The Company, aiming to "realize a peaceful society where all children in the world can live fulfilling lives through music," has been promoting the "School Project" in emerging countries since 2015. This project collaborates with government education institutions to support curriculum development, train instructors, and provide teaching materials and instruments, thereby promoting music education in public schools. To date, the project has reached a cumulative total of 4.25 million children in 10 countries, including Egypt, Colombia, the Philippines, and Mexico.
In Egypt, music education using recorders has been piloted for 2,800 students in 50 "Egypt-Japan Schools" since November 2021. Yamaha is focusing on instrumental music, alongside singing, listening, and music creation programs. To align with Egypt's educational goals of fostering disciplined and collaborative individuals, the program emphasizes active, dialogue-oriented, and deep learning through collaborative activities and inquiry-based learning. This new memorandum will expand the pilot introduction of recorder music education to 100 general public elementary schools in Egypt.
At the "TICAD Business Expo & Conference," a thematic event of TICAD9 held from August 20th to 22nd, Yamaha also presented its "School Project" and the "Sound Forest" initiative for building forest ecosystems in Tanzania.
About the "School Project"
This initiative contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 10 (Reduced Inequalities), Goal 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). It aims to foster children's "non-cognitive skills" through music education and to develop sustainable business models for music education dissemination tailored to local educational needs.
