Water Resistance
Watch water resistance is classified by rating (I to V) according to their protection against water. Use the table below to determine the correct usage for your watch.
Rating | Marking | Splashes, Rain, Washing | Swimming, Snorkeling | Scuba Diving | Free Diving |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
I | No Water Resistance | No | No | No | No |
II | WATER RESISTANT | Yes | No | No | No |
III | 50 M WATER RESISTANT | Yes | Yes | No | No |
IV | 100 M WATER RESISTANT | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
V | 200 M WATER RESISTANT | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
V | 300 M WATER RESISTANT | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Notes:
- I: Watches are not water-resistant. Avoid all moisture.
- II WR (Water Resistant) means the model is waterproof according to ISO 2281. Brief contact with water will not cause problems.
- III With 5 Bar (50 meters) water resistance, the watch can withstand water pressure indicated by the value and can be used during showering and brief swimming.
- IV 10 Bar (100 meters) water resistance means the watch can be used during normal swimming and snorkeling.
- V 20 Bar (200 meters) water resistance means the watch can be used for scuba diving (except for depths requiring helium-oxygen mixture).
Care and Maintenance
- Do not attach the strap too tightly. Ensure a finger can pass between your wrist and the strap.
- To clean the watch and strap, use a dry soft cloth, or a soft cloth dampened with a water solution of mild neutral detergent. Never use volatile substances like gasoline, solvents, spray cleaners, etc.
- When not in use, store your watch in a dry place.
- Avoid exposing the watch to gasoline, cleaning solvents, spray aerosols, adhesives, paint, etc. Chemical reactions caused by these materials can damage gaskets, the case, and the watch's finish.
- Some models feature screen-printed designs on the strap. Clean these straps carefully to avoid damaging the designs.
- For watches with plastic straps: A white powdery substance may appear on the strap. This substance is harmless and can be easily removed by wiping with a cloth. Sweat or moisture on plastic straps, or storage in humid conditions, can cause damage, tearing, or cracking. To ensure a long life for plastic straps, wipe them clean of dirt and water with a soft cloth whenever possible.
- For watches with fluorescent cases and straps: Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause the fluorescent color to fade. Prolonged contact with moisture can also cause fading. Wipe off any moisture as soon as possible. Prolonged contact with other wet surfaces can cause discoloration. Ensure fluorescent surfaces are dry and avoid contact with other surfaces. Strong friction of fluorescent surfaces against other surfaces can transfer the fluorescent paint.

Precautions for Backlight Use
- Backlight is difficult to see in direct sunlight.
- Backlight automatically turns off when any alarm sounds.
- Frequent use of the backlight will drain the battery quickly.
- If wearing the watch on the inside of the wrist, the auto-light may activate frequently. Turn off auto-light in such situations to save battery.
- The backlight will not activate if the dial is tilted more than 15° from horizontal. Ensure your hand is parallel to the ground.
- The backlight turns off after a set time (3 or 5 sec.), even if the watch is held perpendicular to the ground.
- Static electricity or magnetic fields may interfere with auto-light function. If it doesn't activate, return the watch to a horizontal position, then tilt it towards you again. If this fails, lower your arm along your body and try again.
- A faint clicking sound may be heard when tilting the watch; this is a mechanical sound of the auto-light and does not indicate malfunction.
