NUX Huminator Noise Gate NRN-1
Owner's Manual
Introduction
Thank you for choosing the NUX Reissue Series NRN-1 Huminator Noise Gate Pedal. This pedal features dynamic LED indicators that show the noise reduction level in real-time. It offers two selectable modes: MUTE mode for instant silence during pauses and REDUCTION mode for a smooth signal decay while maintaining natural sustain. The dedicated SEND/RETURN loop isolates noisy pedals, protecting your guitar's fundamental tone and achieving transparent noise reduction. With its improved internal 18V power supply, the Huminator provides more headroom, even when used with high-output pickups.
Overview
- Suppresses unwanted noise and perfects your sound.
- The internal circuitry converts the power supply to 18V, providing greater headroom and wider usability.
- Two modes: Reduction Mode and Mute Mode.
- Dynamic LED display.
- Built-in effects loop.
- 100% analog circuitry.

Important Safety Information
General Warning: Read instructions before connecting.
Warning: To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not expose the unit to rain or moisture.
Caution: To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not remove screws. No user-serviceable parts inside. Refer servicing to qualified customer service.
- The lightning symbol in a triangle indicates "Electrical Caution!" It provides information about operating voltage and the potential risk of electric shock.
- The exclamation mark in a triangle indicates "Caution!" Please read the information next to all warning notices.
- Do not place the unit near heat sources like radiators or heat-generating equipment.
- Prevent objects or liquids from entering the housing.
- All servicing should be done by qualified service personnel.
- Prolonged listening at high volumes can cause irreparable hearing damage. Always practice "safe listening."
- Follow all instructions and heed all warnings.
Product Interface
The Huminator features several controls and connections:
- 1. DC IN Jack: Use a standard 9V DC adapter with a negative tip to power this pedal. The optional NUX adapter ACD-006A is highly recommended. Using an incompatible adapter may lead to noise or malfunctions.
- 2. Threshold Knob: Adjust this knob to set the signal level at which noise reduction begins.
- 3. Decay Knob: Control how quickly the output signal decays when the input signal drops below the threshold. Turn clockwise for a more natural decay.
- 4. REDUCTION/MUTE Switch: Select the operating mode:
- Position Down: REDUCTION mode. The noise suppression effect is active.
- Position Up: MUTE mode. The output signal is muted when the effect is bypassed.
- 5. LED Indicator: Displays the real-time intensity of noise reduction. More LEDs illuminate as attenuation increases. An orange light indicates the signal is nearly muted, while a red light indicates the signal is fully muted.
- 6. ON/OFF Indicator: Shows whether the Huminator is ON or OFF.
- 7. INPUT Jack: Connect your guitar to this jack. Plugging in a cable activates the effect or bypasses it. Unplug the cable from the INPUT jack when not in use to conserve battery power.
- 8. OUTPUT Jack: Connect your amplifier to this jack.
- 9. SEND Jack: Connect the beginning of your effects loop here.
- 10. RETURN Jack: Connect the end of your effects loop here.
- 11. Footswitch: Tap the footswitch to turn the effect ON/OFF. In MUTE mode, it switches between Reduction and Mute. In REDUCTION mode, it switches between Normal and Reduction.
Connections
Normal Method: Connect the NRN-1 as the last pedal in your signal chain, after the noisy pedal.
Diagram Description: A signal chain is shown: Guitar -> Noisy Pedal -> NUX Huminator (NRN-1) -> Amplifier.
Advanced Method: Connect noisy pedals to the SEND/RETURN loop. The NRN-1 detects the guitar signal and activates the suppression circuit only as the signal decays, resulting in a more natural sound.
Diagram Description: A signal chain is shown: Guitar -> NUX Huminator (NRN-1) [with its SEND/RETURN jacks connected to other pedals] -> Amplifier. The NUX Huminator is labeled NRN-1, and other pedals are shown as 'Delay/Reverb-Pedal' and 'Noisy Pedal'.
Note: Do not connect Delay or Reverb effects between the Send and Return jacks. Connect them between the NRN-1 and the amplifier.
Battery Installation
A 9V battery is included in the product packaging. Replace the battery when:
- The control indicator light darkens or does not light up.
- The effect sound becomes weak or heavily distorted.
Connect the snap cable to the battery and insert the battery as shown in the diagram.
Notes:
- When replacing the battery, pay attention to the correct polarity.
- To extend battery life, unplug the cable from the INPUT jack when the pedal is not in use.
- If the product will not be used for an extended period and stored, remove the battery to prevent leakage and potential damage.
- Only use a compatible power adapter for operation (DC 9V).
