RF Exposure

Your device contains a transmitter and a receiver. When it is ON, it receives and transmits RF energy. When you communicate with your device, the system handling your communication controls the power level at which your device transmits.

Specific Absorption Rate (SAR)

Your mobile device is a radio transmitter and receiver. It is designed not to exceed the limits for exposure to radio waves recommended by international guidelines. These guidelines were developed by the independent scientific organization ICNIRP and include safety margins designed to assure the protection of all persons, regardless of age and health. The guidelines use a unit of measurement known as the Specific Absorption Rate, or SAR. The SAR limit for mobile devices is 2 W/kg. The highest SAR value for this device when tested was 1.201W/kg and complied with this limit.

Limiting exposure to radio frequency (RF) fields

For individuals concerned about limiting their exposure to RF fields, the World Health Organisation (WHO) provides the following advice:

Precautionary measures: Present scientific information does not indicate the need for any special precautions for the use of mobile devices. If individuals are concerned, they might choose to limit their own or their children's RF exposure by limiting the length of calls, or using 'hands-free' devices to keep mobile devices away from the head and body.

Tips:

• The items supplied with your device may vary depending on the software and accessories available in your region or offered by your service provider. You can obtain additional accessories from your local Vodafone dealer such as:
  • Docking station
  • Premium folio case
  • HDMI cable
• The 40-pin connector is a connector used for data transfer and charging.
• Your Smart Tab has an internal memory storage allocation of 16GB. If you wish to add additional storage, you can do this by purchasing a MicroSD Memory Card (up to 32GB) separately.

Using the touch screen

You can use finger gestures to control your device. The controls on your touch screen change dynamically depending on the tasks you are performing.

1. Tap the buttons, icons, or applications to select items or to open applications.
2. Tap and hold a certain item to get additional options.
3. To scroll through lists, move your finger up or down with a slide gesture. From Home Screen, you can also slide left/right to browse the extended Home Screen.
4. Tap and hold an icon on the Home Screen or in the Main Menu to move it or to drag it to delete.

Connecting to internet

The device has been preconfigured so that you can directly access the internet or use your email accounts using your mobile network. To setup a new WiFi connection, just open Wireless and networks tab from the Settings and follow the setup steps to add WiFi connectivity to the device.

Getting to Know Your Vodafone Smart Tab

Before Turning on Your Vodafone Smart Tab

First, install the SIM card, microSD memory card as described below. IMPORTANT! Power off your Smart Tab before installing or replacing SIM card.

Inserting the SIM card

Insert your SIM card into the SIM slot. There is a diagram showing the correct orientation of the card printed above the SIM slot.

Notes:

• Removing or inserting the SIM card while the device is switched on will lead to a reboot.

Inserting the memory card

Insert your memory card into the memory card slot. There is a diagram showing the correct orientation of the card printed above the memory card slot.

Notes:

• The [microSD logo] is a trademark of the SD Card Association.

Charging your Vodafone Smart Tab

Notes:

• The new battery is not fully charged. For the first time usage, you should charge the battery.
• The 40-pin connector is a connector used for data transfer and charging.

Your device has a built-in battery. To charge the battery, you have to:

1. Connect the PC data cable to USB adapter.
2. Connect the PC data cable to Smart Tab via the 40-pin connector.
3. Connect the USB adapter to a standard AC wall outlet.

Notes:

• The shape of USB power adapter may differ according to your different region.
• The PC data cable connects the USB power adapter with the USB connector on one end and the Smart Tab with the 40-pin connector on the other end.

4. Disconnect the charger when the battery is fully charged.

Notes:

• If the battery is low, there will be a pop-up message on the screen.
• Touch the status bar to check the battery status.
• If the device is powered on and the battery is charging, the [battery icon] will appear on the status bar. When charging is completed, the battery indicator appears on the status bar.

Connecting to PC computer

When you make use of the PC data cable directly with a PC computer, the PC data cable connects the PC computer with the USB connector on one end and the Smart Tab with the 40-pin connector on the other end.

Powering on/off your Smart Tab

1. Make sure that your SIM card is installed.
2. Press and hold Power Key to power on your Vodafone Smart Tab.
3. To power off your Vodafone Smart Tab, hold Power Key to get the options, and then press OK.

Notes:

• If the unlikely scenario occurs were your device is charged and does not power on by pressing the power button for 1-2 seconds, please keep the button depressed for a further 10 - 20 seconds to perform a device power reset. After this is done, pressing the power button again for 1-2 seconds should start the device as normal.

Switching Your Smart Tab to Sleep Mode

1. Sleep Mode suspends your device to a low-power-consumption state while the display is off to save battery power. Your device also goes into Sleep Mode automatically when you leave it idle after a certain period of time.
2. Press Power Key.

Waking Up Your Smart Tab from Sleep Mode

1. Press Power Key to activate your screen display.
2. Touch & hold the lock icon and when it turns into a circle, drag it to the edge of the larger circle that surrounds it. Or if you've secured the lock screen, enter a pattern, PIN, or password.

Introduction to the Home Screen

Beyond the screen width, the Home Screen extends to multiple panels and provides more space for adding items. Slide your finger to the left or right to get the extended Home Screen. From any panel, you can start an application by tapping on its icon or use the Apps Menu on the top right corner to enter the main menu.

Customizing the Home Screen

Tap icon on the top right corner to open Customize home screen with widgets, applications, wallpapers and more functions you want to have on your fingertip.

Removing a Home Screen item

1. Tap to return to Home Screen.
2. Tap and hold the item you want to delete until the [delete icon] appears on the screen.
3. Drag the item into [delete icon].

How to open the notifications and quick settings panel

From the Notifications and quick settings panel, on the bottom right corner, you can get the information of tablet status, app notification, and quick settings from the Notification Panel.

To see a specific notification, touch the icon. To open a panel, touch the digital clock.

Distraction

Driving

Full attention must be given to driving at all times in order to reduce the risk of an accident. Using a wireless device while driving (even with a hands free kit) causes distraction and can lead to an accident. You must comply with local laws and regulations restricting the use of wireless devices while driving.

Operating machinery

Full attention must be given to operating the machinery in order to reduce the risk of an accident.

Product Handling

You alone are responsible for how you use your device and any consequences of its use. You must always switch off your device wherever the use of such device is prohibited. Use of your device is subject to safety measures designed to protect users and their environment.

• Always treat your device and its accessories with care and keep it in a clean and dust-free place.
• Do not expose your device or its accessories to open flames or lit tobacco products.
• Do not expose your device or its accessories to liquid, moisture or high humidity.
• Do not drop, throw or try to bend your device or its accessories.
• Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or aerosols to clean the device or its accessories.
• Do not paint your device or its accessories.
• Do not attempt to disassemble your device or its accessories, only authorised personnel must do so.
• Charge your device within 0 degree Celsius and 50 degree Celsius, use your device within a temperature range between -10 and +60 degree Celsius. Do not expose your device or its accessory outside the range of minimum –10 till maximum +60.
• Please check local regulations for disposal of electronic products.

Small Children

Do not leave your device and its accessories within the reach of small children or allow them to play with it. They could hurt themselves or others, or could accidentally damage the device. Your device contains small parts with sharp edges that may cause an injury or which could become detached and create a choking hazard.

Demagnetisation

To avoid the risk of demagnetisation, do not allow electronic devices or magnetic media close to your device for a long time.

Electrostatic discharge (ESD)

Do not touch the SIM card's metal connectors.

Power supply

Do not connect your device to the power supply or switch it on until instructed to do so in the installation instructions.

Car Air Bags

Do not place the device in the area over an air bag or in the air bag deployment area. Store the device safely before driving your vehicle.

Seizures/Blackouts

This device is capable of producing bright flashing lights.

Repetitive Motion Injuries

To minimise the risk of RSI, when texting or playing games with your device:

• Do not grip the device too tightly.
• Press the icons and touch screen lightly.
• Use the special features which are designed to minimize the times of pressing the icons and touch screen buttons, such as Message Templates and Predictive Text.
• Take lots of breaks to stretch and relax.

Loud Noise

This device is capable of producing loud noises which may damage your hearing.

MP3 and video player function

When listening to pre-recorded music or watching videos on your device, with headphones or earphones at high volumes, you run the risk of permanent damage to your hearing. Even if you are used to listening to music at a high volume and it seems acceptable to you, you still risk damaging your hearing. Reduce the sound volume to a reasonable level and avoid using headphones for an excessive period of time to avoid hearing damage. Different headphones, earphones or ear buds may deliver a higher or lower volume, at the same volume setting on your device. Always start at a low volume setting. Do not listen to music or video with headphones while driving.

Device Heating

Your device may become warm during charging and during normal use.

Electrical Safety

Accessories

Use only Vodafone approved accessories. Do not connect with incompatible products or accessories. Take care not to touch or allow metal objects, such as coins or key rings, to contact or short-circuit the battery terminals.

Faulty and Damaged Products

Do not attempt to disassemble the device or its accessory. Only qualified personnel must service or repair the device or its accessory. If your device or its accessory has been submerged in water, punctured, or subjected to a severe fall, do not use it until you have taken it to be checked at an authorised service centre.

Battery Handling & Safety

Only use the charger supplied, or manufacturer approved replacements intended for use with your device. Using other chargers could be dangerous. The Smart Tab is using a non removable built-in battery, do not disassemble the device nor the battery. Improper battery use may result in a fire, explosion, or other hazard. If you believe the battery has been damaged, do not use it, take it to a service centre for testing.

Interference

Care must be taken when using the device in close proximity to personal medical devices, such as pacemakers and hearing aids.

Pacemakers

Pacemaker manufacturers recommend that a minimum separation of 15 cm be maintained between a mobile device and a pacemaker to avoid potential interference with the pacemaker.

Hearing Aids

People with hearing aids or other cochlear implants may experience interfering noises when using wireless devices or when one is nearby. The level of interference will depend on the type of hearing device and the distance from the interference source, increasing the separation between them may reduce the interference. You may also consult your hearing aid manufacturer to discuss alternatives.

Medical devices

Please consult your doctor and the device manufacturer to determine if operation of your device may interfere with the operation of your medical device.

Hospitals

Switch off your wireless device when requested to do so in hospitals, clinics or health care facilities. These requests are designed to prevent possible interference with sensitive medical equipment.

Aircraft

Switch off your wireless device whenever you are instructed to do so by airport or airline staff. Consult the airline staff about the use of wireless devices on board the aircraft, if your device offers a 'flight mode' this must be enabled prior to boarding an aircraft.

Explosive environments

Petrol stations and explosive atmospheres

In locations with potentially explosive atmospheres, obey all posted signs to turn off wireless devices such as your phone or other radio equipment. Areas with potentially explosive atmospheres include fuelling areas, below decks on boats, fuel or chemical transfer or storage facilities, areas where the air contains chemicals or particles, such as grain, dust, or metal powders.

Blasting Caps and Areas

Turn off your mobile phone or wireless device when in a blasting area or in areas posted turn off "two-way radios" or "electronic devices” to avoid interfering with blasting operations.
