Installation Warnings and Tips
Installation Tips
- Always wear protective eyewear when using tools.
- Before starting, turn off all audio components and other electrical devices. Disconnect the negative (-) lead from your vehicle's battery.
- Carefully check clearances on both sides of the planned mounting surface. Ensure that screws or wires will not puncture brake lines, fuel lines, or wiring harnesses. Verify that wire routing will not interfere with the safe operation of your vehicle.
- Ensure all electrical connections are secure and properly insulated.
- When drilling or cutting holes, use a utility knife to remove any unwanted fabric or vinyl to prevent snagging on drill bits or saws.
- Do not mount the speaker where it may be exposed to moisture.
- If a fuse needs replacement, use only a fuse of the same type and current rating as the original.
Choosing a Mounting Location
Select a mounting location that does not obstruct cargo space, the fold-down rear seat, or the trunk lid. A corner of the trunk or cargo area is often the most suitable location. Securely fasten the enclosure to the mounting surface using the provided hardware.
Warning: Playing music at excessively loud volumes in a vehicle can cause permanent hearing damage and impair your ability to hear surrounding traffic. It is recommended to listen at lower volumes while driving. HARMAN International is not liable for hearing loss, bodily injury, or property damage resulting from the use or misuse of this product.
Specifications and Connections
Speaker Connections
The diagram shows the typical connection of the JBL GT-X1500THI subwoofer to a car audio system. A Head Unit is connected to an Amplifier (AMP) via RCA cables and a remote turn-on wire. The Amplifier then connects to the Subwoofer using speaker wires. The Amplifier requires a power connection from the vehicle's battery (+12V), a ground connection, and the remote turn-on signal.
