Model 1816-1 Serial Distributor

The Audio Authority® 1816-1 RS-232 Distributor provides a method to broadcast RS-232 serial commands. Each 1816-1 unit sends serial commands to up to six individual serial devices.

Ports and Connectivity

USB Port

The Model 1816-1 receives serial commands via its USB MINI-B port.

RS-232 Ports

RS-232 ports connect using 3.5mm cables (straight). The Model 1816-1 receives RS-232 commands on its input side and simultaneously echoes the incoming data to 6 output channels. Port 1 is specifically capable of receiving feedback from a connected sink device and passing that data back to the source.

Installation

Follow these steps for installation:

  1. Attach the 1816-1 module to a flat surface using the provided screws.
  2. Connect a Mini-B cable from the 1816-1 USB port to the source device, such as a BrightSign media player. Ensure strain relief is used.
  3. Connect 3.5mm cables from the numbered (1-6) distribution ports to the RS-232 ports on the sink devices.

1816-1 Example System

This section describes a typical setup where a BrightSign media player sends commands via USB 2.0A to the 1816-1's USB MINI-B port, and receives feedback from position 1.
