Preparing for Measurement
30 Minutes Before Measurement
For optimal results, ensure you have rested quietly for at least 30 minutes before taking a measurement. Avoid eating, drinking alcohol, smoking, bathing, and strenuous exercise for this period.
5 Minutes Before Measurement
Sit in a relaxed posture, with your back and arms supported. Avoid talking or moving during this time.
Installing Batteries
Open the battery cover and insert 4 x 1.5V AA batteries, observing the correct polarity. Close the cover. The battery compartment is shown with batteries being inserted.
Setting Date and Time
Use the 'Year', 'Month', 'Day', 'Hour', and 'Minute' buttons to set the correct date and time. Use the 'Back/Forward' buttons (◀️/▶️) to navigate and adjust values. The sequence is Year > Month > Day > Hour > Minute.
Applying the Cuff
On the Left Arm
Place the cuff on your bare left arm. The tube side of the cuff should be positioned on the inside of your arm, 1-2 cm above the inside of your elbow. Wrap the cuff snugly so that it cannot slip around your arm. Ensure the air tube is on the inside of your arm.
The cuff is applied correctly when the tube is on the inner side, 1-2 cm above the elbow crease, and the cuff is wrapped securely. A [click sound] indicates proper connection.
On the Right Arm
If taking measurements on the right arm, refer to Instruction Manual 1, Section 2.3.
Sitting Correctly
Sit comfortably with your back and arm supported. Ensure your feet are flat on the floor, legs are uncrossed, and you remain still and silent during the measurement.
The posture shown is upright with back and arm supported, feet flat, and legs uncrossed.
Taking a Measurement
Once the cuff is applied and you are in the correct posture, press the [START/STOP] button. The measurement will be taken automatically and the results saved.
Position the arm cuff at the same level as your heart.
Checking Readings
The monitor displays various indicators:
- High Blood Pressure Indicator: Appears if 'SYS' (Systolic) is 135 mmHg or above, and/or 'DIA' (Diastolic) is 85 mmHg* or above.
- Irregular Heartbeat Indicator: Appears when an irregular rhythm** is detected during measurement. If this indicator appears repeatedly, OMRON recommends consulting your physician.
- Body Movement Indicator: Appears when your body moves during measurement. Remove the arm cuff, wait 2-3 minutes, and try again.
- Cuff Fit Indicator: Indicates cuff application. '4' means it is tight enough. If the indicator shows '4' with an arrow, apply the cuff MORE TIGHTLY.
*The high blood pressure definition is based on the 2018 ESH/ESC Guidelines.
**An irregular heart beat rhythm is defined as a rhythm that is 25% less or 25% more than the average rhythm detected during a measurement.
