Operating Manual

Introduction

This operating manual, along with the technical description, operation instruction, and technical certificate for the Ventilation Intake Unit (referred to as VPA), provides essential information for the proper and safe operation of the VPA. It includes details on mounting, rules, and warnings. Please read this manual carefully before commencing operation and adhere to the instructions provided.

Designation

The VPA is designed for supplying clean, heated outdoor air, free from flammable or explosive substances, chemically active fumes, dust, carbon black, etc. It is suitable for residential and public buildings such as individual houses, offices, hotels, and conference halls. The unit ensures the required air quality and is mounted in an enclosed, dry room with an ambient temperature range of +1°C to +40°C. The VPA connects to round air ducts and is a component part, not intended for independent operation.

Protection Rate

The motors used in the VPA are classified as IP 44, offering protection against solid bodies larger than or equal to 1.0 mm and water splashes. When installed in a pipeline, the VPA achieves IP 22 protection, guarding against vertically falling water drops when the casing is tilted up to 15°.

Design Letters Diagram

The design letters indicate specific features of the VPA unit. For example, 'VENTS VPA 150-6.0-3' signifies a ventilation inlet unit with a 150 mm connecting tube diameter and a 6.0 kW heater, operating on a 3-phase connection.

Basic Parameters and Dimensions

Refer to Table 1 for basic technical parameters and Table 2 and Figure 1 for overall and mounting dimensions. Note that VPA designs are continuously improved, so some models may slightly differ from those described in this manual.

Safety Requirements

During installation and operation, adhere to the requirements of this manual, electric installation rules, construction codes, and fire safety regulations. VPA is electrical equipment, so observe all safety rules related to its handling. Only authorized personnel trained in electrical installations up to 1000 V and familiar with this manual should perform servicing and mounting. Use VPA only for its intended purpose. Never remove covers while the unit is energized. Ensure proper grounding. In case of fire, use CO₂ or powder extinguishers. Water fillers are prohibited.

Before commissioning, verify:

Warning: If the sensor-thermal switch operates, de-energize the VPA, identify and eliminate the cause, then re-energize.

Design and Operation Principle

The VPA controls airflow rate, air temperature (preheating), and filters the air. It features a centrifugal-axial fan with a motor, a 3-speed fan switch, an EU4 filtration class air filter, and an electric heater for preheating. The electric heater has thermal protection against overheating, including a 50°C thermostat and a 90°C thermal switch. Emergency thermal switch shutoff circuits require manual reset. The standard set includes a remote control panel connected via a communication cable. Filter contamination is monitored by a pressure drop sensor, and filter replacement frequency can be set on the control panel. An LED indicator signals emergencies. A channel temperature sensor monitors air temperature. The unit is connected to standard circular air network channels.

Figure 2 illustrates the VPA's exterior view and internal components, including the fan (2), air filter (3), electric heater (4), remote control panel (5), communication cable (6), control unit (7), and pressure drop sensor (8).

Mounting

Mounting must be performed by qualified personnel. Ensure the arrow on the cover aligns with the airflow direction and sufficient space is available for maintenance. The VPA can be mounted on a flat surface or hung using a threaded rod, ensuring it is securely fastened. For mounting in round ducts, use a flexible fitting to prevent noise and oscillation transmission. The connected channel size must match the VPA's hole size. Maintain a distance of at least twice the channel connecting diameter from duct turns.

Figure 3 shows mounting examples.

Connecting to Electric Network

The VPA operates on 230 V / 50 Hz AC or 400 V / 50 Hz AC. Connection to the electric network must be performed by a qualified electrician using durable, insulated, and thermoresistant wires of appropriate cross-section. All wires must pass through insulators on the control unit box for electrical protection. Figures 4 and 5 show connection diagrams for single-phase and three-phase networks, respectively. Use a circuit-breaker with a contact gap of at least 3 mm for all poles. Refer to the manufacturer's label for rated electric parameters. Internal connection modifications are prohibited and void the warranty.

Table 3 provides guidance on cross-section area values for copper cables and circuit-breakers, considering wire heating, current, length, and location.

External Devices

The control panel, integrated with a room temperature sensor, should be installed in the operating zone, at least 1 meter away from heating devices, doors, and windows. It is mounted on the wall with supplied screws and connected to the unit via a 10-meter, four-core cable. The communication cable should not be laid alongside power wires, maintaining a minimum distance of 150 mm. Follow the steps outlined to connect the control panel, ensuring proper wire connections according to color code and terminal designations (X1:10, X1:11, X1:12, X1:13).

The channel temperature sensor is mounted at least 2 meters from the VPA output tube in an area with balanced airflow. It connects to the control unit via a 4-meter cable, using terminals X1:8 and X1:9 (polarity is indifferent).

Figure 9 illustrates the connection of external devices to terminal block X1.

Differential Pressure Sensor

The differential pressure sensor is pre-installed on the VPA. Ensure the rubber tube before the filter is connected to sensor output P1 and the tube after the filter to output P2. The default setting operates at a pressure drop of 200 kPa.

Control Unit

The control unit is available in versions for single-phase (230 V/50 Hz) and three-phase (400 V/50 Hz) electric networks. Connections are made using two terminal blocks (X1 and X2). The fan, heater, sensors, and other components are pre-connected by the manufacturer. Additional external device connections, such as for automatic fire extinguishing systems (normally closed dry contact) and humidity relays (hygrostat, normally open dry contact), are supported.

Figures 7 and 8 show the control unit for single-phase and three-phase networks, respectively. Table X1 and X2 detail terminal markings and external connections.

VPA Control

VPA control is managed via the remote control panel using a standard four-core cable for communication (RS-485 standard). The system offers three fan speed steps: minimum, normal, and intensified. The channel temperature sensor optimizes the operation of electric heating elements to maintain the desired channel temperature. The control panel's built-in temperature sensor allows users to set the desired room temperature based on fan capacity. An energy-saving program optimizes heater power for stable temperature maintenance. The system monitors VPA parameters and performs emergency shutdowns in case of dangerous situations like overheating, filter clogging, or communication line breaks.

Figure 10 details the control panel:

Switching-On and Switching-Off VPA

Turn the power switch to '1'. Press the 'Power' button to access the status selection menu. Select 'On' and press 'Enter' to start. The main operating window will display the setup. To switch off, press 'Power', select 'Off', and press 'Enter'. The unit enters a blowing mode for 2 minutes before shutting down. For complete disconnection, turn the power switch to '0'.

Programming the Modes from Control Panel

The main operating window displays room temperature, set temperature, fan speed, heater status, clock, and current operating mode. Users can adjust temperature and fan speed via the 'Temperature setup' and 'Fan speed' options in the main menu. The 'Service menu' provides access to functions like 'Clock and calendar', 'Filter replacement timer', and 'Day timer'.

Date and time setup is crucial for timer accuracy. The 'Filter replacement timer' allows setting a reminder for filter replacement. The 'Day timer' enables automatic switching-on and off at set times daily. The 'Week timer' allows programming VPA operation for specific days and times. Note that the 'Day timer' has priority over the 'Week timer'. The 'Seasonal mode' is not available for this VPA model.

The 'Unit status' can be set to On or Off using the 'Power' and 'Up/Down' buttons, followed by 'Enter'. When switching off, the unit enters a 'tubular electric heating elements blowing' mode for 2 minutes to dissipate residual heat.

Emergency Situation

In case of sensor-thermal switch operation, filter clogging, or communication line fault, the unit enters an emergency shutoff mode ('tubular electric heating elements blowing') for 2 minutes, followed by shutdown. The red LED will light up, and the control panel will display the cause of the failure.

Actions in case of emergency:

Storage and Transportation Rules

Store the VPA in its factory package in a well-ventilated, dry premise at temperatures between -5°C and +40°C. Avoid environments with fumes or impurities that could cause corrosion. Use lifting equipment during unloading and storage to prevent damage. Transportation should protect the unit from precipitation and mechanical damage. Loading and unloading should be done without impacts.

Manufacturer's Warranty

VENTS guarantees normal operation for two years from the on-sale date, provided transportation, storage, mounting, and operation rules are observed. The warranty period is calculated from the release date if the on-sale date is unavailable. Claims require a technically reasonable act specifying the failure characteristics. Unauthorized modification of the electric circuit voids the warranty. Warranty service and post-warranty repair are performed at the manufacturing factory, requiring the warranty card and operating manual.

Note: Claims are not accepted without the operating manual and a filled-in commissioning certificate.

Acceptance Certificate

This section provides a space for the acceptor's mark, seller's details, release date, and on-sell date, confirming the ventilation inlet unit complies with technical requirements and is ready for operation.

Commissioning Certificate

This section is for recording the specialist's name, date, and signature, confirming the ventilation inlet unit has been connected to the electric network according to the operating manual's requirements.
