Mimaki CG-AR Series Cutting Plotter Care and Maintenance
This document provides essential information for the care and maintenance of Mimaki CG-AR Series cutting plotters, including models CG-60AR, CG-100AR, and CG-130AR. Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your equipment.
Maintenance Precautions
This machine incorporates parts that require periodic replacement. It is recommended to consider a maintenance contract. Regular cleaning and replacement of consumable items are advised to prevent quality defects and accidents.
WARNING:
- Periodic cleaning is essential. Debris and dust can accumulate on electrical components, especially during extended use, posing risks of failure, electric shock, or fire due to current leakage.
- Avoid using air blowers for cleaning, as this can cause debris to enter electrical components, leading to failure, electric shock, or fire.
- Wipe surfaces with a soft cloth lightly dampened with a dilute detergent and thoroughly wrung out. A vacuum cleaner can also be used.
- Prevent liquids from entering the product to avoid risks of failure, electric shock, or fire.
CAUTION:
- For heavy soiling, use a soft cloth dampened with a dilute detergent and thoroughly wrung out.
- Do not use chemical products containing benzine, thinner, or abrasives, as these can damage or deform parts.
- Avoid chlorine-based detergents, as they can corrode the machine.

Maintenance Procedure
Cover (Exterior) Cleaning
CAUTION: Do not allow liquids to get inside the product. Otherwise, there is a risk of failure, electric shock, or fire.
For heavy soiling, wipe using a soft cloth soaked in dilute detergent and thoroughly wrung out.
Cleaning the Y-Bar Rail Surfaces
Important! Before use, gently wipe the four rail faces (A to D) with a dry cloth to remove any dirt or dust. Dirt on the rails can cause abnormal noise and affect cutting quality.
Rail Surfaces:
- A: Upper rail rear
- B: Upper rail side
- C: Lower rail side
- D: Lower rail rear
Cleaning the Grit Rollers
Over time, the grit rollers may become clogged with paper dust, causing sheets to slip. Visually check for debris and clean promptly. A brush (like a toothbrush) is recommended for cleaning. Use a small amount of alcohol if dirt is difficult to remove.
Cleaning the Pinch Rollers
Leaving debris on the pinch rollers can cause buildup and hardening. Wipe them clean with a dry cloth or a cloth moistened with alcohol.
When Not in Use for Extended Periods
If the product will not be used for one week or longer:
- Do not leave sheets loaded on the platen, as this can create irregularities or ripples in the sheet.
- Push the clamp lever to the rear to separate the pinch rollers from the grit rollers. Leaving the pinch rollers in the lowered position for extended periods may cause deformation, affecting sheet feeding.
Consumable Item Replacement
Contact your local dealer or Mimaki service office for replacement consumable items. More information is available at https://mimaki.com/supply/cutting.html.
Disposal Note: When disposing of the product, contact an industrial waste disposal operator or follow local laws and regulations.
Safety Note: Avoid storing this product in locations accessible to children.
Cutter Replacement
Replace cutters when blades are chipped or blunt.
Safety Warnings:
- Avoid touching the cutter blade to prevent injury.
- Do not shake or swing the cutter holder, as this may cause the blade to detach.
- When disposing of the product, contact an industrial waste disposal operator or follow local laws and regulations.
- Extend Cutter Blade: Rotate the adjusting knob to fully extend the cutter blade.
- Remove Cutter: Use tweezers to pull out the cutter.
- Insert New Cutter: Use tweezers to insert a new cutter into the cutter holder. Ensure the orientation is correct before fully inserting.
Note: If the blade is chipped and difficult to remove with tweezers, remove the black cover to facilitate replacement. Handle the blade with care to avoid injury or dropping.
Pinch Roller Replacement
Replace worn or dirty pinch rollers with new ones. The pinch roller replacement kit (SPC-0746) includes the following parts:
Part name | Quantity | Note |
---|---|---|
Pinch roller | 1 | |
Retaining screw | 2 | Not used during replacement. |
Curved E-ring | 1 | Not used during replacement. |
E-ring | 1 | Not used during replacement. |
O-ring | 2 | |
Washer | 2 | Not used during replacement. |
Recommended Replacement Guide:
- Replace pinch rollers monthly if used for approximately 12 hours per day.
- Replace pinch rollers every two weeks if used 24 hours per day.
- Prepare: Turn off the plotter's power and push the clamp lever back to raise the pinch rollers.
- Position Paper: Place paper beneath the pinch rollers to catch any dropped parts.
- Remove Pinch Roller: Remove the O-rings, pull out the P/R spindle horizontally, and detach the pinch roller. Ensure not to lose the O-rings. The spindle may be difficult to remove or reinsert.
- Install New Pinch Roller: Insert the P/R spindle into the new pinch roller and reattach the O-rings.
Pen Line Rubber Replacement
The pen line rubber provides the surface for pen plotting, cutting, and creasing. Replace it when it is excessively damaged, deformed, worn, lifting, or when cutting quality has deteriorated.
- Remove Old Rubber: Use tweezers to peel off the end of the pen line rubber. Wipe any remaining adhesive in the platen slot with alcohol.
- Apply Tape: Attach the provided double-sided tape into the platen slot.
- Peel Backing: Peel off the backing paper from the double-sided tape.
- Attach New Rubber: Attach the new pen line rubber onto the double-sided tape, ensuring it lies flat.
