Aeotec Smart Outlet User Guide

Introduction

The Aeotec Smart Outlet is designed to control plugged devices without an Aeotec Smart Home Hub. It is powered by Aeotec Wi-Fi technology.

To use the Aeotec Smart Outlet, the SmartThings app is required, available for iOS and Android mobile phones.

The Aeotec Smart Outlet is a compact, white electrical plug designed to fit into a standard wall socket. It features a single outlet port on the front. The side of the plug is clearly marked with a 'Power button' and an 'LED indicator' light.

Connect Aeotec Smart Outlet

There are 3 different methods to pair your Aeotec Smart Outlet. Each method provides a set of steps for connection.

1. Auto-detect pairing

  1. Open the SmartThings App.
  2. Plug the Aeotec Smart Outlet into the socket.
  3. When the plug is automatically recognized by SmartThings, tap 'add'.
  4. Log in with your SmartThings/Samsung account.
  5. Connect to the Wi-Fi of the Smart Outlet when prompted.
  6. Select your Wi-Fi SSID and enter your Wi-Fi password.
  7. Choose a Room for the device and touch OK.

2. SmartThings device catalog

  1. From the Home screen, tap the [+] icon and select 'Device'.
  2. Select 'Partner Devices', then 'Aeotec' -> 'Plugs' -> 'Aeotec Wi-Fi Smart Plug'.
  3. Follow the instructions in the SmartThings app.
  4. When the plug has been recognized, tap on it.
  5. Log in with your SmartThings/Samsung account.
  6. Connect to the Wi-Fi of the Smart Outlet when prompted.
  7. Select your Wi-Fi and enter your Wi-Fi password.
  8. Choose a Room for the device and touch OK.

3. Scan Nearby pairing

  1. From the Home screen, tap the [+] icon and select 'Device'.
  2. Press 'Add device'.
  3. Press 'Scan Nearby'.
  4. Select your Smart Outlet when it appears.
  5. Follow the further instructions in the App until your Smart Outlet is connected.
  6. Choose a Room for the device and tap OK.

Using Aeotec Smart Outlet

The Aeotec Smart Outlet is part of your Smart Home Hub network and appears as a Plug or Switch widget, displaying status and overall power consumption.

Device information can be fully viewed in the SmartThings app:

  1. Open SmartThings.
  2. Scroll down to your Aeotec Smart Outlet.
  3. Tap the Aeotec Smart Outlet widget.
  4. The screen will display:

LED Display

StatusDescription
ONBlue light is solid on, indicating the device is connected to Wi-Fi and the server, and the relay is in an ON state.
OFFBlue light is solid off, indicating the device is connected to Wi-Fi and the server, and the relay is in an OFF state.
Slowly BlinkingThe device is not connected and awaiting pairing/setup.
Quickly BlinkingThe device is attempting to connect to Wi-Fi and the SmartThings server, or the device is updating firmware.

Factory Reset Your Aeotec Smart Outlet

The Aeotec Smart Outlet can be factory reset at any time if issues arise or if you need to re-connect the device.

  1. Press and hold the Action Button for 5 seconds to manually factory reset the Aeotec Smart Outlet.
  2. After the reset, the Smart Outlet's LED should blink blue slowly.
  3. Unplug the Smart Outlet and plug it in again.
  4. Try connecting the Smart Outlet again. For optimal connection, consider placing it closer to your Wi-Fi Router before moving it to its final installation location.
