Operation

The following text captures illustrate the 970A-1's operation, with line-by-line commentary.

Power-On Sequence

<power applied unit boots>
970A-1 Serial Interface unit Polling System Please Standby...

Commentary: Prints ID message on boot and begins polling the attached system.

Product Groups = 8

Commentary: After several seconds, shows the number of product groups.

Product Group Identification

E00:00-E00:07 E01:00-E01:03 E02:00-E02:03 S02:00-S02:15 E03:00-E03:03 S03:00-S03:07 E04:00-E04:03 S04:00-S04:07

Commentary: Prints a table showing valid ranges for products in each group. Groups addresses begin with "E" for Electronic modules or "S" for Speaker modules. Two digits follow for the group address (set by rotary switch), and two digits after the colon indicate the product number within that group.

Selecting Products

>+E00:00

Commentary: The first line indicates electronic group 0 is present and contains 8 products (E00:00 to E00:07). The "+" before the address requests selection of product E00:00. The command was entered from the serial port and echoed by the unit, followed by a carriage return.

> E00:00+

Commentary: This message is received from the system, confirming the request. Messages ending with "+" or "-" are status messages indicating selection or deselection, which can result from a 970A-1 command, PSB press, or control panel input.

Deselecting Products

>-E00:00
> E00:00-

Commentary: This command with "-" before the address deselects product E00:00. The output confirms the command, showing "-" on the right side.

Deselect Example (Electronic Groups)

Electronic groups allow only one product selection at a time.

>+E00:00
> E00:00+

Commentary: Turn on E00:00. Confirmed.

>+E00:01
> E00:00-
> E00:01+

Commentary: Turn on E00:01 as well. E00:00 disengages prior to E00:01 engaging.

Speaker Add Example

Speaker groups can connect up to 4 products simultaneously. Adding a fifth product causes the oldest selected product to disconnect.

>+S02:00
> S02:00+

Commentary: Add S02:00. Confirmed. S02:00 on.

>+S02:01
> S02:01+

Commentary: Add S02:01. Confirmed. S02:00, S02:01 on.

>+S02:02
> S02:02+

Commentary: Add S02:02. Confirmed. S02:00, S02:01, S02:02 on.

>+S02:03

Commentary: Add S04:00 (a fifth product). S02:00 disengages to make room prior to S02:04 engaging.

Disconnect All

>DISCALL

Commentary: The 'DISCALL' command disconnects all products.

> S02:04-
> S02:03-
> S02:02-
> S02:01-
> E00:01-

Commentary: Shows individual disengagements after a DISCALL command.

Disable/Enable All

>DISABLE ALL

Commentary: DISABLE ALL locks out all product select buttons and prevents the 970 from accessing products.

>ENABLE ALL

Commentary: ENABLE ALL turns all product select buttons back on.

Bus Monitoring

The following messages were generated by user button presses on the display:

> S03:00+

Commentary: Speaker group 3, product 0 selected by button. Similar status message as a command, but no command was sent.

> S03:00-
> S03:01+

Commentary: Speaker group S03:01 was pressed, causing S03:00 to disconnect and S03:01 to connect. Speaker modules typically allow only one product selection at a time, similar to electronic modules. Multiple products can be selected by pressing and holding a button for over 1/2 second.

> S03:01-
> S03:02+

Commentary: S03:02 pressed briefly, disconnecting the currently selected product before adding it.

>S05:01+

Commentary: Speaker Group 5, product 1 selected via push button attached to module.

Valid groups and product numbers include:

Currently selected units may be E02:01, S05:00.

KEYUP xxx Key press
KEYDN xxx Key release

Commentary: Status messages for switch reporting. 'xxx' is a 3-digit number in the range 001-120.
