HOBO® Pro v2 Logger (U23-00x) Quick Start
Step 1: Open HOBOware Software
Open HOBOware® software. Obtain the latest version from www.onsetcomp.com/hoboware-free-download.
Step 2: Connect Base Station or Shuttle
Attach the USB Optic Base Station (BASE-U-4) or HOBO Waterproof Shuttle (U-DTW-1) to a USB port on your computer. Refer to the hardware manual for detailed instructions at www.onsetcomp.com/support/manuals.
Step 3: Attach Coupler and Logger
Attach the coupler (COUPLER2-E) to the base station or shuttle. Insert the logger into the coupler, aligning the ridge on the logger with the ridge on the coupler. If using the HOBO Waterproof Shuttle, ensure it is connected to the computer's USB port. Briefly press the coupler lever to engage the shuttle's base station mode. Hardware detection may take a few seconds.
Diagram Description: The diagram illustrates the HOBO Pro v2 Logger and the COUPLER. The logger is shown with its communication LEDs and sensors. The COUPLER has an alignment ridge designed to mate with a corresponding ridge on the logger. The connection is shown to a base station or HOBO Waterproof Shuttle.
Step 4: Launch Logger
In HOBOware, navigate to the Device menu, select Launch, choose your logging options, and click Start. Logging will commence according to your selected settings.
Step 5: Deploy the Logger
When mounting the logger, ensure the cable is not pulled taut. Create a drip loop of approximately 5 cm (2 inches) where the cable exits the logger housing to prevent water from entering.
A solar radiation shield is recommended if the logger or its sensors will be exposed to sunlight at any time. For loggers deployed in sunlight, slide the included protective cap over the logger's communication window to shield it from UV light.
Diagram Description: The diagram shows the logger with a UV Protective Cap covering its communication window. A cable extends from the logger, forming a "Drip Loop" near the housing to prevent water ingress.
Use the provided clamp to mount the logger to a surface. The communication window should face upwards or sideways to prevent condensation from pooling on the sensor or cable grommet.
Diagram Description: The diagram shows the logger mounted using a clamp. It specifies that the U23-001 or U23-001A logger must be mounted horizontally, even when placed inside a solar radiation shield.
Diagram Description: The diagram illustrates the external sensor for a U23-002 or U23-002A logger. This sensor must be mounted vertically, and if used within a solar radiation shield, it should be positioned as shown.
Diagram Description: The diagram depicts a stack of layered components, representing a solar radiation shield designed to protect the logger and sensors from direct sunlight and weather.
If the sensor cable is vulnerable to chewing rodents or other hazards, protect it within conduit. For comprehensive deployment and maintenance guidelines, consult the manual at www.onsetcomp.com/support/manuals/10694-man-u23.
Step 6: Read Out Logger Data
To retrieve data, remove the logger from its deployment location. Follow steps 1-3, then select "Read Out" from the Device menu in HOBOware, or use the Waterproof Shuttle. For detailed instructions on reading out and viewing data, refer to the HOBOware Help documentation.
