NETUM Barcode Scanner Quick Setup Guide

This guide provides quick setup instructions for NETUM W8-X and W6-X barcode scanners.

Important Note

This is a general manual applicable to models W8-X and W6-X. When using command barcodes, refer to the title for specific instructions.

How to Start

There are three kinds of connection modes available. Choose one of the following to get started:

1. Working via USB Cable

  1. Connect the scanner with your device via USB cable.
  2. USB HID-KWB mode is set by default.
  3. Set Keyboard language (refer to the 'Keyboard Language' section).
  4. Locate the cursor where you want the scanner to output codes, then begin scanning.

2. Working via 2.4GHz USB Receiver (By default)

  1. Scan the "RF 2.4GHz Transmission" barcode.
  2. Barcode: %#IFSNO$1 (*RF 2.4GHz Transmit)
  3. Plug the USB receiver into your device.
  4. Set Keyboard language (refer to the 'Keyboard Language' section).
  5. Locate the cursor where you want the scanner to output codes, then begin scanning.

3. Working via Bluetooth

  1. Scan the "Bluetooth Transmission" barcode.
  2. Barcode: %#IFSNO$4 (Bluetooth Transmission)
  3. Power on the scanner by triggering the button.
  4. Pair Bluetooth. Bluetooth HID mode (Basic Mode) is set by default. For BLE or SPP modes, contact customer support.
  5. Set Keyboard language (refer to the 'Keyboard Language' section).
  6. Open a file or software, locate the cursor where you want the scanner to output codes, then begin scanning.

Bluetooth Connection Modes

1. Basic Mode (HID) (Default)

Human Interface Device Profile. Scanning the barcode below will set the scanner to "Basic Mode".

Barcode: AT+MOBE=2 (Basic Mode)

How to pair Bluetooth under Basic Mode (HID)?

Android: Connect Android Device in Basic Mode (HID)

  1. Power on the scanner. The LED light will flash.
  2. Touch Home | Menu | Settings | Wireless & Networks | Bluetooth settings.
  3. Ensure the device has Bluetooth "On".
  4. In the list of found devices, select "Netum Bluetooth". Tap Pair.
  5. The scanner will make one long beep after Bluetooth pairing, and the LED light will turn solid blue (no blinking).

Apple: Connect Apple iOS Device (HID)

  1. Power on the scanner. The blue LED light will flash.
  2. Start a Bluetooth device search. iOS: Tap Settings | General | Bluetooth. Turn on. A Bluetooth device search will begin.
  3. In the device list, tap on “Netum Bluetooth”. Tap Pair.
  4. The scanner will make one beep once it's connected, and the LED light will turn solid blue (no blinking) and is ready to scan.

Windows: Connect Windows PC (HID)

  1. Power on the scanner. Ensure the scanner is discoverable (unpaired).
  2. Use your computer's Bluetooth Settings to connect to the scanner.
  3. Open Devices and Printers and select “Add a device”.
  4. In the device list, select “Netum Bluetooth”. Click Next.
  5. Follow the remaining screens to complete the wizard.
  6. The scanner will make one beep once it's connected, and the LED light will turn solid blue (no blinking) and is ready to scan.

Important Note: The scanner will power off automatically if a device is not connected within 1 minute.

USB Wired Connection Mode

USB HID-KBW

By default, the scanner is in HID mode as a Keyboard device. It works on a Plug and Play basis, and no driver is required.

Barcode: %#IFSO$2 (*USB HID-KBW)

USB COM (Virtual Serial Port)

If connecting the scanner to the Host via a USB connection, the USB COM Port Emulation feature allows the host to receive data as a serial port. A driver might be required for this feature.

Barcode: %#IFSO$3 (USB COM (Virtual Serial Port))

Barcode Programming

Netum barcode scanners are factory programmed for common terminal and communications settings. To change these settings, scan the appropriate barcodes in this guide. An asterisk (*) next to an option indicates the default setting.

Important Notes: Many command barcodes only work with a scanner in a particular Bluetooth or 2.4GHz mode, as indicated by the header row of each page in the original guide.

Keyboard Language

For example: If you use a French Keyboard, scan the barcode for “French Keyboard”. Locate the cursor where you want to output the data, then you can start to scan. The American Keyboard is set by default; if you use a US keyboard, you can ignore this setting.

Working Mode (Applies for 2.4GHz and Bluetooth Connection)

Normal Mode

Data will be uploaded after each scan in real time.

Barcode: *Normal Mode

Store Mode

All scanned data will be stored directly into the memory of the device.

Output Stored Data

All data entries in the buffer memory will be manually uploaded after reconnecting to the working station.

Output Total Entry

Gross quantity of the uploaded data entries will be summarized.

Clear Memory

All data in the buffer memory will be deleted.

Beep Settings

Beep Off

Disable the scanner from beeping to indicate successful scans.

Barcode: $BUZZ#0 (Beep OFF)

Beep On

Enable the scanner to beep to indicate successful scans.

Barcode: $BUZZ#1 (*Beep On)

Terminator

The scanner provides a shortcut for setting the terminating character suffix to CR or CRLF and enabling it by scanning the appropriate barcode below.

Idle Time

The scanner connected to a device will power off within 1 minute if idle/inactive. Scanning the command barcode below will change the default idle time.

Charge the battery

When the scanner makes 2 beeps or the battery volume is under 20%, plug the USB cable into the scanner and connect the other side to your device to charge it.

By scanning the barcode below, you can get the remaining battery volume.

Barcode: %BAT_VOL# (Get Battery Rough Volume)

Firmware Version

Scan the command barcode below to check the scanner's firmware version.

Barcode: $SW#VER

Note: Always provide the scanner's firmware version for reference when contacting the service team for help.

FAQ

Problem: Some barcodes cannot be read.

Solution:

  1. Dirty or unclear barcodes might not be read.
  2. The possible reason is that settings for some barcode types, not commonly used, are off by default. You need to activate a specific barcode type to get it to work. Contact Netum for help.

Question: Are there any barcodes for applying or removing suffix or prefix? And does the scanner support auto sense mode?

Solution: Yes, contact Netum customer service for help.

Question: How to solve the messy code problem encountered while using other foreign languages?

Solution: The default language is English. If you use other types of keyboards, refer to the "Keyboard language" section.

Problem: Barcodes can be read, but cannot be displayed.

Solution:

  1. Verify if your scanner is in store mode.
  2. Contact Netum to get the command barcode for configuring the baud rate.

Problem: Bluetooth cannot be paired.

Solution: Scan “AT+MOBE=2” and re-pair it again.

Problem: A W8-X 2D scanner cannot read Datamatrix GS1.

Solution: Contact Netum to get the command barcode to enable the scanner to output Datamatrix GS1.

Problem: A W6-X 1D scanner cannot read EAN/UPC with 2 or 5 supplements.

Solution: Contact Netum to get the command barcode to enable the scanner to decode the supplements.

Problem: When the scanner works on Mac computers via USB cable, why are the digits scrambled?

Solution: Get the command barcode for "MAC-KEY MULL OFF" from the service team to solve this problem.
