Fortin THAR-VW1 Installation Guide
Addendum - Suggested Wiring Configuration for Volkswagen Golf-R (2015-2018 Push-to-Start)
Introduction
This document provides installation instructions and wiring configurations for the Fortin THAR-VW1 module, designed for Volkswagen Golf-R vehicles manufactured between 2015 and 2018, equipped with a Push-to-Start system. It details the module's integration with vehicle functions and outlines the necessary programming procedures.
Vehicle Compatibility: Volkswagen Golf-R, Push-to-Start (2015-2018)
Supported Vehicle Functions: The diagram illustrates vehicle functions supported by the module, including Immobilizer bypass (requires TB-VW, sold separately), T-Harness availability, Lock, Unlock, Arm, Disarm, Parking Lights, Tachometer, Heated Seats, Rear Defrost, Door Status, Trunk Status, Hood Status, Hand-Brake Status, Foot-Brake Status, and OEM Remote Monitoring. Support for these functions depends on vehicle equipment.
Module Compatibility and Firmware
Ensure the EVO-ALL module is manufactured after 2019, as indicated by the QR code label. The minimum required firmware version is 64.[06]. To update the firmware and configure options, use the Fortin FLASH LINK UPDATER or FLASH LINK MOBILE tool (sold separately).
Required Parts (Not Included)
- 1 Amp. Diodes: 1 for Automatic Transmission, 3 for Manual Transmission.
- TB-VW (Key Bypass Module): 1 unit.
Programming Tool: An R-LINK tool is required for key bypass programming (sold separately).
Wiring Diagrams
Automatic Transmission Wiring Connection
This section details the wiring connections for the EVO-ALL module for automatic transmission vehicles. It maps the module's pins (A1-A20) to specific vehicle functions such as ignition, door status, lock/unlock, trunk, hood, handbrake, footbrake, tachometer, and comfort group. Connections are made to the vehicle's harness, 12V battery, ground, and the TB-VW key bypass module. Specific CAN bus connections (CAN 1 LOW/HIGH, CAN 2 LOW/HIGH) and parking light connections are also illustrated. The diagram includes visual references for the TB-VW harness connectors, transponder connector, light switch connector, and the main 73-pin vehicle connector (under dash).
Key Connections (EVO-ALL Module):
- Inputs (IN): Hood Pin (RS8), Hand Brake (RS9), Aux 1 (RS10), Tachometer (RS12), Foot Brake (RS13), Trunk (RS15), Door (RS16), Lock (RS18), Unlock (RS17).
- Outputs (OUT): Ground While Running (RS14), Starter (+) (RS7), Ignition (+) (RS6), Starter (-) (RS8).
- CAN Bus: CAN 1 LOW (C4), CAN 1 HIGH (C3), CAN 2 LOW (C2), CAN 2 HIGH (C1).
- Other: Ignition (A1), Lock (A2), Unlock (A3), Door Status (A4), Trunk Status (A5), Comfort Group (A6), Ground While Running (A7), Start (A9), Foot Brake (A11), Tachometer (A12), Hand Brake (A14), Start/Stop (A15), Ignition Output (A16).
Physical Connectors Referenced: TB-VW harness, Transponder connector (Black 2-Pin), Light switch connector, 73-pin vehicle connector (Brown cover, under dash), OBD-II connector.
Manual Transmission Wiring Connection
This diagram outlines the wiring for manual transmission vehicles. It shares many connections with the automatic transmission diagram but may feature different pin assignments or specific connector usage for manual setups. It details connections for the EVO-ALL module (A1-A20) to vehicle functions, 12V battery, ground, and the TB-VW module. Specific CAN bus and parking light connections are also shown. Note the instruction to use the connector supplied with the EVO-ALL for automatic transmissions only, implying a different approach for manual transmissions.
Key Connections (EVO-ALL Module for Manual Transmission): Similar pin assignments as automatic, with specific notes on D1-D6 and A15/D3 connections. It also shows connections for 1 Amp Diodes (3 required for manual transmission) and the TB-VW module.
Physical Connectors Referenced: Similar to automatic, including TB-VW harness, Transponder connector, Light switch connector, 73-pin vehicle connector, OBD-II connector.
Programming Procedures
DCryptor Programming Procedure
This procedure requires specific parts and tools:
- Required Parts (Not Included): FLASH LINK UPDATER, FLASH LINK MOBILE, FLASH LINK MANAGER software.
- Required Devices: Microsoft Windows Computer with Internet connection OR Android/iOS Smartphone with Internet connection.
Steps:
- Take the battery out of the remote control.
- Place the transponder's ring in front of the remote control.
- With the remote beside the antenna ring, proceed with programming on subsequent pages.
- Connect the R-LINK tool instead of the TB-VW.
- Warning: Close and open the driver door.
Key Bypass Programming Procedure (2/4, 3/4, 4/4)
Follow these steps carefully to program the key bypass module:
- Step 6: Press and hold the programming button. Connect the 4-Pin Data-link connector. The module's LEDs (Blue, Red, Yellow, Blue & Red) will illuminate alternately.
- Step 7: Release the programming button when the LED is BLUE. If the LED is not solid BLUE, disconnect the 4-Pin connector and restart from Step 1.
- Step 8: Insert the required remaining connectors.
- Step 9: Press the Push-to-Start button once to turn ON the ignition.
- Step 10: Press and release the programming button once (1x). The BLUE LED will turn off. Wait for the BLUE LED to flash rapidly.
- Step 11: Press and hold the programming button. The BLUE LED will turn OFF. Wait for the RED LED to turn ON. Release the programming button.
- Step 12: Wait (process may take up to 5 minutes). Do not touch the vehicle or module. The BLUE, RED, and YELLOW LEDs will rapidly alternate. The RED LED will turn ON, and the YELLOW LED will flash once.
- Step 13: Wait for the RED and YELLOW LEDs to slowly alternate. If the RED LED flashes slowly, programming has failed; return to Step 1.
- Step 14: Press the Push-to-Start button once to turn OFF the ignition.
- Step 15: Disconnect all connectors, including the Data-Link (4-pins) connector.
- Step 16: Use the FLASH LINK UPDATER or FLASH LINK MOBILE tool to visit the DCryptor menu.
- Step 17: After DCryptor programming is complete, reconnect the 4-Pin (Data-Link) connector and then all other connectors to the EVO-ALL module.
- Step 18: Take the remote control out of the transponder's ring.
- Step 19: Insert the battery into the remote control.
- Step 20: Connect the TB-VW module instead of the R-LINK.
Note on Interrupted Programming: If programming is interrupted, the vehicle may not start normally. Disconnect and reconnect the vehicle battery to correct the situation.
Remote Starter Functionality
To use the remote starter:
- Ensure all doors are closed.
- Initiate the remote start sequence using the vehicle's OEM remote or the remote-starter remote.
- Unlock the doors using either the OEM remote or the remote-starter remote.
- Enter the vehicle with the Intelligent SmartKey (key fob) present.
- The vehicle is now ready to be put into gear and driven.
