Introduction

Your new WORKPRO hedge/grass trimmer has been engineered and manufactured to WORKPRO's high standard for dependability, ease of operation, and operator safety. Properly cared for, it will give you years of rugged, trouble-free performance.

This tool offers many features for making its use more pleasant and enjoyable. Safety, performance, and dependability have been given top priority in its design, making it easy to maintain and operate.

Pay close attention to the safety rules, including Dangers, Warnings, and Cautions. If you use your tool properly and only for what it is intended, you will enjoy years of safe, reliable service.

The operation of any power tool can result in foreign objects being thrown into your eyes, which can result in severe eye damage. Before beginning tool operation, always wear safety goggles or safety glasses with side shields and a full face shield when needed. It is recommended to use a wide vision safety mask for use over eyeglasses or standard safety glasses with side shields. Always wear eye protection. ?️

Safety Information

General Safety Rules

Read all safety warnings and all instructions. Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury. Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.

Work Area Safety

• Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
• Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
• Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

Electrical Safety

• Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.
• Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
• Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
• Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
• When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.

Personal Safety

• Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.
• Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection ?️. Protective equipment such as dust mask ?, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection ? used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
• Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energising power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.
• Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
• Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
• Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves ? away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
• If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.

Power Tool Use and Care

• Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
• Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
• Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the battery pack from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
• Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
• Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool's operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
• Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
• Use the power tool, and accessories in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.
• This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
• Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.

Battery Tool Use and Care

• Ensure the switch is in the off position before inserting battery pack. Inserting the battery pack into power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.
• Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer. A charger that is suitable for one type of battery pack may create a risk of fire when used with another battery pack.
• Use power tools only with specifically designated battery packs. Use of any other battery packs may create a risk of injury and fire.
• When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects like paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws, or other small metal objects that can make a connection from one terminal to another. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause burns or a fire.
• Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If contact accidentally occurs, flush with water. If liquid contacts eyes, additionally seek medical help. Liquid ejected from the battery may cause irritation or burns.

Additional Safety Instructions

• Wear ear protectors ?. Exposure to noise can cause hearing loss. Loss of control can cause personal injury.
• If possible, always use clamps or a vice to hold your work piece.
• Always switch off before you put the tool down.
• Ensure that the lighting is adequate.
• Do not put pressure on the tool, such that it slows the motor down.
• Keep the area free of tripping hazards.
• Do not let anyone under 18 years to operate this tool.
• Only use accessories in good condition.
• Do not touch the blade after operation. It will be very hot. Keep your hands away from under the workpiece.
• Never use your hands to remove sawdust, chips or waste close by the blade.
• Rags, cloths, cord, string and the like should never be left around the work area.
• Support the work properly.
• If you are interrupted when operating the tool, complete the process and switch off before looking up.
• Periodically check that all nuts, bolts and other fixings are properly tightened.
• When using the tool, use safety equipment including safety glasses or shield ?️, ear defenders ?, and protective clothing including safety gloves ?. Wear a dust mask ? if the cutting or sanding operation creates dust.
• If in doubt, do not plug in the tool. Using a power source with a voltage less than the nameplate rating is harmful to the motor.

Additional Safety Instructions Related to the Battery Pack and Battery Safety

• Use only the WORKPRO batteries supplied with the WORKPRO Tool or WORKPRO-approved replacements.
• Do not use the battery to power any device other than the WORKPRO tool it was sold with.
• Charge the battery only with the WORKPRO charger supplied with the tool or WORKPRO-approved replacements and according to the instructions in the WORKPRO Instruction Manual.
• Do not charge the battery in a place where static electricity is generated nor let the battery touch something that is statically charged.
• The battery can be stored at temperatures between 40°F and 104°F.
• NEVER STORE OR LEAVE YOUR LITHIUM ION BATTERY IN TEMPERATURES OVER THAT RECOMMENDED OTHERWISE FIRE MAY OCCUR. The most suitable temperatures to charge the battery pack are between 68-77°F.
• Always allow the battery pack to cool down after charging, do not place it in a hot environment such as a metal shed or open trailer left in the sun.
• Take care where the tool is stored. Do not store in areas of corrosive fumes, or salt air or similar conditions. Try and store the tool in the packaging supplied with the tool.
• Do not dispose of the battery in a fire or put the battery into a microwave oven, conventional oven, dryer, or high-pressure container. Under these conditions, the battery may explode.
• Never attempt to open the battery pack, puncture the battery or subject the battery to strong physical shock.
• If the plastic housing of the battery pack breaks open or cracks, immediately discontinue its use and do not recharge it. Ensure the battery pack clip is in good condition and will not allow the pack to fall free from the tool. If the clip is damaged or for any reason is not locking the pack in place, Do Not continue to use.
• Stop using the battery if it exhibits abnormal heat, odour, colour, deformation, or is in an abnormal condition.
• If you detect leakage or a foul odour, it is especially important to keep the battery away from fire. If battery liquid leaks onto your skin or clothes, wash well with clean water immediately. If liquid leaking from the battery gets into your eyes, do not rub your eyes. Rinse your eyes well (for at least 10 minutes) with clean water, and consult a doctor immediately. Do not use a leaking battery.
• Handle batteries with care to avoid shorting the battery with conducting materials, such as nails, screws, metal watch bands, rings, bracelets, and keys. The battery may overheat and could burn you.
• After the battery has reached the end of its useful life, we recommend recycling the materials at your local municipal council recycling centre. DO NOT attempt to replace the battery cells in the battery pack, repair or modify any part of the battery pack assembly.
• When recycling, make it nonconductive by applying insulating tape to the terminals located on the battery.

Additional Safety Instructions for the Charger

• ⚠️ WARNING! Do not allow any liquid to come into contact with the charger. There is a danger of electric shock. Do not position the tool or battery charger near water; for example, near a sink, wash bowl or toilet.
• Do not spill liquid of any kind on the tool or charger. Doing so may short out parts, causing damage to the product and creating the risk of fire or electric shock.
• To reduce the risk of an electric shock, unplug the charger from the power supply before attempting to clean it. To clean tool or charger, wipe with a damp cloth. Use of any other cleaners is not recommended.
• Do not place any object on to, or allow anything to rest on the charger.
• Make sure that the charger cable is positioned where it will not be stepped on, tripped over or otherwise subjected to damage or stress. Keep the lead away from operating machinery.
• Do not pull on the lead of the charger to disconnect it from the mains power socket.
• Do not use an extension cord unless it is absolutely necessary. The use of an improper extension cord could cause the risk of fire, electric shock or electrocution.
• Never attempt to connect two chargers together.
• Do not charge batteries or use the tool and battery pack in locations where the temperature may be below 40°F or exceed 104°F such as alongside sheds or metal structures.
• The battery can be charged or operated at temperatures between 40°F and 104°F.
• NEVER CHARGE YOU LITHIUM ION BATTERY BELOW OR ABOVE TEMPERATURES RECOMMENDED OTHERWISE FIRE OR SERIOUS DAMAGE TO THE BATTERY PACK MAY OCCUR. The most suitable temperatures to charge the battery pack are between 68-77°F.
• If you wish to charge a second battery pack, unplug the charger from the mains supply and leave it for at least 15 minutes. After this time you can charge a second battery pack.

When to Charge the Battery

New batteries are shipped in a low charged condition and should be fully charged before Use. The battery pack can be recharged at any time during use, provided the pack is not overheated. If the battery pack starts to cut out due to low voltage, or previous tasks undertaken can no longer be performed, it is suggested to stop using the tool and recharge the battery. For storage, it is suggested to recharge the battery between 50% and 75% charge.

⚠️ WARNING! Some dust created by power sanding, sawing, grinding, drilling and other construction activities contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects of other reproductive harm. Some examples of these chemicals are: Lead from lead-based paints; Crystalline silica from bricks and cement and other masonry products; and Arsenic and chromium from chemically-treated lumber. Your risk from these exposures varies, depending on how often you do this type of work. To reduce your exposure to these chemicals: work in a well-ventilated area, and work with approved safety equipment, such as those dust masks that are specially designed to filter out microscopic particles. ?

Carefully remove the cordless grass shear + hedge trimmer and check to see that all of the above items are supplied. Inspect the product carefully to make sure no breakage or damage occurred during shipping. If you find damaged or missing parts, please contact us at the first time.

NOTE: Do not discard the shipping carton and packaging material until you are ready to use your new cordless grass shear + hedge trimmer. The packaging is made of recyclable materials. Properly dispose of these materials in accordance with local regulations. ♻️

IMPORTANT! The equipment and packaging material are not toys. Do not let children play with plastic bags, foils or small parts. These items can be swallowed and pose a suffocation risk!

Assembly

This unit comes completely assembled with the grass shear blade pre-installed. The grass shear + hedge trimmer is equipped with two interchangeable blades designed for do-it-yourself grooming projects around your garden.

CAUTION! Wear protective gloves ? before handling the blades.

The hedge trimmer blade is used to cut hedges and shrubs, while the grass shear blade is used to cut grass and hedges where finer detail is required.

Diagrams illustrate the process of fitting and changing blades:

Before Using

Charging Procedure

The battery charger supplied matches the lithium-ion battery installed in the tool. Do not use other battery chargers. The lithium-ion battery is protected against deep discharging. When the battery is empty, a protective circuit will automatically switch OFF the machine. The blade will no longer move and a slight whistling sound will be heard. Charge the battery for 3 to 5 hours then use it until it runs down (i.e. the tools starts to operate slowly). Recharge for 3 to 5 hours again before resuming operation.

Figure 9 shows the charger adaptor plugged into an AC power outlet and the charger plug connected to the tool's charging socket.

Figure 10 illustrates the LED indicators on the tool. LED 1 (red) indicates charging. LEDs 2 and 3 are not illuminated during charging. When fully charged, all three LEDs turn green.

⚠️ WARNING: Continued and excessive overuse of the ON/OFF trigger switch can permanently damage the lithium-ion battery.

CAUTION! This charger does not automatically turn off when the battery is fully charged. Please take care not to leave the grass shear + hedge trimmer plugged into the charger. Switch off or unplug the charger at the mains when charging is complete.

NOTE: The charge level indicator LED light will illuminate red when the charger is plugged in and is charging the grass shear + hedge trimmer. Three LED lights will turn green when the grass shear + hedge trimmer is fully charged.

The charging process starts as soon as the charger is plugged into both the proper electric outlet and the tool. During the charging procedure, the handle of the tool will feel slightly warm to the touch. This is normal.

When no further use is planned for an extended period of time, disconnect the battery charger from the outlet and the unit. Do not use the tool during the charging procedure.

Battery Charging

The length of service between each charging varies depending on the type of work you are doing. The battery in this grass shear + hedge trimmer has been designed to provide maximum trouble-free life. However, like all batteries, it will eventually wear out. To obtain the longest possible battery life, we suggest the following:

• Store and charge your grass shear + hedge trimmer in a cool area. Temperatures above or below normal room temperature will shorten battery life.
• Never store the grass shear + hedge trimmer with the battery in a discharged condition. Recharge the unit immediately after it is discharged.
• All batteries gradually lose their charge. The higher the temperature is, the faster they lose their charge. If you store your grass shear + hedge trimmer for long periods of time without using it, recharge the battery every 6 months. This will extend battery life.

NOTE: The grass shear + hedge trimmer has been shipped in a low charge condition and should be fully charged before use.

Operation

The product is intended for light-duty trimming of shrubs and lawn edges for residential properties.

NOTE: Charge the battery for 3 to 5 hours then use it until it runs down (i.e. the tool will only slowly operate). Recharge for 3 to 5 hours again before resuming operation.

⚠️ WARNING: The blades continue to move for a few seconds after the tool is switched OFF. Turn OFF the tool and wait until the blades come to a complete stop before adjusting or cleaning.

CAUTION! Never touch the blade rail while the tool is in operation and be aware of the sharp edges even when the grass shear + hedge trimmer is not in use. Do not touch the rotating blades.

To power ON, push and hold the safety lock-off button with your thumb, while depressing the ON/OFF trigger switch with your forefinger. Once the trigger switch engages, you can release the safety lock-off button and proceed with operation (Figure 11).

Figure 11 shows the safety lock-off button and the ON/OFF trigger switch on the handle of the trimmer. It indicates that the safety lock-off button must be held while depressing the ON/OFF trigger switch to power ON. Releasing the trigger switch powers OFF the tool.

The safety lock-off button reduces the risk of accidental starting.

To power OFF, simply release the ON/OFF trigger switch.

CAUTION! Do not force the blades through dense growth. If the blades slow down, then reduce your cutting pace. Should the blades jam, release the trigger immediately. Do not use your fingers to free up jammed blades. Jammed blades can release suddenly causing serious injury.

Cutting Tips

1. Shaping - A hedge should be trimmed to achieve a trapezoidal form; it should widen toward the bottom on both sides. Shaping a hedge in this manner improves the penetration of light to the lower extremities. A general guideline is to slant the hedge approximately 4 in. (10 cm) for each 39 in. (1 m) of hedge height.
2. Cutting Sequence – First cut both sides; start at the bottom and work towards the top. This prevents cuttings from falling into the area that you have yet to trim.
3. Trimming the Top – Where the branches have grown extremely long, cut back the hedge in several stages. The shorter cuttings obtained are best suited for composting.
4. Pruning Thick Branches – When older hedges are to be cut a substantial amount, use pruning shears or some other device to trim thicker branches (greater than 0.3 in. [8 mm] in diameter) to the desired length before starting work with the hedge trimmer. To shape precisely, run a taught line between the extreme edges of the hedge and then trim along the length of the line.

Ensure that the blade does not come into contact with any object made of hard material that could damage it, such as fencing wire or metallic plant supports.

Maintenance

ℹ️ Note: To ensure long and reliable service, carry out the following maintenance regularly.

• Check for obvious defects such as loose, dislodged or damaged blade, loose fixings and worn or damaged components.
• Check that covers and guards are undamaged and correctly fitted. Carry out necessary maintenance or repairs before using.
• If the machine should happen to fail despite the care taken in manufacturing and testing, repair should be carried out by our technical department.

Blade Maintenance

Always clean the cutting blades after operation and lubricate with oil. During longer cutting jobs, we recommend periodically lubricating the cutting blade. Visually check the condition of the cutting edges of the cutting blade. Ensure that the blade is covered with the blade guard supplied when not in use.

Cleaning/Storage

Clean the exterior of the machine thoroughly using a soft brush and cloth. Do not use water, solvents or polishes. Remove all debris, especially from the ventilation slots. Store the machine in a secure dry place out of reach of children. Do not place other objects on top of the machine.

Service

Damaged switches must be replaced by our after-sales service department. If the connecting cable (or mains plug) is damaged, it must be replaced by a particular connecting cable which is available from our service department. Replacement of the connecting cable must only be carried out by our service department (see last page) or by a qualified person (qualified electrician).

Storage

Ensure battery is removed before storage.

Battery should be stored between 40°F & 104°F; incorrect storage could result in battery damage.

Thoroughly clean the whole machine and its accessories.

Store it out of the reach of children, in a stable and secure position, in a cool and dry place, avoid too high and too low temperatures. Protect it from exposure to direct sunlight. Keep it in the dark, if possible. Don't keep it in plastic bags to avoid humidity build-up.

Environmental Protection and Disposal

This product has been marked with a symbol relating to removing electric and electronic waste. This means that this product shall not be discarded with household waste but that it shall be returned to a collection system. It will then be recycled or dismantled in order to reduce the impact on the environment. Electric and electronic equipment can be hazardous for the environment and for human health since they contain hazardous substances. ♻️

Disposal of an Exhausted Battery Pack

To preserve natural resources, please recycle or dispose of the battery pack properly. This battery pack contains Li-ion batteries. Consult your local waste authority for information regarding available recycling and/or disposal options. Discharge your battery pack by operating your tool, then remove the battery pack from the tool housing and cover the battery pack connections with heavy-duty adhesive tape to prevent short circuit and energy discharge. Do not attempt to open or remove any of the components.
