General Information
For driving, the vehicle manufacturer's specifications regarding trailer load and nose weight are decisive. The values specified for the towing hitch must not be exceeded.
The towing hitch is designed for towing trailers equipped with ball couplings and for use with load carriers approved for attachment to the towing hitch. Any other use is prohibited. Operation must be adapted to road conditions. The vehicle's handling characteristics change when a trailer is towed; consult the vehicle manufacturer's operating instructions.
The standard mounting points approved by the vehicle manufacturer are used. National guidelines concerning official approval of installations must be observed. These installation and operating instructions must be enclosed with the vehicle papers.
Installation Instructions
The towing hitch is a safety component and must only be installed by qualified personnel. Any alteration or conversion to the towing hitch is prohibited and will lead to the cancellation of the operating permit.
Remove any insulating compound or underseal from the vehicle in the area of the towing hitch's mating surfaces. Seal any bare bodywork and bores with anti-corrosive paint.
Operating Instructions
After approximately 1000 trailer kilometers, retighten all securing bolts of the towing hitch with the specified tightening torques.
The coupling ball must be kept clean and greased. However, if stabilization devices like the Westfalia "SSK" are used, the coupling ball must be free from grease. Follow the instructions in the respective operating manuals.
If the coupling ball diameter reaches 49.0 mm or less at any point, the towing hitch must no longer be used for safety reasons.
The empty weight of the vehicle increases by 18 kg after the towing hitch is fitted.
