Important Safety Instructions

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be taken, including the following:

Polarized Plug: This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug is intended to fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician to install the proper outlet. DO NOT attempt to modify this plug or defeat this safety feature in any way.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Fan Cleaning

Fan Blade Cleaning

  1. To access the fan blade, remove the front grill.
  2. Clean the fan blade, front and rear grills with a soft cloth moistened with a mild soap solution.
  3. Securely fasten the front grill to the rear grill by closing the clips over the perimeter.

Fan Head, Base and Pole Cleaning

Using a soft, moist cloth (with or without a mild soap solution), carefully clean the fan base, pole, and head. Use CAUTION around the housing area. Do not allow the motor or other electrical components to be exposed to water.

Fan Storage

This fan can be stored either partially disassembled or assembled.

Note: This fan can also be used during the cold winter season to circulate warm air throughout your home.

Parts and Assembly

Assembly Instructions

Note: Make sure you remove all contents from the package. Please check packaging materials for parts that could be required to operate this fan.

Tools required: Phillips head screw driver (not included)

Estimated assembly time: 5-10 minutes

  1. Remove the L-shaped Locking Screw (U) and Washer (T) from the Outer Pole (Q). Place Outer Pole (Q) over the base. Insert the threaded end of the L-shaped locking screw (U) into the hole of the Washer (T) and through the base. Turn the L-shaped locking screw (U) clockwise to securely attach the pole to the base.
  2. Loosen the Fan Post Screw (N) and slide the Motor Housing (L) over the top of the Extension Pole (O). Tighten the Fan Post Screw (N).
  3. Line up the 2 holes of the Rear Grill (H) with the posts on the Motor Housing (L) assembly. When properly aligned, the handle (I) of the rear grill should be in the 12 o'clock position.
  4. Secure the Rear Grill (H) to the Motor Housing (L) with the Rear Grill Mounting Nut (G). Turn clockwise to tighten.
  5. Slide the Fan Blade (F) over the Motor Shaft (J).
  6. Secure the fan blade to the motor shaft with the Blade Cap (E). Turn counter-clockwise to tighten.
  7. Open the expandable Grill Clips (D) located around the perimeter of the Front Grill (B) (Use Phillips head screw driver).
  8. Remove the nut from the Grill Locking Screw (C) and align the hole located at the bottom of the Rear Grill (H) with the hole at the bottom of the Front Grill (B).
  9. Close all the Grill Clips (D) around the perimeter of the grill.
  10. Insert the screw into the hole at the bottom of the grill. Secure in place by tightening the nut over the back of the screw. (Use Phillips head screw driver).

Do not operate the fan until fully assembled with all parts properly in place.

This product is intended for household use only and not for commercial or industrial applications.

Parts List (Refer to Figure 1)

Figure 1 illustrates the assembly process of the Holmes 18 Inch Stand Fan. It shows various components labeled A through U, which are assembled to form the fan. The diagram depicts the base, poles, motor housing, fan blade, grills, and fasteners. Key steps involve attaching the outer pole to the base, mounting the motor housing onto the extension pole, securing the rear grill to the motor housing, attaching the fan blade to the motor shaft, and finally securing the front grill to the rear grill.

Features and Operations

Operating Instructions

  1. Set the fan base on a dry, level, stable surface.
  2. Plug the cord into any standard 120-volt AC outlet.
  3. The speed is adjusted by pressing the speed control buttons to the desired setting:
    • OFF
    • 1 - Low
    • 2 - Medium
    • 3 - High
  4. To start oscillation, press the Oscillation Knob (K) down. To stop oscillation, pull the Oscillation Knob (K) up.

Tilt Adjustment

Gently move the fan head up or down manually to the desired angle. An audible click will confirm each angle adjustment.

Height Adjustment

  1. Turn the Height Adjustment Collar (P) counterclockwise to loosen the pole.
  2. Adjust the Extension Pole (O) to the desired height and firmly tighten the height adjustment collar in a clockwise direction.

User Servicing Instructions

Replaceable Fuse

If the (2.5 Amp, 125 Volt) replaceable fuse blows, please visit our website at www.getholmesfans.com for information on how to order a new fuse. Follow the below instructions to replace the fuse on the plug.

  1. Unplug the fan. Grasp the plug and remove it from the receptacle or other outlet device. Note: Do not unplug by pulling on the cord.
  2. Open the fuse cover, located on the top of the plug, by using your thumb or a flathead screwdriver to slide the cover towards the prongs. Note: Ensure the fuse cover is completely open before attempting to remove the fuse.
  3. Remove the fuse carefully by using a small screwdriver to pry it from the compartment at the metal ends of the fuse. (See Figure 2)
  4. Place the plug on a solid, flat surface. Insert a new 2.5 Amp, 125 Volt fuse into the fuse compartment. Use a small screwdriver to secure the metal ends of the fuse into the compartment.
  5. Slide the fuse cover closed completely. Note: If the fuse cover is difficult to close, make sure the fuse is completely secured in place by pressing on the metal ends of the fuse.

CAUTION: Risk of fire. Replace fuse only with a 2.5 Amp, 125 Volt fuse.

CAUTION: Risk of fire. Do not replace the attachment plug. It contains a safety device (fuse) that should not be removed. Discard the product if the attachment plug is damaged.
