Bumper Removal
- Open the rear boot and remove boot interior trim. Remove the inner light cluster trim on the outside of the boot shut area to reveal two light cluster fixings. Remove the two fixings along with one inside the boot to remove each light cluster. This will reveal one bumper fixing either side to remove.
- Remove nine fixings along the bumper lower edge and four from each wheel arch. Carefully remove the bumper from the vehicle body starting at the tips, carefully releasing each clip, then pull rearward.
- Remove the plastic trim fitted to the rear impact beam; this will be refitted later using its original fixings.
- Remove the exhaust bracket from the rear impact beam; support the exhaust to prevent damage.
- Remove the rear impact beam but retain fixings. (This is not refitted with the Towbar assembly).
- Cut the under tray to the pre-marked area. Some models may allow you to snap the pre-cut part to remove.
Diagram shows a rear view of a car bumper with a cut-out area indicated for the towbar. It details where to remove pre-marked panels if applicable.
Towbar Installation
- Using the original fixings X and Items N, fit Item A (Crossmember) to the rear panel.
- Using Items G with Items L, attach Items B1 (Left Hand Exhaust Bracket) and B2 (Right Hand Exhaust Bracket) to Item A. Rehang the exhaust bracket to Items B1 and B2 using Items G with Items L. (Some models may require the exhaust rubbers inverting before fitment).
- Using Items F with Items K, attach Items C1 (3 & 4 Series Inner Bumper Support Bracket) or C2 (5, 6 & 7 Series Inner Bumper Support Bracket) depending on the model, to Item A on the correct setting.
- Fully tighten all fixings, ensuring the Towbar is rigid, square, and secure.
- Using the original fixings, fit the inner plastic bumper support to the support brackets.
- Refit the rear bumper.
- Fix Item D (Swan Neck) and Item E to Item A using Items J with Items M and Items H.
- Fully tighten all remaining fixings.
Diagram Overview: The main diagram illustrates the complete towbar assembly. It shows the main crossmember (A) connecting to the vehicle chassis. Exhaust brackets (B1, B2) are shown attaching to the crossmember. Inner bumper support brackets (C1 for 3 & 4 Series, C2 for 5, 6 & 7 Series) are depicted connecting to the crossmember and the vehicle's inner structure. Various hardware items (F, G, H, J, K, L, M, N, X) are shown with their corresponding parts.
Specific Connections:
- Fig 1: Shows the attachment of exhaust brackets (B1, B2) to the main crossmember (A) using bolts (G) and washers (L). The exhaust bracket is re-hung onto these supports.
- Fig 2: Illustrates the installation of the 3 & 4 Series Inner Bumper Support Bracket (C1) to the crossmember (A) using bolts (F) and washers (K).
- Fig 3: Depicts the installation of the 5, 6 & 7 Series Inner Bumper Support Bracket (C2) to the crossmember (A) using bolts (F) and washers (K).
Parts Identification: The diagram also shows separate views of Part C1 (3 & 4 Series) and Part C2 (5 & 6 Series / 7 Series) for clarity. The swan neck tow ball (D) and its mounting bracket (E) are shown being attached to the crossmember (A) with hardware (J, M, H).
